LF Space/future with PVE, housing, crafting (like SWG was)

drkliterneodrkliterneo Member Posts: 7

Heya,

I'm looking to start a new MMO, I'd like these specs:

- PVE (mostly, with instance or not) Can have PVP, but not everywhere

- Have to create a character (not only a ship like EVE). You can get in vehicles and not see yourself, but at the end, you have a character.

- Future or space game ScyFi (I currently play AoC and I'm looking for a more futurist game than a fantasy game. Could be listed in Fantasy but still be a little bit ScyFi, like Rysom maybe))

- Crafting: Must have good crafting system (crafted items that makes a difference)

- Housing: Must have a place for yourself, a house, a room, etc. (could be simple like LoTRO or full range like SWG)

In fact, SWG would be the best example, but it's over...

I tried Starquest online a few years ago, but it was already old and empty, don't even know if it's still alive?

Any idea or suggestion?

    Nothing really.

We got WoW clones and dead old games. Welcome to the stagnant world of the modern mmo.

    Agree 100%.

Give a shoot to EVE. I m playing it the last 2 weeks and i think its the best out there this time.

There isn't anything and won't be anything coming anytime soon.  People have wanted player housing in many games and the majority of gamers do not care about that sort of stuff.  The modern MMO is about getting you to X level and having you rinse and repeat the whole 5 instances.  Until that mentality is rethought games shall be nothing but 50-80 levels of garbage and endgame grinds.

Starquest Online had some updates in the last  2 years, and recently had been taken over by new developers. The community is growing daily.

    Really, nothing.

I really think there's a market for a good, fun space opera with some sandbox elements in it.

Many would say Firefly, but I find its universe sterile. There are better suited IPs out there, and really, it doesn't have to be an existing IP at all. Someone might just come out with their own universe. EVE does have a nice one, quite fitting of the game's mood, when you think of it.

    Ok...

Lets say I drop the ScyFi criteria. IS there any MMO actually running with those criterias:

    - PVE (mostly, with instance or not) Can have PVP, but not everywhere

    - Have to create a character (not only a ship like EVE). You can get in vehicles and not see yourself, but at the end, you have a character.

    - Crafting: Must have good crafting system (crafted items that makes a difference)

    - Housing: Must have a place for yourself, a house, a room, etc. (could be simple like LoTRO or full range like SWG)

Do not consider LoTRO, AoC or WoW

Considering giving a retry to StarQuest Online or a try to POTBS

weirdly you could say sto.  Seems to fit most of that list(maybe not the crafting).  Probably only something to last you until you find something better though.

Also have you tried anarchy online?

Archeage.. Sandbox style, housing, pvp and pve, and as far as I know, its all open world, no instances. but its not scifi its fantasy..

Jumpgate Evolution was going to be the closest and best chance for space mmo, but netdevil and gazzillion ent botched it big time, wish some one would buy that IP.

Oh yeah Miner Wars, their getting mmo love at the end of the year that could give you what your looking for.

Saga of Ryzom may be fit that criteria best at this time...

Been about a year since I played but I thought EVE was working on having a character in station?  For what you want EVE is the only 1 currently.  I know they had  your character in his room/apartment/quarters in whatever station you were at when I left.  PvP can occur anywhere - kind of the best pat of it.

    Currently bored with MMO's.

Did I mention that Starquest Online is going Free to Play next month and having a Server Wipe? Next month will be the time to start up a new or resub on an old account, and make your place in the universe.

    Mm... Obvious answer is none!

But if you want something right away: EQ2, if you got some time to spare on SP games wait for Archage.

That being said, don't think there will be anything soon that will satisfy. So maybe drop some prejudices and try some out and just enjoy the games for what they are, not what they are not.

Or just don't play an MMO till there is one you feel like playing :)

If you don't mind EQ1-level graphics, Istaria has all of your requirements.

The community was very pleasant and helpful when I last played it.

One of the best things it has going for it is the ability to play a dragon (if you're a subscriber).

    Check out their forums here:

They need to revamp SWG and bring it back as a F2P game with option of subs. It was much more than these these half-a$$ed mmos being released today. Even with the NGE/CU it was a much better game than these other attempts to be a MMO.

No other game can compare to SWGs depth, features, social abilities, crafting, space flight, and exploration.

The Repopulation looks good but will probably be awhile before its released. Acheage is another decent looking game but not sci-fi.

As stated above the market is saturated with epic failures.... eeerrrrr i mean themeparks that look the same.

The features on that game sound almost SWG like :)

But 2 things have me worried

    1) graphics are kinda poor, atleast from the videos i have seen

    2) they are going f2p, i hate those. They always end up p2w.

    But damn nice concept.

  • itgrowlsitgrowls Member Posts: 2,951

not a single thing comes to mind. I play STO and it doesn't have those features it is heavily PVE tho it doesn't really have housing the ship interiors are barely customizable and only two npcs interact with you.

Eve probably has the best chance tho i think it has a humungous learning curve.

look at these - all have free trials

    EVE

    perpetuum

Wuurm - ok not future but has lots and lots of crafting

    Fallen Earth

  • aspekxaspekx Member UncommonPosts: 2,167

    Vanguard Saga of Heros

    EQ2

other than that a game with housing is rare anymore, which strikes me as weird.

Sadly there seems to be quite enough MMO lemmings who are happily paying a sub for just the stuff you described above. Why do something else when you can earn more money by copying WoW?

Housing requirement would give a list as follows....

UO, Dark Ages of Camelot, Istaria, EQ2, Vanguard and I guess some of the others mentioned above... that being said none are futuristic at all. And only EQ2 and Vanguard have anything close to current graphics.

Without housing and true sandbox you have Eve and Perpetuum... other than that not sure what to suggest... there has been a total dearth of quality games that are really immersive and that you can make your own in past 5 years

Man SOO true, if they rebuilt PRE NGE (with open classes) SWG on something like the Rift engine...I'd jump to it in a heartbeat...
