What about solo part in RIFT?

NoanNoan Member Posts: 97

Hello there!

As the title says: is there any place for a casual player like me in this game?

Also there are few questions I'd love to see answered:

1. Is it possible to lvl up in this game from 1 to Max just by soloing?

2. What is the end-game of a casual player that doesn't have too much time for a hardcore stuff?

3. How does it feel? :)

I'd appreciate your answers a lot. Thanks!

    1. Yes it is incredibly easy to level from 1 to Max entirely solo and you probably won't have a choice in the matter, because most players have their multiple level 50s already and just stay in the Sanctum, Meridian or Ember Isle all day and queue queue. ^_^

    2. Endgame for the casual player involves the Chronicles (duo content full of nerfed raid bosses & elites), Instant Adventure (meh~), Warzones (PvP arenas with PUGs), 5-Man Expert Dungeons (however queing for Tier 1s can take an eternity because most people have done them) and you can possibly join a PUG 10-man on Weds or Thurs, if you're lucky. Well there's also the Zone wide events and the artifact collecting but it's really just more of the same, of your standard themepark fair.

    3. Meh it's OK but the game was more fun when there were more people. It's a good game for the price of the box, but unless you're a raider, or might want to get into some casual raiding (like joininh some PUG raids), then I cannot recommend this game.

Master10K is completely correct.  RIFT is a less cartoony WoW with very little endgame worth talking about - in fact, its got very little anything worth talking about.  Half the souls aren't worth playing alone or in party.  Half the content is directly lifted from WoW.   Rift fights are fun the first few times..after that their just getting in the way of your questing or whatever.  Another solo theme park soon to be FTP (or more likely PTW).

    1.  the game is focused almost entirely on soloing while leveling up.  There are occasional invasions where you will automatically be placed in a group with people if you choose to them and they are basically a zerg, just follow the crowd and whack/heal stuff.  More fun that that might sound, its a nice break from questing.  rift has the fewest group quests of any MMO that I have seen so youll be able to experience 95% of the content solo, and the instances you can hit at 50 anyway.

    2.  Basically the same as WoW.  Dailies, LFD instances,  With invasions on top.  Everything you do earns you experience towards minor boosts in power (planar attunement)

    3.  Try for yourself, its certainly worth the 20 bucks to try and see if you like it.  Its not for everyone but its extremely solo/casual friendly.  The people that say 'Rift is only for raiders' are full of it.

Rift inherits one major problem from EQ2 and WoW...  That is the bait and switch for soloists.  Although I will say that there is more there now than there was at release.  At release there was pretty much NOTHING to do solo once you hit max level(assuming you were doing your factions etc as you levelled up).

A lot of these games tend to be exceedingly solo friendly up through the level cap then they provide very little to do outside of a group or raid.

At any rate -- I would say sure -- go and buy it -- it is a quite a nice romp from level 1 to cap.  But do not expect a satisfying endgame solo -- just relish the journey and explore and build up your collections etc.  Live in the world and do the rifts etc. and shed a tear when you are done.

Lol, if you look up the term "Casual Gamer," in the dictionary, you'll get a picture of Rift.  This game is designed completely around the casual gamer, from the easy questing, to the ability to queue up for virtually anything without having to actually seek people out, to the forced grouping for those that don't want to actually meet people, but still want to do group content.

Doesn't get any more simplistic or lobbyish than this game.  If you're looking for casual, this game is all about casual.

    1. 1-50 yes you can very easily do it. Some people cry it is too much actually.

    2. Easily. They added rift raid gear vendors that reward you for helping in invasions. I have an entire off spec raid tank set all of it from doing invasions and hitting up that gear vendor in Sanctum. This was easily the best thing they added to the game because it has you going back to zones you leveled out of close to 7 months ago to help.

    3. First time through pretty damn epic, especially if you pay attention to the story quest which are in yellow. At max level you have to become somewhat social and get in a guild. I mean you pug raids and use LFG for instances, but this is not a single player rpg and you are enecourages to get in groups and find a guild they advertise all the time for new players.

    1. Yes, easy

    2. More than any mmorpg on the market have to offer , and about 10 times more for casual player.

Apart from 5 man instances, raiding ( plenty of laid back social guilds who raid couple hours a week and so on )  chronicles , invasions, rifts solo 2+, 5 + raid rifts ,saga quests, achievements if you into those, pvp what not

    ( in comparison any random mmorpg, = 5 mans + raids , thats all 99% offer )

    3. it feels like you been missing out once you ding lvl 50 and get first chronicle event showing you all endgame rift have to offer.. and realizing that unamed mmorpgs you played only offered 2 things after you ding max.. and just 1 after couple more weeks.. yes 5 mans = raiding = log for raid and logout

The problem with Instant Adventure is the "instant" part. Unless you're lucky, after teleporting you'll be alone in the middle of an endgame zone. If you play on a PvP server and you aren't a well-geared 50, it's pretty much "Instant Gank".

MMORPG genre is dead. Long live MMOCS (Massively Multiplayer Online Cash Shop).

I'm assuming that by making a statement like that you've done the IA on every server and with both factions?

Cause on my server I've only Q'd an IA once and ended up alone, but that was early in the morning on a weekday, and it lasted a whopping 2 minutes before a half dozen people ended up in the adventure with me.

And I play on a PvP server, and I've ended up in fights while doing them, I've also come across guardians while they were doing theirs.  You have as much a chance of "being ganked" in an "endgame zone", one of which is actually mostly people in thier 40's, doing dailies or just questing as you do doing IA.  If you have a problem with that, why are you even playing on a PvP server?

You can solo to 50 easily.

At 50 there is a lot of small group content that is very easy to get into for someone that is casual.

What it's like is totally up to what you like.  I find the dungeons and WF's to be fun.  The instant adventures are cool, but I like the dugneons and WF's more.  I enjoy doing the dailies, because I play on a PvP server and the other faction players will be dong dailies in the same place; plus I usually have a PvP daily to kill other faction players in one of the zones I do dailies in.  If I want tougher content I go to ember isle and do dailies or quests there, or start an invasion mini-event.

Don't take anyones word for anything.  Give the free trial a shot and decide for yourself.

Just what I wanted to hear. Thanks a lot for the opinions and thoughts.

I guess I'll be buying this game in a few days.

One thing bothers me. I heard you could talk to the opposite faction on a PvP server. Is that true?

I just wonder how it works.

I haven't played on a PVP server but I know the only you can talk in warfronts is by yelling. If you use the /yell command the opposite faction can see it but there is no direct talking to each other.

    High Five FTW!
