“In terms of expansion packs, what’s more important to us is the free updates. Our game updates, the free new content. It’s a subscription based service. Players are already paying $15 a month so they want to know we’re going to continue to provide them with game updates they don’t have to pay extra for. Obviously, expansion packs are something that we’re going to be doing in the future, but right now we’re focused on providing free game updates on a regular basis.”

Well that's expeected least that's what I thought, in a sense you still paying for it any way. If any expansion comes out say in 4 months add up the 15 dollars but in then end it's not a bad deal(Still the 15 dollars is not needed lmao) since like for WoW it'll cost even more so that's a good deal out of most MMOs IMO.

    Better than Aion's aswell.

I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.

I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.

P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)

Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.

Ummm what are you asking? He is clearly saying that right now they are focused on game updates rather than expansion packs, but at the end he says, "expansion packs are something that we're going to be doing in the future". That means eventually yes, there will be content released that will not be included in your sub. That's pretty standard for MMOs.

Heh, yeah. Content from sub price will likely be new instances, new minor gear, new emotes...

Anything substantial will likely come way of a full paid xpack. Standard business sense.

Did you simply choose to ignore the part where he said "Obviously expansion packs are something that we're going to be doing in the future"?

What isn't clear? He is saying they are focusing on game updates right now, but that expansion packs are something to expected in the future. Seems cut and dry.

    IT seems pretty clear.

For now they will update with content included in the sub and then they will have some purchasable expansion packs.

James says they will eventually hit, but that Bioware are currently prioritising free updates and patches, over paid content

He doesn't mention WoW that I saw, more likely he is doing two things, trying to make people not feel like an expansion is coming out next month, like some games have done in recent past (DCUO for instance) and also making it clear that they are not trying to adopt a F2P or Freemium model on top of the sub model. I'd bet expansions are coming 6-12 months from now.

The "updates" mentioned in the quoted text will be the normal fixes, tweaks and nerfs/buffs that occur during the life of any MMO. A few minor content patches may be thrown as PR stunts.

Major new features or content additions are usually reserved for xpacks, so that the developer can make some additional money.

However, depending on how well TOR retains subs, I believe EA/BW might just throw in a few more substantial "updates" in the first 6 months after launch, to make sure the game's profile doesn't drop off the media radar completely. There's bound to be some action on that front as the GW2 launch approaches :)
