Pfft, all the markets are depressed at the moment & a huge number of behind the scenes string-pullers are making billions off the back of the global recession, the "talk" of doom & gloom is carefully orchestrated by the back room boys working the numbers to dump stocks on good firms so they can buy cheap for later high resales & recoup the difference in their own pockets.
those "brokers" need to read them some MMORPG.com -- the staff heres says this is a polished, great MMO. wake up brokers !!
I read some of the reviews that are posted up on metagamer from the game industry and it's startling how much of their review information is flat out and patently wrong. I'm done with most of these websites and their reviews because they are a scam.

Yep. I take my reviews from fellow clan mates if anything. If not that, then I'll listen to user reviews on independant forums before any "official game review' or one of the usual suspect review sites, including this one.

OMG just how many intial sales were they expecting? I'm not saying that the game is perfect. I'm just saying that initial sales of the game were not bad
Oh dear, "analyst Todd Mitchell" must be a SWTOR hater !
Maybe he plays Republic, and got badly spawn-camped yesterday ?
He said:
"Specifically, initial sales appear to be below expectations, and casual observation of early play is causing us to rethink our churn assumptions," Mitchell wrote."
I thought some fanboi would've dragged upon that already.
But on a serious note, these firms don't lower their expectations without solid reasons. And if the money is starting to lose their faith, the game is tanking more than we have been able to speculate here.

Indeed. He would be right if he mentioned expected subscription retention, but sales?

They want quick cash-in and then steady profit. But the initial buy is important, because it reduces the risks and frees the money to be invested to somewhere else.

Yes they do, for and for the very "solid" reason of personal profit.

Folks should also realize the LucasArts and their investors are going to be watching this as well because LA doesn't make a penny on TOR until EA/Bioware recoup their initial investment costs. That was part of the licensing deal they struck for the game. If initial sales are not up to snuff or it doesn't look like the game is going to retain a ton of subs, things are going to get nasty fast between these two, with LA stepping in and making decisions for EA just like they did for SOE.

My point is just how high this analyst expected initial sales to reach? The game has like 150 servers on NA + EU.

Very true, but there is one caveat. LucasArts hold a large part of those production costs to be recouped first, since his studios billed for much of the VO and studio work.

Very good point Bunks, I hadn't considered that when I first thought about what I posted. Kudos

Well I must thank all reviewers of this game. They literally opened my eyes of how reviews can be partial and with this I dont mean the stupid speculations of "paid by the company". Just that people are not rating machines. I am really thankful (I dont mean sarcastically) that I learned this because before I played the game in base of reviews. I thought that there must be a base criteria on how to rate a game. I thought that to review a game you must have some sort of training or expertise (I know, dumb of me). I am always happy to learn a lesson.

Not positive, but I think subscription retention is what he means by 'churn'.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

LA has covered his ass, no matter what happens
That's why when back in Feb the investors were up in arms when getting pitched about 3-4 million sales, most directly from WOW, and a 1.5 million subscription retention, they(the four major investment groups) were screaming about doubts in those estimates much earlier. Because it would leave only Lucasarts being the only one without risk. Of course Kotick(Activision CEO) was the one twisting the knife of doubt.
This battle was ugly way back then, I can't imagine how bad it's going to get from here. Would love to be a fly on the wall for the next confrence.

yes churn means retention. I don't know what churn will be for this game. If you want to ask me then I can tell you from what I have seen in game churn will be very low. From what I have seen on the forums churn will be high.
I didn't add this part in to my quote because I am specifically focussed on the lower than expected initial sales. I did see bioware proudly touting 2 million+ sales on 11th Jan. I just wondered how many they were expecting for 2 million to be dissappointing?

I am the farthest thing from a SWTOR or EA or bioware fanboi you will ever find....BUT, WSJ is owned by fox news (sic) corp.....just sayin'.

EA stocks drop after they announce their support for the SOPA bill.
And you assume its SW:TOR?
I assume its people talking with their money, EA you are evil, and SOPA is evil.
