Recently AV did a free/increased XP weekend that brought a lot of vets and new players back.
Unfortunately, the increased XP only lasted for that weekend.
I personally believe that keeping the 4x XP gain permanent until DF 2.0 would help bring a lot of old and new players to the game and help make the world feel more alive. Thoughts?

No, I wouldn't consider playing DF 1.0 or 2.0 until they implement a level cap on skills, without that it makes no sense.
(not the only condition btw, couple of other changes I'd want, which probably doesn't make me a good candidate for DF regardless)

Honestly uzik i dont think it will change a lot. Yeah it could draw back some players, but i doubt it will help attract new players. The reputation of DF is simply too "fucked up" by all the failures :-P
That what you are suggestion will be just short term improvment.

didn't like the graphics, so I won't play
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
I played on that weekend (EU). I explored the area from Niflheim to Flaming Skull and i just saw 3 players. If that weekend was successful i believe that they would extend the 4x xp gain period but they did not. 4x XP or Meditation mechanics are desperate moves imo.
DF is almost 2 years old and i believe that Aventurine had enough time to improve it and make a decent RPG out of it. Since it takes more than 2 years for Aventurine to realise that a game without a skill cap is not an RPG game they can play it without me.
No one is coming back until 2.0.
For how long?...depends on if AV has spent the last year+ gearing up 2.0 toward the things we been asking for instead of what they think we need.
As long as it applied to crafting also I would come back for it.
I loved Darkfall until they destroyed Aussies ping to it, with 4x xp I'd come back (even with crappy 300 ping) just to see how the game evolves.
Then again, this would be contingent on it attracting the critical mass of players to make it fun again.
Playing: Darkfall New Dawn (and planning to play Fallout 76)
Favourite games have included: UO, Lineage2, Darkfall, Lotro, Baldur's Gate, SSX, FF7 and yes the original Wizardry on an Apple IIe

rates change doesn't help
only change of developer would
I love the concept but the realization is Fuc.....ked up
Unfortunate that Darkfall has such a poor image.
I really believe that many people would find it more enjoyable if there wasn't as much of a grind.

DFO problems lie much deeper than xp rate.
Thing is due to many things this game is one big deatchmatch , and there are afaik almost no 'normal' players. Most are hardcore pvp's.
That's why this game failed.
Wrong. There are some hardcore PvP clans, but from my experience (and I still play), there are more "normal" players than the hardcore Pvp types. The "hardcore" ones are the majority that populate what we call ForumFall; in my current alliance, there are definitely some who PvP a lot, but the vast majority take PvP as it comes.
It's not the grind that ever bothered me. I don't think anything is a grind if you are having fun. It's that there is no cap on skills. That's ridiculous. I don't know how they could ever make a skill-based game, and allow you to max every skill. That makes no sense. Of course you could technically do this in Eve, however it would take you many years to do so. Didn't really care for the macroing either. I didn't really want to make any macros, but felt like I should be doing it. Also, AV is just too slow with development for me. It takes them too long to make changes to the game, much less make this supposed DF 2.0.
I like the game for the most part, just don't care much for the developers. I even own it, bought it for $9.99 on sale a while back. I'll check it out again if some actual major changes are made.
EDIT: I agree with the above poster that not everyone is a so-called hardcore pvper. I played for a bit, and I am by no means a hardcore pvper (I enjoy it ofc!). However, the game has this perception that most of the players are griefers or hardcore players, which does turn some people away.
Same here
Been thinking of going back so yes. Waiting for see what they are going to do with DF 2.0.
