Guild Wars 2 Achievements & Closed Beta

SharpehSharpeh Member Posts: 111

What's up guys?

It's been a while since I last posted a message on here! I figured it was time to let you guys know I'm still alive and making YouTube videos!

The latest videos I made are about the achievements and the Closed Beta!

You can check them out right here:

Achievements: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1DREbUd3pI

Closed Beta: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPb3KTiQMlM

I'm also organising my videos in a Guild Wars 2 SHOW! http://www.youtube.com/show?p=xDfIqpYGZAY&s=1

Also, in a recent interview, Mike O'Brian said that the closed beta is going really well! To quote him: "The reactions so far from the testers in the Closed Beta is overwhelming!"

Maybe this means that the Open Beta or release is even closer than we think! I sure hope so!

What do you think this quote means?

Hope is nature's way of enabling us to survive so that we can discover nature itself.

I'd rather not get my hopes up till I get to actually play it.

I believe that blind optimism will only lead to disappointment and a quote that was run through google translator, doesn't men sh*t. So I won't be expecting a closed beta until ANet start releasing some concrete info on WvWvW and the guild system.

Why do people continually refuse to believe there is a closed beta when ANet has already said it's underway? In fact it started the Friday following the revealing of the Mesmer, which btw they knew was going to be the last class anyway. Take the devs' word for it and quit acting like ya'll know what the heck ya'll are talking about. Early stages of the beta often times need work done, so I'm sure W vs. W vs. W still needs some work done. Who knows, maybe it's finished and we just don't know yet. In fact from what I hear, Blizzard is still updating WoW. How many years has that game been "out of beta". In my opinion a good MMO is always a work in progress. I'm not talking only to you Master10k, there are many in these forums that don't take the time to do a little research before posting. I agree that blind optimism will only lead to disappointment. The key word in that is "blind". There have been hours of in game footage released that makes that statement a bit null. I'm not blindly optimistic, I'm completely optimistic based on what I've seen and continue to see. Is this game the greatest game of all time? I have no idea, but I can hope. Am I a blindly optimistic? I think not good sir, but I am optimistic none the less. I'm ready for an MMO that puts the feeling of comraderie back into it's game. I'm hopeful and optimistic that ANet will hit that mark.

For those of you interested in facts and not blowing smoke out your a** click the link. Those of you that want to speculate and voice opinions in the guise of fact, you need not click, for your bubble might be burst. Who knows what can happen to an opinionated bubble dweller when their bubble is burst? Oh I feel as if I'm about to break into Dr. Seuss mode. /sigh

    From the official webbpage:

When will there be a beta?

We began closed beta in December of 2011. The feedback from these tests will determine when we will do public beta tests and ship the game. Guild Wars 2 is a very large and ambitious game, and Guild Wars players rightfully have very high expectations. We want players to be absolutely blown away by the game the first time they experienc

Haha, that made me lol! +1 to you!

Just to clarify, the quote comes from an OFFICIAL interview. So there's no point in arguing whether it's legit or not.

    Sharpeh,

Got sidetracked from the main theme of the thread, my bad. :*( I don't own a youtube.com channel so I'll post my responses to your questions here. Good videos btw and grats on becoming a partner.

As far as achievements go, I'm not all that attracted to names above my head. Perhaps if they made achievements more visual  by adding an aura or something around your toon when you had an achievement/title selected, I'd be a bit more likely to care. I've never given them much thought, even in all my years spent raiding in WoW. Maybe even making certain skills available to go along with your achievements. Not anything that would be used in combat, but maybe an "emote" that had a voiceover, like a brag or something. An example would be the Explorer of Tyria title. You could click the "brag" that went with the title and your toon could say something like, " I ran over all of Tyria and all I got was this stupid T-Shirt." Just an example, don't hate. :)

In regards to open beta and when it'll start, I have no idea. I'd like to see it start soon, but I want ANet to take all the time they need to make this game as polished as possible. I'd say it starts in Q1 of next year. Guess we'll have to wait and see. :)

Unlikely, just a marketing thing. What else is he going to say really? "Well we started Closed Beta but man people are really not digging it, disappointment all around. We'll keep working though?"

That just doesn't have the same ring to it. And I'm still sketchy on a release date anytime soon. We have a closed beta that silently started with nobody ever seeing a signup page, no invite mails flying around and no accounts being sold. This likely means that they've done private invites, which would be a small group of people, loyal fans most likely as you don't just randomly e-mail people.

I want this game as much as the next guy but the more I read the more I'm beginning to doubt a 2012 release. All the videos I've seen look promising and it looks like the game is done already, but they're being so careful about releasing any beta or release information at all that something just isn't right.

That's a bold statement! Another year is a LONG time. Especially since all professions and races are finished, or close to it. In my opinion, they're going to release it somewhere in the first or second quarter of 2012.

While most MMO's take beta to mean "time to make the game" ANet is taking it with the correct term where the game is feature complete. Now it's more bug testing, balancing everything, and maybe adding more content.

That is exactly what I would do, and precisely why I have such high hopes for the game, not only cosue of the features but mainly because hte devs think like I do. In fact I would not release an open beta until I had most bugs already fixed internally. Betas are mostly exploited by the players anyway to get a glimpse of the game isntead of actually reporting. And GW2 is the most anticipated MMO ever, being up there on no.1 spot in ratings for years now, unchallenged, the haters would love to jump in and pick on any bugs claiming how the game is rubbish. ANet has no deadlines, they don't need that crap. They are trying to change the genre, and that is a collosal task, even giants like EA or Activision who own the pants of Bioware and Blizzard, are afraid of such groundbreaking moves. ANet is the only big company that does not make you feel like all they care about is money. Not only will they release GW2 as FTP, but they said  clearly they will work hard to release quality content that people will want to buy and in this way let the devs earn their due. Which is drastically different to pretty much every other company that charges you per month and delivers 0 content, leeching you like lazy, bloodsucking vampires. It changes a little recently with the FTP wave but even then these companies try to rather cash in on junk cash shop fluff instead of working hard on more quality expansions.

I hope that once the beta really arrives it will awe absolutely everyone. Or at least it will show the hard work put into it. Unlike that certain other recent big release...

I'm 100% sure that they're not going to have an open beta unless 99% of the game has been finished. They've always said that they want to 'waw' people the first time they play it. That's also why I believe that the open beta will not so much be about finding bugs, but rather about straining the servers to see how they handle a massive amount of players being online at once.

There are also some things that can't be fully tested in the closed beta imo.  WvWvW PvP for example. That's what the open beta is going to be for.

Trust me its coming out 2012 most likely Q1, Q2. Anet closed beta is really a Beta. Anet play tests GW2 everyday I'm sure most of the bugs are already gone. This isn't a Blizzard closed Beta where Closed Beta really means Alpha Testing!

Exactly when was the last time you saw a closed beta under NDA release gameplay footage or information about the closed beta? If they were willing to do that, there'd be little reason for the NDA, no? There's no other information to reveal, they've already discussed everything about the game short of minute details you're better off discovering for yourself, when you get to play. All the classes are revealed, crafting and PvP is detailed if you look for the information, they've gone into detail about the scope of the world and underwater, gave everyone information about how battles will work and gear will be gained...it's done. That's it. There's no information to hold back because there's very little left to give.

I'd say I'm confused at the conspiracy theories considering hush-hush Closed betas are common, but I'm not. I've given up on the MMO community having a lick of common sense anymore.
