EAlouse was right....

I remember when EAlouse first showed up and i thought it was REDICULOUS. But recently i unsubbed to SWTOR because it possibly the most disappointing MMo i've played.

However, for old times sake i read over EAlouse's blog again and realized some frightening similarities to current events. Let me list some of the ones that stood out:

Louse: "More than 300 million was spent on the old republic"

It's unconfirmed but analysts are now saying 500 million was spent on STOR

Louse: "Something like 20GB download and most of it voice over"

SWTOR is 25 GBs

Louse: "EA knows it will be a failure and so does George Lucas"

EA stock dropped 3% in one day because of post-release SWTOR sales not meeting expectations. George Lucas retired shortly after SWTORs release

Louse: "Most of Mythic has been cannibalized to work on SWTOR"

Bioware confirmed that the Warhammer team is working on SWTORs PvP. Ilum was found to be an absolute desaster

Believe it or don't, but I refuse to believe that some random person on the internet can so accurately "guess" at something like the size of the download TWO YEARS before it was released.

MMOs played: WoW, Star Wars Galaxies, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars, Planetside, Global Agenda, Star Trek Online, RIFT, Everquest 2, Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, EvE online, APB
Best MMO Companies: Trion Worlds, ArenaNet, CCP
Worst MMO Companies: Electronic Arts

So he was close on the install size. I guess everything else was correct too then? As for random, he was a Mythic employee, so to guess the install size wouldn't have taken much I don't think.

One analyst claims 500 million. That analyst could be EALouse for all you know.

Fanboys back then didn't get hit by a reality punch all over their face.

However, it was common sense to say that EALouse was full of BS.

He still is, but he also has SOME truths.

People guessed the same thing about Warhammer and AoC. Doesn't mean they were insiders does it?

    Or accurate guesses.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

he got the download size right and we're supposed to revel in his obvious "insight"?

lolol, the rest of it can be determined by the fact that this is a massively expensive to create theme-park MMO. We knew that at LEAST 2 years ago...

Does it really matter how much was spent on the game?  It's EA's risk to take not yours, unless your a stock holder.  Besides I highly doubt the 300 million number much less 500.  If you look at the staff sizes in Bioware Austin there is a 1/3rd the people employed it would take to burn that kind of cash even with outsourcing.

Vanguard and FFXIV were both over 18GB so again so what?  Compared to what those games had content wise at launch SWTOR seems tiny.

Really 3 whole precent?  Wow thats impressive.  In case you don't know stocks drop 10-15 plus precent all the time on analysis "news".  It means absoultly nothing.

And your preference would have been for EA to lay them off?  Because they were not going to keep those guys around a dying game so it was either transfer them or fire them.

All his predictions where in many ways either unconfirmable (such as development price) or self fulling such as it will fail which is VERY VERY subjective when it comes to a MMO.

I would be amazed if George Lucas had any clear idea of what SWToR was, much less retired because of it.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Dude, miss the point much? Do you think Lucas, who has had years of making movies, just released a critically acclaimed movie, is richer than god (thanks to merchandising) and is 67 is REALLY retiring due to SWTOR? If so, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I would like to sell you.

You're right, companies never try to damage control when their MMO is failing

Bioware is putting out veteran rewards ONE MONTH after release.

George Lucas retiring because of TOR might be the most hilarious thing I've ever read on this site.

  • WhiteLanternWhiteLantern Member RarePosts: 3,319

By the way, he is the analyst's quote:

“I think it’s safe to say that the total all-in investment in ‘Star Wars’ is probably approaching half a billion dollars,” Creutz says. “EA has minimized its risks as much as it can on this bet, but it’s still a risky bet. To the extent that any one game defines his tenure, it’s going to be how ‘Star Wars’ performs.”

If you look further up the article he talks about the aquisition of BW by EA costing 775 Million dollars. This analyst is placing the largest portion of that aquisition on TOR in adition to any funding specifically raised for the TOR project.

This is likely based on how much profit DA, DA2, ME2 and any other games BW has produced since the buyout can be subtracted from the initial 775M$ investment in the studio. That sum will go down as ME3 makes profit and any other projects make profit.

Holy crap, I'm an analyst now! Go me!

You do know the man is the founder of several companies but he has no part in the day to day operations of said companies. Right? You do know how this works?

Seriously....this thread again. I fail to understand what the point of posts like this even is. If you dislike the game then thats fine, it wont be for everyone, but seriously why the need to create post after post that rambles off some nonsense as fact, turns into a flame war and really accomplishes nothing.

If you like the game then play it, if you dont then find one of the 50 million other titles out there and enjoy one of those.

Lucas quit because everyone dogged him for not keeping his hands off the classics. The changes he made in the Blue-ray edition were overly embarasing and never should have been added, and yes he should be flamed into retirement for them. The guy had grat vision, over 30 years ago, pretty sure he has lost it since then. If he wanted to retire after a failed Star Wars game, Im fairly assured he would have retired after the stream of terrible games that have been released over the past decade.

What does GEORGE LUCAS have  to do with Bioware and Lucas Arts in damage control?

I mean yeah the game had issues and missteps to be sure. But if you actually think these minor issues (yes these are minor in comparison to release day bugs/exploits I have seen in MMO's) are going to ruin this game, you've been hitting the Kool-Aid pretty hard man.

    EAlouse is:

    1. A highly trained industrial spy with prophetic powers

    2. A disgruntled ex-employee with an axe to grind
