All those 9's are right..when you play only to lvl 15-20 then everyting to 7 at most. This is comming from a sw:tor player who in general could be considert a fan.
I do atleast 1-3 bugs reports a day sofar most bugs are in the actual skills, story mode becomes trailer mode after the first act (far to far to call it a story.. its more like a episode of some serie that comes out once every two weeks) quest aka gameplay aint someting specail..its go there kill 25 x and reteurn.
itsa GOOD game but to make a serious review you realy need to dig in deeper and play longer.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
The way the voice is clipping is Extremely annoying.... clean the Quality of the video and voice overs before making "official" MMORPG review....
Good god the scores don't mirror the commentary at all. @1:23 he says "Overall though the UI doesn't set the game back to much because aesthetics still receives a 9" after mentioneing all of the things the UI in the game doesn't have. Then he goes on to say that he thought the misssions were fun at first, but the missions are the same as you progress only on steroids and gives it another 9 because storytelling has never been so fun. Couldn't watch more after that because I couldn't listen to the drivel any longer.
Do the review and discuss the pros and cons. If you are going to give such high scores at least have more pros to speak of FFS.
RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and Paul Gray.

Already doing hard mode bosses in Eternity Vault and Karagga's Palace. I do group PVP, and group dailies. I do group hard mode instances to gear up my guild for raids just like any MMORPG.
Leveling in an MMO most people level up solo.
Your analysis is basically someone who does not know crap about SWTOR.
Gameplay and story are not the same thing. The gameplay is something i would expect from a 2004 wow not a 2011 swtor and should be scored accordingly. Other then that I would agree with everything else that was atleast stated or talked about.
yeah he needs a new mic or needs to fix the audio i cant watch it with those clicks i remember the same thingin the last video
anyone even tMMorpgs ratings seriuos anymore? just like the user ratings and the hype meter they are crap. You guys have been bribed so much its untrue. Your reviews on War, aoc, Aion rift are a bloody joke to say the least These are the peopel that were giving War, aoc etc etc favorable reviews hen everyone knows it was shite. Even weeks now after Star wars release on variuos guild forums, news sites and other forums players are saying how shite the game actually is, now thhave actualyl psent time with it. yet you muppets give it one of the highest ratings ever on the site must be Aprils fools joke or something.
The game is a flat 8/10. That's how I feel about it today.
No way the ui is a 9/10. Op is saying it's 1 pt away from perfect, with no scaling or ability to move it around? SWG had those features long time ago. Most mmos let you put a mark on the map if you want to find a place later. Guild Wars let you draw on the map so you could plan strategy, and GW was how many years ago? Also there is ability lag in WarZones, even when I turned it down to low. I would say 7/10 because it is functional but none of the other features I mention.
Polish 9.5? Again, your saying it's 0.5 from perfect, then I'm going to have to disagree. Several of my friends getting disconnects. The /getdown bug. Now a money dupe that is huge. Jedi big butt syndrome. I see big green bars over certain parts of the world in Tat...some kind of weird graphical glitch. No one key preview button. No sell back button. I've been stuck in the world 4 times and the unstuck button did not unstick me any of those times. Then the guild window doesn't display who is on correctly sometimes.
Graphics. I can't remember what number you gave it. I'm sure it was too high. There's no hi res textures. Characters are plain looking, and primative by todays graphical standards. Woefully lacking in female hairstyles that look decent. Hairstyles are horrible infact, and soooooooooo many games do it soooooooo much better. Not enough faces. Sorry, but I don't make asian or african american characters. So I'm left with a few faces to represent the entire caucasian race. Character creation sucks. No body sliders. You have anorexic, normal, hulk, and fatso. In this day and age with 100's of millions spent this is the best they could do? And no appearance tab yet, end game armors are god aweful ugly for most part.
There's probably lots I missed out on but I have to work.
I think you are so infused with blinding hate for a game you would of never played to begin with that you should just stop talking, right now. It's not SWG Get over it and move on. There are far more people enjoying SWTOR then who hate it. The ones who don't like it were never going to play it to begin with.

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths, Enwrought with golden and silver light, The blue and the dim and the dark cloths Of night and light and the half light, I would spread the cloths under your feet: But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
Maybe if people would score games honestly, instead of inflating them, people would not be complaining about reviews that give high scores to games that do not deserve it.
This game could have been awesome, could have been innovative and it could have been epic, but now the only thing i see that's epic in this game are things labeled as epic, which is something they got from WoW , i know that every mmo and game is just a reiteration of other mmos and games, but they really handled alot of things the way WoW did it, and while i am sure the fact that it's set in the star wars I.P. really makes the game different enough for most people, it just left a bad taste in my mouth, i want to play different games to get a break from the other games, so i am not going to go from WoW, to SWtoR , it just feals too much like WoW, but so did rift, i can not really put my finger on it , but there is something formulaic about what game makers think is going to make them money, its like there saysin"oh look at what WoW is making, in order to make that kind of money lets just copy what they are doing",and, for me that works in SMALL DOSES SWtoR seems to have just ripped large chunks out of the WoW play book, and by doing this they are getting a mediocre game instead of the "EPIC"beast they were looking for, hopefully when guild wars 2 and secret world online are released we will see enough actual innovative ideas to make these two titles playable,..well at least for me,and of ocurse this is all just my opinions, even though i feal very strongly about them.
I dont hate it, But i agree whit all "haters" that the review is not based on true numbers, hell im quite sure 99% of the players would not agree whit this review haha.
Its not a bad game at all. but c'mon a 9 for the UI? or rather aesthetics as he cleverly disguised it, while the UI aint ugly its far from being a beauty and far far away from being "usefull".
While story mode is great at the start, at act two it becomes a slow moving part of the game, and gameplay realy aint the same deal, story is part of gameplay in sw:tor but due to the lack of intresting quest or rather said Fun quest to do gameplay takes a severe hit.
Polish is ..fine.. not great, but fine, Skills are a bit bugged, specialy in combination whit other skills a few exsamples of my agent and counsilor .. backstab powers sometimes simply dont work, you get a error message that youre not behind the target..while ofc clearly you are.
using stealth and sleep dart quite often makes you go into combat mode ,meaning when the sleep dart wears of.. the npc even miles away runs in super super speed to you and pulls you out of stealth( well it just attacks while youre remaining in stealth), stealth being broken by a npc trashmob thas lvl 10 while you are lvl 30+ and use a "extra stealth skill" + spec for stealth (thus it should be even silver/gold mob resistant)
Pull powers (a skill to pull a npc to youre location, like trowing a lasso yipedi cowbow style) and the npc doing a flash gordon on you reteurning to its spot were you pulled it from in less then 0.1 sec, cant even blink so fast :P
A other nice stealth related one is "instances" were you sudently whitout reason pull a entire base of npcs to youre location whit a gurantee of instant death for you.. ..
also falling under pollish is crafting, what for the most part is compleetly useless untill lvl 50, there is no need to craft anyting at all at lower levels since veryting is provided by the game quest com's vendors. slicing was a exception to this but it got nerfed into a non-profit time and credit sink.
Then we have to consider all the things sw:tor does not have, from a working group up system, nearly nobody used the lfg tool due to the -fact- its a extreme basic design hidden out of reach and as every ui part compleetly useless, you can set youreself LFG..work..you can enter a message what you look for..work.. uch problem: nobody can freaking read what you wrote....very smart design here ..*insert big buzzer whit lauching sound*
For roleplayers like me the game lacks in every single department.. I fully expect the rp server to run empty fairly fast even for a big IP as SW.
again, -its a good game- but it defintly need some hard work to keep players intrested in it,far harder then the tons of down time 4-8 hours for a few silly "little"bugs.
but eh..thats just my experience and views, now im off to play a bit more to see if i can get myself to do a few more quest of killling x and y
As an accused fanboi I would have to say this is a very well done review and agree with the areas of improvement suggested. Well done.
You're reviewing the reveiwer?
ATTN: Reviews, and their scores, are based on opinions. Just like what you have.
Maybe if some people would realize that a good amount of the complaints are subjective and it is very certain that some things that people are complaing about just aren't issues some people.
And do you think it stands to reason that the people who are giving this game decent marks might be the people this game is made for?
Just like people who make bad remarks about EVE might get you to explain to them that EVE isn't for them do you think that this game might not be for you and those who have the same taste as you?

No I expect them to rate a game honestly based on the game. Some stuff is not up for opinion. There are bugs in SWTOR it is not polished as some would have us believe. Add to that the exploits, two that have been made public, a half-dozen more that have not(and will eventually surface) is enough to warrant an rating of 8 right form the get go. Add to that the missing features, the poorly implemented UI, and I can go on...and I am not going to. If this game is an 8.7 - Skyrim is a an 11 and I am sorry, but even Skyrim only is worthy of an 8 at most. So where does that put SWTOR? 5-or 6 at best. No more, no less.
To many of these gaming websites just stopped being critical of games and instead of putting these game developers butts to the fire, they coddle them, tell them their games are pretty much perfect - which is total BS.
I know, someone is going to say, well then Teala, go start your own website and review games. You know what - I just might do that. Because I am so sick of these so called objective reviews that do nothing but promote bad games.
If a game is worthy of a good score it should earn it. SWTOR does not deserve a score that says look at me I am almost perfect. If is so far from perfect it makes Rift look like a 10!
" but even Skyrim only is worthy of an 8 at most."
In your opinion. , Skyrim has currently like a 96% average. MMORPG ToR review is spot on, as it has a 86% average.
You seem to have a problem with this thing called opinions.
Skyrim is buggy, it was a poorly ported console game, and the UI is horrible for a PC. Game deserves no more than an 8 at most. Anyone that gives it more than an 8 is just over inflating it. Skyrim is a good game, one of the best I have ever played. But why inflate a score to something the game is not worthy of having if it has flaws.
Blinding hate? I said I would give it an 8/10. I am playing the game and enjoying at the moment, but unlike some I can make a critical comment about something I enjoy.
[mod edit]
Skyrim is also buggy on consoles. I think Bethseda bucks may explain a lot of its high scores. really it is a 7-8 game with major bugs in every version at launch and bugs still in the 2012.
I would agree bugs are always an issue but you are going to be hard pressed to show me a game that didn't have bugs. There are bugs but Ihave yet to come across a huge game breaking "I can't go on" bug.
Exploits are bad but guess what? I couldn't get on yesterday because they were patching one of the exploits.
I can't say what Bioware knows of exploits but I suspect they will take them seriously. Of course time will tell.
We've already talked about the uI. Though I would prefer it to be more cusomizable and scaleable, one can play the game just fine with it. You on the other hand think that's game breaking. Well, you very well might believe this but that doesn't really support your assertion that people aren't telling the truth or "being honest'. I think it points to people having different breaking points. you insisting that the UI is game breaking doesn't mean that others are going to think the same thing.
Skyrim's interface is far more atrocious.
I think the game in the short term is a solid 8, warts and all because it is exactly what they said it would be.
This doesn't mean it has legs to stand up to longer term play or that the type of game play that they created won't tire people but in the short term those that enjoy it will enjoy it.
Some game sites very well might be too lenient but that is easily off set but bitter jaded gamers who immerse themselves in criticism at every little thing.
I suspect the truth might be somewhere in the middle.
But i would be curious to see how you approached a game reviewing site. And if your assesments would truly be unbiased.

I just want to step in as ME and say: If we didn't have to put a number next to each review, because that's what is demanded of us by the very nature of games journalism, we'd not be having this discussion. Or at least not quite this discussion.
Maybe one day we won't need to score a review, but for now (and I do hate this), it's the world we live in.
Our reviews are based on more of a "Grade Scale" than anything else. I think SWTOR getting a B+ is pretty much on target, though even I disagree with a few of the scores for each category. Ultimately, it's Mike's opinion and one I stand by even if I disagree with parts of it.
