Marie "Aro Sei" Croall has penned a new entry on the Fallen Earth blog detailing some faction changes that will be coming into the game in the near future. The changes will be implemented mainly in the faction mechanic itself and Croall lays out the implications of the alterations.
With the introduction of Global Territory Control, a system that combines the recently introduced Faction Territory Control keep mechanics with conflict towns and allows players to capture territory to contribute towards a global advantage for their faction, we also want to make sure it is clear to all players who they are fighting for and who they are against. Currently the situation can exist where Player A can be allied with Enforcer and Lightbearer while player B is allied with Lightbearer and Vista. Player B can be hostile to Player A but will appear friendly due to the shared Lightbearer faction. It can get kind of messy, and not knowing who will attack you can really put people off of PVP. FE has a bit of a learning curve and this is one of the places where we feel we can soften that without dumbing it down.

"without dumbing it down"
Wait, so its an mmo right? But it isn't dumbing something down? Well this just makes no sence at all.
The elimination of Friendly Fire is about as dumbing it down as things can possibly get, PvP-wise.
Albeit honestly PvP in FE has always been a bad joke, so meh. Unfortunately for G1, they've urinated on the RPers long enough that a huge chunk of them have left, PvE is limited because content additions aren't going to happen in any meaningful sense, so that leaves PvP.
PvPers have long been the loud mouthed tail that wagged the FE dog, much to the game's detriment, but at this point, if they want to keep what meager population the game has left, they have no real choice but to do what the PvPers want.
Eliminating FF isn't going to solve the furball problem, that's simply a side effect of that game not being designed with PvP in mind, nor will it do much to make faction matter (that ship sailed long, long ago), and it's inevitably going to be exploited. Bad idea all around.
Fallen Earth goes F2P ... nice ! ! !
Its been F2P for months now :P
Getting rid of FF is a good idea. Can't think of a single reason why it would be needed. Realism? No not needed there because this is not reality, it's a game. There are many mechanics within games that are acceptable but not based in reality, such as being killed and then respawning moments later in perfect health. The only purpose it might have is for griefers, and people who gravitate toward that game style might like the option to harrass someone of the same function.
FF is really a good game and I've always liked the dev team. But for it to be something that really grabs me I'd probably want appearance tabs and housing, aka rp type elements to attract the rp crowd.
Its not that simple. Without Friendly Fire, you can just use dual SMG's or dual pistols to spread some bullets around without carefull aiming or drop some AOE's with the new heavy weapons. The AOE spam would become ridiculous. This would make FE's pvp very boring. Another reason is harvesters. Without friendly fire you can drop a harvester and some unknown person from the same faction (but from other clan) can just follow you around and pick up the spawned resources and you cant do anything about it.
Before they get rid of friendly fire, there are some other mechanics that have to change first. Without changing those, getting rid of friendly fire is a very bad idea. You clearly dont PVP in FE otherwise you would understand that friendly fire is in for a reason, not for griefing (which is quite rare for some reason in FE).
Rocketlauncher & Grenade Spamming thats what we will see....epic fail !!
I think the problem is that FF has turned into a mechanic used to grief people more than it's something that makes PvP interesting. Or what people saw was a bunch of grenade and rocket launcher spamming anyway...so removing the friendly fire just means those people will die less.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
I dont think that FF is actually used to grief ppl, but it's an important aspect wen it comes to tactical combat wich will be gone if they actually take FF off the game.
Lots off ppl will be pissed of and lots of others will gladly take the changes, i'm actually curious how this will end up, personly i would keep FF as it is
What they are getting rid of FF thats just silly, I was really getting into FE PVP wise but i think ill not be bothering now..
Well the factions system is flawed. Having a pie wheel split in 6 factions, that's just asking for problems. I remember when i was playing, you constantly had to watch which factions you were killing or you'll endup gaining on your ennemy and losing on your friendly factions. And being allied and friend to 3 of the 6 while being enemy for the other 3, talk about confusing.
