Wow, it truly was a year to forget when it comes to new mmos, if 'most innovative' list has to include wow, rift and swtor. So out of 5 games 3 are basically copies of each other with maybe 1 distinctive feature per game, and that grants them spot in 5 most innovative games.

Hopefully 2012 wont be anything like this or we'll end up with wow newest expansion as most innovative game of the year :P

I played all five of the games in the GOTY catagory, and voted for EVE.  I'm not a huge fan of it, but I enjoyed it for a while, and consider the best of those five.  Especially considering how well its aging.  Other MMOs I enjoyed more in the past are unplayable now, due to feeling so dated, but not EVE.

My second choice would be Rift, because it was the most fun in the short term, but behind EVE in depth, longevity, and innovation, which all come into consideration for me.

Anyhow, just FWIW, the rationale behind my single vote in that catagory.

Agree. That's is very similar rationale to my own.

Cause sorry which game out of those 5 should have my vote on GOTY?

    WoW ?

    Lotro?

    Please...

Those games already reached their peak and and in twighlight "zone" if you know what I mean.

Out of this limited choice EvE Online is best option, even though playing a spaceship (practically) is not my thing. Still it is one of most succesful games out there +definately diffrent and more innovative than most.

Just 2011 was so weak year in mmorpg's (last few years were tbh) that I don't think any other game could claim this title.

    LOTRO FTW!!!!

The Rise Of Isengard Expansion is really great, and the new Skirmish Mark system/Rep system is a huge improvement.

Also, people who place this game in the WOW group as the games who have reached their peak, they are wrong and have obviously not been following recent events on LOTRO. LOTRO is still gaining members and is NOWHERE near it's maximum.

LOTRO for game of the year!!!! A game with the best content of any other game combined!!! (obviously)

EVE as best MMo all the way, especially after Crucible. GW2 for most anticipated

Not a chance for EvE as best MMO given Monocle-gate and CCP's shitty treatment of their fans.

They should have had a "None of the Above" choice, I would have voted for that.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

Guys, really, two WOW-clones fighting for the "most innovative" award?

I know, seriously.. I voted for Glitch :P

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Really? You guys folded and put SW:TOR in the running? I know it technically came out in 2011, but come on. 3 weeks is enough for everyone to fully know the game, the direction its going, and what it will be in a few months? Was proud of MMORPG.com for awhile when they said they didn't want to add it into the running but would be in the 2012 one. Don't hate the game, just dislike that people fold under pressure.

As far as the results go, its about what I figured. A few surprises did show up. Didn't expect such a strong showing for EVE though. Would have been nice to see a larger voting poll for more games that are in the genre.

I'm sorry but while EVE is a great game and all, there are only ~350,000 active subscriptions.

And I know a whole lot of people who have 2 or 3 accounts (sometimes more). So the number of players is far below that number.

You're right but you see, in EVE you easily play with 25 to 10 times more players than WoW because there's only one world. WoW with its 10million players (and each other GOTY listed but EVE) splits its community in, i don't know, 2k? 4k? 5k players per server?

I was wondering about it too. But it's two WoW clones, Counter-Strike on tanks, Glitch that is actually not released yet (so i feel like it's not right to even put it in 2011 vote) and DC Universe Online....hmm not much choice. I think i'll choose DC.

EVE Online... Best game of the year!

No need to say more realy... After years of playing MMO's and basicly "Playing" "all single" game in this sites list i found EVE...

I have never seen before another game like this one... game totaly driven by the players in terms of games economy and "Wars" betwen corporations/Alliance (or guilds as u prefer)... and the company developing EVE actualy listens to its player base! Something we all know its very hard to come by :)

After playing EVE for awhile i kinda felt in love by the fact tht CCP (Company tht created EVE) even makes events like the "Alliance tournement" and broadcasts everything online like if it was a show! they have many movies in youtube (in their own youtube channel) tht tlk about the game and its Development while it goes!

Hell wht other company actualy pays airplane tickets for their "players advisers" (wht we call CSM...group of players choosen by the players tht give advices on wht needs to be changed or fixed and wht not) to go to Sweden for meetings with the CCP's??

So yeah... EVE Online... Game of the year everytime boys and gals :P

Same here. Several of the games listed in the categories I haven't played before so I didn't vote in those games, but I have certainly played Eve. True, it might be years old, but CCP is constantly striving to keep it at the cutting edge...and they certainly are. The logistical complexity and challenge that you can get out of it, the tactics, the planning...every other GotY contender listed above COMBINED doesn't even come close to Eve, and if CCP can get Dust514 working properly as well...the words to describe just how awesome that will be don't exist. Good games look to Eve for inspiration, and even Perpetuum, which is basically a 90% ripoff of Eve with a ground-based battlemech flavor mixed in, is a mere shadow of Eve.

I've played WoW, I've played Rift (in fact I was one of the beta testers for that one), I've looked into many of the other games (including LOTRO and SWTOR) and checked out classes, gameplay videos, guides, etc and found nothing really new in them so I didn't bother downloading the client. I don't care what you naysayers say; Eve Online completely crushes them the way you would crush a slug with your foot. It is the ONLY feasible choice for Game of the Year, period.

    Where's the any key?

  • KiljaedenasKiljaedenas Member Posts: 468

erm...am I going crazy, or did my last post just become the description for each of the voting categories?

(update) Oh, nope, there it goes back to normal after I made this one. Ignore.
