reading all these /ragequit threads here has made me want to play RIFT again.  Although I didnt buy or play SWTOR, somehow being on these forums has pushed me to want to re-sub to RIFT....WTF ?

It could be the lack of anything else to look forward to.

Probably the wrong forum section for this...

Also, I wish I could like Rift, its play control is too loose and its graphic art design and art direction are just simply horrendous.   Also the abillity to macro everything to two buttons....

that really kills it for me

I want to say something but would get flagged for trolling.
Like another poster said, go play a healer or support.

    Philosophy of MMO Game Design

  • i'm mainly a dps mage and have strong ST and AoE dps. i top my raid parses each pull and have to work my tail off to get solid numbers and there are no macros used. if you don't want to play a class that is "able" (not required) to use 2 button macros then give mage a go.

No. I can macro any mage spec no probs. Even my Stormcaller spec has been macro'd. The only spec that's near impossible to macro is the Rogue's Bard spec. 1,2,3,4,5, spam Cadence, Finisher (repeat).

i don't doubt that you've macrod in some abilities on your mage, but what are you parsing on HK bosses? riftlogs is public. i don't know high ranking mage that sits high on those ranking that uses macros. the dots are all instant with no cooldowns, and 36/30 and 38/28 all both dot heavy.

edit: sc/ele is full of non CDs as well. FL/LF, CB, IS, TB, LS and HS are both ground targeted. the only thing i could think of that would be macrod in would be notactive

    Lol, lost total credibility there!

To be fare, you can make a macro for just about any mage spec, but you'd be one really bad mage.

I can put together macros for stormcaller as well, doesn't mean I'm getting the most out of the class build.

I mostly use macros for my rogues, I also use a spam macro for some of my mage builds as well, but I use the same kind of basic spam macro for my rogues.  If I can elimite the need to press 2, 3, or 4 buttons, then it's a lot easier for me to hit the other 4,5, or 6 when I need to.  Especially in PvP.  Good god, some of my rogue builds have me hitting around 12 buttons.  I tie everyting to buttons 1-5, f1-f6, q,e,r, f, spacebar (I dont use it to jump), and mouse button 5; those are all just for activating skills I use in combat.  I use the same keybind layout for both my rogue and mage.

Sadly my Mage is not geared for HK yet, only my Cleric and Rogue. This image (before I started getting T1 Raid gear) will give you an idea of how I macro'd my 36 Storm/ 30 Pyro DPS spec, and how the actual abilities don't take up much space on my Hot-bar. I didn't go macro crazy, like some might suspect but I did macro key abilities like Flamebolt & Cloudburst together and Raging Storm & Eletrocute, to improve efficiency. This is what I mean about being able to macro any mage spec.

RIFT is the best new Themepark style game on the market thats reasonably new, TORs utter and dismal failure leaves a Vacum that is almost hand made for RIFT to fill. GW2 wont have RAIDs in any traditional sense, and those people are going to want heavy instanced PVE content. The talent system RIFT uses is actually better than anything TOR or WOW were doing. RIFT has everything to gain because it fills a vacum, GW2 has everything to gain because TOR isn't a success to any degree and doesn't clog up the market on new players deciding what to play.

I would bet however TORs failure will stabilize RIFTs sub retention.

Yeah, Rift seems to be THE GAME for the min/maxers and the PvE Raiders and will establish itself as such, in the MMORPG market (if it hasn't already). Everyone else will flock to Guild Wars 2 and The Secret World for other reasons, as those games have things going for them that Rift and WoW don't have (e.g. 3 Faction conflict). Whereas I feel that SW:TOR seems to lack the staying power of the MMO, because of it's focus on the singleplayer experience and most people only bought it to experience the "Bioware story".
