LF Strong PvE Game with Minimal Instancing and Strong Community

sevvossevvos Member Posts: 2

Hi All,

I'm a former DAoC player and played on the PvE server due to the huge amount of open-world pve content.  I've wandered occasionally looking for new games, but nothing really meets what I'm looking for.  I really want to play a game with a ton of open-world content and a strong community with casual people that just like to play together (and not just grind to raid-based endgame).

Thanks!

Don't know if you have tried LotRO, if not, it's worth a go.  It's a fairly huge world and the community is fairly good as well.  It's a hybrid F2P game, so no harm in trying.

Vanguard has a HUGE world of PvE content.  The community is small, but vocal.  It has a trial.  So worth a go.

EQ2...now F2P.  Has a vast amount of PvE content.  I've heard mixed reviews on the F2P, but it's worth a go.  The community used to be pretty good, not sure now.

    Hope this helps a bit.

    Fallen Earth..

Not a large community... But pretty strong and durable.. Not much instancing at all... PvE elements are all there, you basically do your own thing when you want to do it..

Warning: Sandbox style.. It is not a PvP sandbox or as brutal as Darkfall or Mortal Online, more like Ryzom.. You work your way up to full on PvP areas.. But the learning curve is there..

Just came back to RIFT today, and I was did three instant adventures with 20 people for about 30 mins to get back into the groove of my character.

Then an invasion occured in the zone I was in and teamed up with around 40 other people running around the zone doing objectives then tackled the gigantic boss at the end.

Then I saw a group doing the daily raid rift (which is outside in the world and is easily puggable) and I joined up with the 10 of them and we downed the Raid Rift.  Then I was invited to thier guild and we ran around rifting with about 15 other people doing Crafting Rifts and getting tons of mats.

So I gotta say, this game really has an outstanding community and the game is made to be played cooperativly.  This was the main reason I left SWTOR and returned, because that game was so lonely at endgame, and it is awful trying to form groups for anything.

Do we really need to down play other games to make ours look better?  Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

rift probably best pve game on the market, lotro is focused on that too, tho never got past 15~ whatnot lvl so dont know exactly

lotro is ftp, but probably 20 times price of rift if you actually want to play pve game, because all those quest/zone/instance packs cost tons

wow stoped being pve game while ago, turtle speed updates no thx

vanguard is decent, but its dead game, cant expect pve from game that had 1? content update since release

eq2 maybe? f2p now too, but i bet all pve content packs cost 5$ each with 50 to buy,

and oh vindictus, not your typical game but its mostly pve, its free and its actually free, unless you need fancy hair to kill stuff..

personally only mmo games i still play from time to time is vindictus  and rift , one is actually free, another is dirt cheap and imho best pve game currently, give it a trial tho trial is rift one of weak points sadly and first 20~ lvls aint that great, but games opens up so much at lvl 50, if i didnt expierence my self i would never believed

edit: kinda ignored part about open world pve, without a doubt rift then ,personally never saw game with more outdoor world pve content  ( tho i still miss wow outdoor bosses hunt, and fight for emerald dragons.. good times )

I wasnt intending to down play, but OP asked for a game with minimal instancing and a strong community.  From my experience, he is not looking for SWTOR.

Vanguard is the game you're looking for. It's a great time to start as well, because SOE is finally looking to revive one of the most amazing MMOs ever created.

I was at the celebration earlier today and one of the community folks revealed that the development team has doubled in size over the last couple of weeks and a new producer has come onboard. Furthermore, Vanguard is getting updated to the new LaunchPad 4 launcher next week. Things are looking good!

good news indeed. i hadn't heard any of this and figured the promised changes just weren't going to occur.  VG is the main reason i kept my StationPass

Yeah the last month has been quiet, but Naylie mentioned the news today during the 5th Anniversary Celebration. She said some old faces were going to be back as well. I'm really curious who the new producer is...

If Vanguard comes back, I'm jumping from SWTOR to Vanguard. =O

Only thing that keeps me from playing right now is the average online player count of... what... 12?

Thanks for all of the replies!  I think that if Vanguard has a chance at a revival, I'll give that free trial a go!

There is a very good chance that Vanguard will be going F2P now that they've announced that EQ is.

    This would be most excellent.

I am looking for the same thing, I just canceled my SWTOR account, I got to 50 in 5 weeks with 7 pieces of Rakatta gear, and our crew is already 10/10 hard mode, and like 5/10 for Nightmare...I made the decision it was time to leave as I saw a long period of jumping up and down on a mailbox in my future.  The single player experience was amazing though...but I am not looking for a single player game.

I am looking for a game like Star Wars Galaxies WAS.  Great crafting system which let people differentiate themselves from each other, huge open world, with player housing, no hard class system (was amazing), and no level grind.  I miss the sandbox MMO.

I am picking up AO because although it's not all I am looking for, it's one I never grabbed before, and I figure it will be free for a while until I outlevel the free content, and it appears they are dropping a new graphics engine fairly soon which should make it prettier, although that is not a super concern.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them.

Strong community and minimal instancing + PvE.

That kind of games are not being developed anymore :/

    LOTRO or RIFT i guess

Conan has the community and the big world, but its pretty heavily instanced (not to the degree of SWTOR though)

Wow has the big world and isn't "that" instanced, but community..............

COH/COV has super good community, but it's getting a bit dated
