From what little I can remember about my friend playing eq these are some things i THINK were taken out of or newly implemented by wow.
1. Typing in quest text - You had to type in the keyword when handing in a quest and sometimes you couldn't really figure out what the keyword is. There was no tick or box to ignore.
2. World Map - Not saying its new but it was newly implemented into such a large world
3. Dice Roll Combat - I know wow still has this underneath but it is much less prevalent because hitting 100% hit ratio is commonplace (I don't think hit ratios counted at lower levels either. When was the last time you remember having trouble hitting things in noob areas?)
4. Travel options - EQ was about walking. Walking or walking with a speed buff. Wow (introduced?) has mounts and other things like the Gryphon Bus and possibly the boat....surely EQ had boats.
5. Queueing for bosses - EQ had many bosses (Gods and Deities) that simply existed as part of the game world and could be killed for phat lootz. Im going to assume that queue jumping was frowned upon. This is only conjecture but I think WoW put these bosses into raids/instances to eliminate queues but still kept a few in the outside world. They have included a few new world bosses but nobody too interesting outside of quests.
I have heard stories of players giving each other running buffs or atttack speed buffs and just helping each other out in general.
I didn't actually see that much of EQ because my friend and I only got a month resub to have a look at the classic and only started lowbies. I played WoW for three years and had a blast with the game and the people playing it. I wanted swotor to be good but the gameplay videos didn't catch my attention.
Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?
-Fluid combat. Not the delay nonsense we got with abilities not firing.
-An actual decent character creator. Anything short of Aions is not acceptable.
-More class quests and less filler. 70% of the quests are shared by every class which makes leveling alts dull. Better than most games but still dull.
-A decent UI. Seriously, what we got is junk. Why can't i resize and move everything? Why is there no target of target? Why can't i have 3 skill bars on the bottom?
-Guild functionality. How about for starters, a list that works. Perks. Something to build towards. I still can't invite people to group from the guild list.
-A public quest system to encourage grouping and working together instead of against each other to complete tasks. Waiting for mobs to respawn instead of getting credit for helping someone out of party kill them is silly.
-Dye system
-Appearance tabs. Item modding is a good start but it needs to be expanded on.
-No daily's. Seriously, this is the best BW could come up with at 50? The entire concept needs to go.
If you cannot see what people are complaining about then i can't help you.
You would expect with a budget 15 times greater than WoW's that they could at least get some of these right.
Also it may be just me, but I have yet to see or hear any clips of outstanding voice acting. SWTOR may have tons of voice acting, but any emotion given by the actor is off set by the extremely poor animation, or just plain poor use(an example would be the absurdly silly battle cries)
I'm not quite sure what bothers me the most, the overused brow movements or the overused hand gestures.
Award for most lifeless animations goes to... this clip
Hopefully someone will learn a lesson in Quality over Quantity

You know I have to agree although if some SWTOR wishes to present evidence and correct me, I'll be happy to hear it.
I know some reasonably big names are involved in this game, but I didn't see anything of note grab me -- unlike Dragon Age Origins where every voice actor, famous and obscure captivated me and sucked me into Thedas. I mean I'm gay and Morrigan's voice acting (and character, too I suppose) made me reconsider for a fleeting moment lol.
In SWTOR I found BW has cut a LOT of corners - the aliens have the most annoying-sounding languages IMO, and I notice that they repeat MANY lines... very jarring! Quest givers and the player character also repeat a lot of the same lines... I imagine after a month of play that would start to get obnoxious if not sooner.
I'm not asking for an Oscar-worth performance, but for all the song and dance done regarding the VO, I didn't see anything exceptional in my short time in the game. As I said, I'll be happy to stand corrected should someone decide to present evidence to the contrary.
Honestly, I found the VO to be too draining and wearisome after prolonged play. It also broke my immersion - I have a strong imagination and I often enjoy creating my own character and story as opposed to the game telling me what he or she sounds like.

Were you in beta. I was for a while and I remember one patch that introduced this ability delay stuff... but when i started and up until that moment, it was likely the most fluid combat i had ever seen,,, i mean it was probably my top 1-3 things i would tell someone about TOR.
Something went wrong somehwere but I am sure they will get it right because it was great in beta ( for a time ).

Ehh, the VOs are a hit & miss, some of them are really great (Elora Dorne, Female Jedi Consular, Darth Baras, Mako, etc) and there are also some terribad VOs.
But VOs are the most important feature of SWTOR lol, tbh the best of SWTOR is that it feels like a single player bioware rpg, that's it, remove that and you have a wow clone with horrid graphics, avarage combat & useless crafting.

Did many of you that desided to buy the game actually do research about this game?
After looking into this game and searching for imformation about it i desided to buy it. It plays exactly how I thought it would from researching it. The game is not a sand box. The game is linear duh its story driven dialog, its much easier to make it linear than make it choose as you wish other wise conversaions will be messed up.
The game has BGs, little to no world PvP, raids. What did all of you really expect? Everything was laid out infront of you and Bioware hid nothing. I am personally having a blast playing the game for what it is. I really can not understand the complaints about it.
You knew it was a WoW clone with dialog + story driven quests. What did you expect?
Some people don't like it and that's fine but then there are the whiners who complain because in my opinion they've never played an MMORPG at release and are just plain ignorant fools. If you were at the AoC launch and remember that sizziling steak of train crash with the wonderful memory leak that forced you to relog? Was great in groups doing quests when your buddy on shouts on vent "I can't see anything" then the whole group gets wiped out! The general chat at AoC was a 24/7 spam of Chuck Norris jokes and a competition on who could be the most vulgar low life since nothing was censored. Broken quests with voice over disappearing when you left the started island ahh yes it was pretty nasty launch and shortly after the gold seller spam started 24/7.
Some of these whiners need to get a reality check in the world of MMORPGs, the game just launched to what is the smoothest launch ever in the genre. The game is solid with few bugs that have already been or are being addressed. New content has already made it in with new warzones and more coming, but in the end people like to complain because the wife/GF/mum complains to them and there only outlet is to vent at SWTOR here.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"
A more engaging experience? A game that really felt as if you were a character into the Star War universe? Stories that have a leg or at least an arm or even a hand, a finger maybe into the game? I expected Bioware to least try, Bioware was a great company for the rpg genre, i mean even if you keep in mind they are all totally sold on the Wow scheme (that must be quiet a complex for a dev to miss this easy shot , we all know the opportunity might not come this fast again)? A game that don't feel like an other cash cow mmo (OK this is too much asked, especially from EA)? Thats just the top of it.
And honestly the better question is, why did we even expected?
I mean Bioware is a game company that is so tight to his well know formula, you just couldn't expect anything else from it. The companion + vo/cut scene scheme is like a religion to them, they are doing that since the beginning and haven't step an inch away from it, not thats its bad i guess. They actually never ever tried to do anything else than a good old rpg filled with vo+ cut scenes. Did they ever had some good gameplay? It's really never have been their concern actually, they just try to make it as smooth as possible which isn't an easy task i'm sure. So i guess you are right somehow we shouldn't had expected anything else. The little problem comes from the fact Bioware did made a huge step with Swtor, since they try to go from solo rpg to the mmo scene. So still, you are wrong pretending we shouldn't have expected anything from this move. When a triathlon runner go from land to the water he have to wear off his cloth and put a swimming suit, thats what people expected them to do, and not go swimming with their cloth on

There is a difference between the actual people who invented and evolved different technology, and those who simply use it to run their business. Why should a person feel automatic gratitude towards a person/s who most likely did nothing to invent or evolve the technology?

lol, great link!
And so true! When I was young this was pretty much the meat and potatoes of the day.
I remember that I had what was a space invaders "rip off" type game with LED display and would play this thing only until my fingers were exhausted.
I would then get on rock'em sock'em robots and finish the job. forcing the mechanical arms to move
We've have so much and yet people are walking around with magnifying glasses trying to point out every seam, every screw, every blotch.
Perhaps we just need to take everything away and all have a time out and then after that time out we can play with this:
or better yet, this:
