Looking for a Collector

So, Im looking for a mmorpg, in either scifi/fantasy/whatever, where you can pursue a hobby of collecting, but not just randomly holding onto like, 1 of everything in game, but where you can collect legitimately near-unique items, IE: Items that are no longer sold in game, or can no longer be crafted in game, but the ones that players had in their stashes are still there, until they are destroyed, dropped, trashed, sold, etc.

Setting isn't to much importance, it can be scifi/fantasy/modern/post-apoc/etc, as long as it's not some regular life stuff like Sims or something,  I would 'prefer' large amounts of customizability, whether this comes in the form of character/skills/wear options/housing/whatever, but thats not necessary.

Thanks for anytime spent reading this, and any time spent formulating a response.

Rift? artifacts ( collectables ) world event items ( like new patch event or holiday.. items can be purchased from event currency, and that cant be earned after event is over, there are tons of those kinda unique items in rift, and considering world events aint going away those just keep growing )

    Eve.

Many ships that you cannot get anymore nowadays, some of them are VERY seldom. I don't know how seldom but I think of some kinds there are only 10 left anymore or so - in a game with 50k+ concurrent online users. There are other collectors in that game too.

Also, T2 blueprints, errr.. I don't even know what else. Gift ships, tons of rare ships that you can still get nowadays. It would probably take you a long time to even collect one ship of each kind. And you'll actually get something for your money, a real sandbox experience, if Eve is your kind of game.

Runescape has you covered, but keep in mind some of those will take you years of playing to be able to buy.

RIFT, EQ2 or LotRO - depends on what you want to collect.

    RIFT: Mounts, artificats & pets.

EQ2: Housing items, mounts, pets and tons of in-game shiny collections.

    LotRO: Wardrobe items & mounts

UO is the only game I've played where this felt like a real part of the game.  It had (has?) a thriving market of unique items from server birth rares (things that only spawned the first time a server came up), to a steady stream of unique and limited-run event items.    There was also a lot of sentimental collecting of player-crafted items and player-written books, although character names are not unique so it was mostly a personal nostalgia thing.  Many servers would have player-houses set up as museums to display collections.  Item-duplication-bugs were notoriously destructive to this hobby.

Agree 100% UO is the best for a collector hands down .. EQ2 housing is real nice also ... the others are just terrible imo
