i know they are different in many aspects but i cant decide which one to buy, guild wars or world of warcraft. I dont want to spend $100 dollars and buy both so what do you guys think is worth the money (and/or monthly fee). i am a big fan of warcraft but the monthly fee (as all fees) kinda scares me off, but guild wars looks cool and has free online play but people say it gets boring. please help and let me know what you think, thanks!

Pffft another "VS" thread. {sighs}
GW and WoW are both quality games. And both are fun. For the shorttime. GW will get boring faster then WoW in all liklihood, but both games will get plenty boring in short time. Good games to have though when you want quick, fast paced mmo action as a break from a much deeper and more solid mmo (like EQ, UO, or AC for example)

GW is at best a MMO"lite".
Its a GREAT game - lots of fun. and has the BEST team PvP i've seen in a MMO.
WoW is a solid MMO - the best quests i've seen in a MMO. PvP is pretty bog standard (not so good).
depends what you want.
If you want a RPG style game, with lots of quests, storyline, player interaction, and a bit of PvP - get WoW.
if you want an action based game, awesome team PvP combat, a few so-so quests - get GW.

WoW rules!
This is the easiest possible question and i will lay this down to you in a list
GW gives you:
Free Monthly
Low Lvl Cap for easier game mastering
Different MMo Type
thats it
WoW gives you:
Diverse Races and Class system
Wide variety of talents and skills
Thousands of Weapons
Thousands of Quest
Tons of Boss Fights
Wider Community
with the exception of a monthl gaming fee its well worth it and if you do get into this game you just dont stop its very addicting and well worth it
P.S GW is not all it is hyped up to be even though its free monthly that means the company will lack in funds for updates and expansions therefor the game brings upong no future plus the game it self sucks no offense to GW Fans but it aint that good seen better 2D games
That's funny, I could have sworn there have been 10 updates since June 1st....
http://www.guildwars.com/news/gameupdates.html
The low level cap is not for 'easier game mastering', it is so that you can have balanced PvP. There is no 'level 60's ganking lvl 11's' in GW.
The other positives GW has are:
no kill stealing
no loot stealing
you are not forced to group
PvP
streaming updates
very quick to get into the action
better graphics (imo)

PvE in general is pretty lame, if you think long and hard about it. You are spending your time beating a severely gimped AI that would lose to a well trained monkey. Best not to think too long and hard why you are wasting time playing games in general actually...
While Guild wars is not without its charm.......
The fact is it is not a very immersive game. If you are looking for something to replace EQ or AO then this is not the game. I play it right now but to be honest only the PVP part is fun. The story and and the instanced questing ruin the experience for me.
WOW is alot deeper than Guild wars but the lack of character customization and the repetetive solo questing that is required to finally reach the endgame bogs it down. I enjoyed WOW when i played it but it often feels just as lonely as Guild wars since nobody groups until the end which is not the players fault. The game unfortunately is designed for solo play. They screwed up by not offering an xp bonus to people in a group so you actually lose xp for grouping.
It is impossible to be unique in either game unfortunately. Both games use cookie cutter classes with very little customization to differentiate you from any other player in your class. Also they have no selection of character models so everyone looks the same. Also everyone does the exact same quests for the same rewards resulting in everyone wearing the same gear.
Not very imaginative on either games part.
Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.
GW is better than wow.
We are?
That's amazing! And here it was I thought I was having a good time playing! Imagine that!
Consider this when looking at which one to buy. Do you want to play with other people in your MMORPG world?
GW -- instanced everywhere (EVERYWHERE) but in the cities. Or, rephrased, when you leave town, you will NOT SEE ANYONE ELSE that wasn't already with you in your group or yourself. No one. Sorta defeats the point of playing online with thousands of other players, but hey, to each their own. This is an action game first, more akin to something like FPS games, and an MMORPG second.
WoW -- the ultimate "everything-is-dumbed-down" game, made specifically that way so they could attract the widest possible net of players. And their design has achieved exactly that, the widest possible # of players. Kudos to them. Unfortunately, the concept of being able to play casually and reach max level in under two weeks, after only one month of playing around with the game, means that the game is SHORT and that it gets REPETITIVE and BORING very, very quickly.
Between the two, I'd say, do you want a quick shot of action (GW) or about a month's worth of "new" play (WoW) before realising what a dead-end the game is?
Ok, that's not keeping my own opinions minimized very well, but too bad. WoW is such a... (I hate using words like this) carebear game, where everything is handed to you, where everything is so dumbed-down that you don't have to think for yourself (can't figure out that you need to talk to folks to get what they know? Don't worry, here's WoW, we'll put a Big honking yellow question mark hanging in the air above their heads so you don't have to think for yourself at all!!).
Personally, if graphics AREN'T an issue, grab an older game, like AC or DAOC, and discover what fleshed-out worlds, with actual world events that alter the world (sorry, WoW, adding Santa, who doesn't even belong in the WoW lore, to Ironlag does not a "world event" make, no matter how hard you try to claim so), is like. It just depends on what you're after. Like I said above, if it's a quick shot of action with RPG-lite elements, and the ability to get right in and bash each other, play GW; if you want a little bit more wide-open world where other people are actually IN THE WORLD WITH YOU, but don't want to have to commit too much time or thought to it, play WoW.
That's funny, I could have sworn there have been 10 updates since June 1st....

those updates are fixes, they did not add new content.
there is no Real PvP like other mmorpg's. these are just arena fights.
no kill stealing (duh, its instanced)
no loot stealing (see above)
you are not forced to group (bullshit, you can't do anything else besides questing in the wild)
PvP (only arena fights)
streaming updates (i have to see the first)
very quick to get into the action (not as fast as WoW)
better graphics (imo) (your opinion maybe, but if you look closely, you see that WoW's graphics are way better)
World of Warcraft IS a better mmorpg then Guild Wars. but its normal since WoW requires monthly fee's.

i personaly don't understand whats so great about the PvP in guild Wars. sure it has a lot of pvp, but take a look at the Battlegrounds in WoW. i find Alcetrac Valley Battlegrounds better then any arena in GW. i also much more prefer PvP in the wild then arena's in GW. you never know when the enemy will strike, so you have to be aware all the time. you really miss that feeling in GW. i personaly think WoW requires a lot of skill to become good in PvP. more then in GW imo. the action is a lot faster in WoW.
You have got to be kidding me-- wow?? wide variety of talents and skills ROFLMAO. Thats a joke.
UO has a wide variety of skills and talents.
Shadowbane has a wide variety of skills and talents.
GUILD WARS has a wider variety of skills and talents compared to WoW.
WoW has on the average two possible builds for each class and not that many classes.
BUT I agree with the poster that said there arent any good games out.
another one of these eh, and the usual "well i dont like this game so everyone must hate it". also full of the usual myths about both games.
scientology
"Diverse Races and Class system
Wide variety of talents and skills"
Hahahahahahaha...right.
The diversity between races in WoW is minute at best. Oh man, my NE has 1% more to dodge something then your human! Omgooses! There are about 2 good racial powers, and even then they aren't that appealing.
Here is the rundown of the WoW class system.
Every Rogue will have every power of every other rogue. The only difference is a talent tree that might as well have only one path, because half of it sucks and would take a 5 year old to actually use the crappy talents. Blizzard has no sense of balance. There is one finished class, and it's called the Shaman. They probably even nerfed that by now, as opposed to finishing the other classes.
Hasn't this been done to death :P.

MMOs Retired From: Earth and Beyond, Project Entropia, There, A Tale in the Desert, Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Eve Online, City of Heroes/Villains.
MMOs Currently (worth) Playing: None.
MMO hopefuls: Age of Conan.
Gonna throw my vote to GW on this one. The Co-op missions are fun but the PvP is top notch. I'm a casual strategy gamer that likes team based PvP, so I'm probably a little biased on this one. If you want a faster Everquest, play WoW.
you cant say what game is better, it depends on what you want to play.
if you want to spend much time on rpg, pve and want good atmosphere and have uber items, then play wow.
if you want to raise you char fast just to play pvp and want a game where you can play professional and balanced pvp choose gw.
thats what i think.
both games have their advanteges and disadvanteges. you can say the one game is the opposite of the other one.
