Following up on my last post, I played the game through with a different setup and with a friend the entire way, I must say the game is vastly more fun with a party of at least 2. Solo is quite boring. Sadly noone ever wants to group up in this game, even though the better loot only shows up when in a party. Guess it's the lone wolf mentality of modern mmo players these days.
Anyway as I said I got a friend in to play with and saw a drastic increase in fun, also I found a build I find particularly fun, unfortunitely it's due to a bug in the game allowing for the use of multiple skills that arn't supposed to stack. I'd tell everyone what it is, because it's the most amazing thing I've ever played class wise, and the only one to ever exist in any mmo, But I really want to finish the game before they "fix" it. (And I really hope they don't.)
Since my last post was so negative, let me try and be fair by covering the positive aspects as well.
1. The game is amazingly well polished. It honestly feels like a finished game rather than a open beta, let alone a closed beta.
2. Very few bugs, only found a single skill that stacks when it shouldn't. (Granted I've only tried 1 in like 2,000 of them.) And I've only experienced one CTD in 3 days of playing.
3. The graphics are... quite honestly stunning for a mmo, let alone a top down hack and slash. In fact they are better than many pc games out today.
4. Animations are very well done and varried.
5. Huge number of completely different items/weapons/gear, all with their own models and icons. No repeating art assets used with a different pallete.
6. Unique currency system, there is no gold. Money is in fact your posessions. The game uses a barter system of sorts with valuable enhancement gems as the medium of exchange.
7. Once you reach act 2, the zones become massive terrains taking a fair bit of time to cover.
Now that I've covered that, a few addional negatives I've come across.
1. No ability to pan/zoom the camera, and unfortunitely your stuck with the camera so far zoomed in you can see your character's bald spots. This makes ranged classes annoying to play as, you only have seconds before npcs are on top of you.
2. No trade system, no friend system, no guild system. Now the friend system is planned I know as there is a blacked out "add friend" when you right click someone. As for trading, well currently you can trade, but it's a major pain. You hhave to group with someone and then enter a instance and do a drop trade. Attempting to trade this way in say a hub will cause the items dropped to be destroyed.
3. Lag spikes. Not unplayable by any means, just very strange out of nowhere spikes, more noticeable in groups than when solo.
4. Repetitive enemies per zone. Now this is to be expected with how much time is needed to make these and considering how many npcs there have to be in this kind of game. But still it's weird to see bears/spiders/and giant monkies all working in tandem to kill just you the player, and somehow not trying to eat each other. (I'm still trying to find the "Giant Evil Forest Monster Friendship Community Center" and burn that mother down. :P
Edit: Evil typos
To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.
Yes it "looks" really cool. But besides that there is sadly nothing else in there. Basicly you grind your 4ss sore to get items and besides the hardcore-mode (1x dying and sent back to normal) there isnt anything that is a challenge.
Even the D3 Beta feels much better. More fluid, more innovative in the controls of this kinda top-down view. In PoE it is horrible to have a 24inch monitor! You literally can see all pores from your protagonist, because cant zoom out.
The only really good thing is the PASSIVE Tree. And thats it. The down-side of this one is, that new players get scared away by the sheer mass of posibilities. But when you look behind the subjective part, only few mechanics work in this so called "huge" passive tree.
There is no harm in trying out, right? So go for it.
i would kill for a Beta invite, if you got a spare key, throw me a PM, ill even send back the invite ill get and throw in a tribes ascend beta key as well!! what a deal.
Path Of Exile is now in closed beta, although limited press of heaven closed beta, it will help the game become what it wants to be. Path Of Exile is a Action RPG that takes the style of Diablo / Torchlight MMO space into different featureing persitant areas for you to explore with a friend or alone......
