Been playing SWTOR a lot now and messed around with various classes. I am really enjoying it for what it is. IMO One thing that would just tip this game into greatness would be the expansion of space combat and ship types.
For those that haven't played the space combat, its very similar to Freelancer (almost identical in some ways). Except you are on a set path that allows you to dodge and fire at oncoming fighters etc.
I really hope they release more neutral ships and mods that a player could save up and pay big bucks for. Even adding the options to craft for one. It would just give a whole new dimension to the game.
In addition to this, allow people access to your craft and it would be amazing to have a proper space PvP map with the same combat mechanics.
I know there are already some things in the works but I really hope they push space combat and ships forward.
Afterall the game is called 'STAR' wars. Not 'GROUND' wars!

I thought it was the worst part of the game, done two missions and never touched it again. It just isn't any fun, the ship movement feels really horrible, the combat isn't exciting and I found the two missions I done boring.
Btw it is nothing like Freelancer.......... what are you smoking?
What Bioware need to do is put them Battlefront guys to good use and get them to make 3D movement space combat PVP.
1: BioWare/EA buy out Black Prophecy
2: Take game engine and add Star Wars content
3: ???
4: Profit
Porn has voice acting, who doesn't skip it?
So what the original poster is trying to say is...
What he hopes is is that Bioware does what they should've done from the start and make a real space flight sim such as X-Wing / TIE Fighter.
I really dislike beating around the bush because you're afraid to admit that what exists now is shallow garbage.
I was the opposite. Once I had my ship, I played the levels over and over again trying to top my last score.
I completely agree with Freelancer on rails. If they could take that and turn it into a Privateer, I would squeel with delight.
If they made it like Privateer and really expanded it out, my marriage would be in trouble I think Privateer holds the record for the longest gaming session I have ever played. Had to stop because my eyes couldn't take it after 15 hours.
In addition to my wish list. I had hoped space battles would pop up when you tried to fly to a new sector etc. Pirates and opposing faction would jump you mid travel and you enter a space battle to escape. Just add so much more lore and feel to the game. Plus I feel there should definitely be space resource missions. I should be able to fly to a spot and mine or fight for desh or treasure. e.g. destroy pirate base to receive companion gifts or lock boxes.
- replying to the first post. Freelancer was obviously not on rails but the way the ship moved and fired plus graphics, looks very similar to SWTOR. Only my opinion of course.
Afterall the movie had only 2 major space battles... And one hungry asteroid :P
Yeah they can epand it, but giving free flight? i dont see it happen, it is very simmilar to the bombing missions in WoW on rails it works well out of it it doesnt, space combat is supposed to be a mini game once you give free flight it is 1) very hard to script with in the context of the game 2) becomes much harder 3) most likely will require a diffrent engine 4) will require a complete redesign of the current space battles 5) is was never ment to be a major part of the game....
This isnt an a space shooter MMO, it is not EVE, BW will never invest that much resources into it in order to give even 1% of freelancer, or wingcommander or what ever other old school space adventure game your nostaliga is drooling for.
The only annoying ting about space combat atm is that its too easy, i've never seen a mission thas far which i did not finish with about 50-40% of the time remaining, including the bonus objectives i whish they put in an exit area option in once you've finished the main objective because being on rails for 3 additional minutes shooting down fighters for single digit xp a pop is annoying...
Did a poll back in beta.
Asked people what they thought of it on a scale from 1-10.
with about 1k votes the aveage was about 7.7ish.
I don't care about innovation I care about fun.
What Im more interested in is guild capital ships. They said its coming soon after launch and that might have different ship content! @_@ Hopefully with multiplayer ship stuff too o.o

lol did two missions and thought it was boring. Ya know, things as such usually scale with difficulty as you level. and they do, some of the later missions are awesome, a lot more going on....
Have to agree with the easy bit yea. I would prefer them to be a bit harder at the very least.
I know I am dreaming about them making free flight but some points can be definitely added in:
1- more ships
2- resource missions with the same rail like system
3- random encounters when travelling that are on the same system.
Be interesting to see the next installment with guild capital ships etc. Be fun if you could call in support and have one big supporting attack with a 1 hr cooldwon
Random encounters will be fun for the first 3 times they happen, it will annoy the hell out of you the next, do you realy see an MMO working if you rushing back to the fleet for a raid and you get a bloody space battle due to a random encounter?
Guild capital ships were never comnfirmed by BW, this rumor spread like wild fire they only said they are looking at many venues in order to expand space battles, honestly it's just a regurgitated PR response but w/e
ToR to many is way too anti-social as it is, givving more instanced content for guilds to hang in their own private little yards will only agrevate this issue.
If any thing they should fix the current issues with group travel, ie why is it that every time some one travels on my ship they will exit from their own hangar and ship at the destenation? It wouldnt be a big deal but the load time increase is insane, i've done some deep testing and when you exit some one's ship you load into yours first then autmatically load into the destination port which is a big WTF on it's own.
Guild/Group space battles might sound fun but at the end they will be nothing more than ICC airship on rails
And if they will be nothing more than guild housing then ToR is the last game that needs or can support player or guild housing of any sorts, it has 0 user generated content, it is the theme park of all theme parks compaired to it WoW looks like the mother of all sandboxes, no this does not mean its a bad game but it means it just wont work...
too bad the real problem with the game is the engine they built it on....This is the major downfall for a lot of other MMOs...if the gameplay becomes limited by what the engine has to offer, then none of these problem can or will be fixed...
The Hero Engine is just not the right fit for a SW MMO
1. Fix bugs, crashes etc.
2. Add end game content (other than dungeons/raids)
3. Develop space combat and space actions in general
4. Make a fully customizable UI
5. Add macros
6. Add more warzones and make a specific queuing option. Not only random
7. Add target of target option
8. Make items stuck in bags/bank
9. Implement guild level’s, bank, perks, housing
10. Remove instancing in maps
11. Make a better AH with better search option. Bid option missing too.
Make some of them or better all of them and maybe the game will be a hit
Star Wars Galaxies: jump to lightspeed.
Thats all i have to say
dude, what are you on??? Have you even played that game?
how is it even close to Freelancer? Freelancer was the closest to a sandbox singleplayer space combat game we've had in decades. With the exception of X series, Freelancer was the most fun I've had in a space sim game. It gave you so much freedom that comparing this to the rail shooter from SWTOR is actually an insult
SWTOR is as close to Freelancer as Skyrim is to Super Mario
I review lots of indie games and MMORPGs
Played one mission in Beta. Not only bored, but felt dumber for playing it. In release, I haven't even touched space combat. Not once. Not until they design something that doesn't feel like a giant slap in the face.
Wait---what? Freelancer? SWTOR space combat is like Freelancer? OMG dude, whatever you are smoking, that is some good stuff. I would cherish it if I were you.
copy cat:P

LOL,
come on people read my post. When I talk about Freelancer I mentioned that SWTOR is on rails but the feel of the movement, graphics and the mouse controlling the ship felt like freelancer albeit in a fishing bowl. Of course Freelancer is free roam, massive etc etc.
Basically I just want to see some space improvements to have a much bigger feel to the universe. Another option is to have missions planet side, like flying above a forest taking out turrets etc.
People so harshly bashing space combat is out of line.
- they said they are going to greatly expand on it (speculate what you will) (co-op?pvp?)
- it's not forced on anyone. It's a mini game Atm that gives rewards.
- great experience for 5 minutes.
Stop treating anything you dislike like the game revolves around it...giving a false impression of how important a feature is.
Everything I say is my opinion or personal preference. You may or may not find it useful to your cause but regardless I am entitled to it.
I disagree, it's not even close.
In TOR there are none flight dynamics. Ex: you won't turn faster if you reduce your speed.
The graphics, IMHO feels flat.
Mouse controlling: in Freelancer you move slightly your mouse in any direction and your ship follow, not the case in TOR.
I find it to be a fun distraction that spices up questing
don't need more, focus of the game should be on the grond
