TERA: Devs Speak of the Year that Was

TERA Senior Producer Brian Knox has written a letter to review all of the development milestones reached during 2011.

Knox details:


  • The Korean launch of TERA and the recognition of TERA as a global brand

  • The creation of a game that, while similar to the Korean version, is tailored for Western audiences. This includes security and game features that will be specific to the West.

  • The previews of TERA shown during all of the industry's major game conventions during 2011

  • Launcher, installer, forums, support tools, account management tools, security, key generation and more were worked on, generally behind the scenes.

  • Dev team begins work on the first 30, 60, 90 days post-launch even prior to TERA's launch

    In spring, that is all they have said so far. So if they are sticking to that, we should hear some details about betas soon :)

    This and Blade&Soul - why do they start hyping these games so early?  Is it because they're a lot closer to release in the east, and they don't realize how foolish it is to start hyping the game two years too soon?


    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

    ...how the heck do these guys have the gall to call it "Global" Brand when its not outside of Korea?

     

    It's about the same as me saying that my 1st name is Global because even though i'm currently on my country, eventually i'll travel to other countries and other ppl will be able to see me... pathetic

    How is this game out of date already when all we are getting are generic themeparks over and over? This game still looks better then anything comming out other then ArcheAge.

    I just don't understand how eastern countries can release a game and expect us to wait, yet our companies release games that are global? Am I missing something here? My bottom line is I think that it's not fair to us yet they expect the game to do well here in the west , I guess time will tell.

    Yes continue to hype up a game that nobody knows when the hell it's coming out because it's been coming soon for the past two years and will stop caring about when GW2 releases

    They let SWTOR come out before it. Their first mistake. Judging by how they continue to take their sweet time with an international release, Secret World & even GW2 will probably be released before it. It will do terribly before it's even out the door. They're waiting too long, and continue to miss out on prime release dates.

    Star wars is okay it will get better wow still king and diablO 3 will dominate Tera looks good but needs to come out already

    Western games do not release global. They release in the west first then later in the east just like eastern games release in the east first then in the west. Is Star Wars available global? 

     

    Peole keep talking about other games are comming whcih does not make any difference at all. Tera could launch today and if its a good game people are going to jump all over it even though Star Wars just launched.
