Of course we complain here, these forums are all about PVP after all.

Then most of us go back to the MMORPG that we are currently playing. (L2 in my case, SWTOR still on deck)

No game will ever make 100% of the people happy so there will always be detractors no matter how popular or awesome it really is.

I am having a lot of fun in Stalker Online right now. Who cares if it's in russian. All you need to know is that there is always a mission to turn in rat tails in every MMO.

Hmm show me one thing in the whole world that nobody is complaining about. MMOs,video games in general, are not the only thing that people complain. Music, sports, movies, politics, religions etc it's just a human typical behavior. Different tastes for different peoples.

To answer your OP: I've been happy with alot of MMOs.

Wrong.  MMO players are a diverse lot, and don't all enjoy the same thing.

There are those "MMO vets" that think they know what the MMO community wants, and deigns to speak for them, or believes they have some unique ability or authority to determine what is or isn't a good MMO for everyone else.  They don't - this disgruntled and disenfranchised few simply speaks loudly and often on any forum that will have them.

For every entitlement-laden MMO vet throwing a tantrum on a forum about a particular game, many others are actually playing and enjoying that game.

Why are their expectations not being met?  Certainly, most games will have legitimate problems on some level.  In point of fact, they all have or had problems, including the old games that vets often erroneously laud as "perfect".  The unfortunate fact is that many of their expectations aren't being met because they are wholly unrealistic, and in some cases, simply unfair.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

I suppose those who are the most negative and extreme want to rant. Thus, you do not see those who are happy posting much. They are probably playing instead of playing.

I am happy with most of the games I play. Otherwise, i won't be playing them. That includes WOW, DDO, STO, Skyrim, and probably a few others. And I only post when i cannot play (which is why you see me posting a lot during "business" hours").

The OP has a point. I mean, look at your own sig, lol.  "Awaiting: non suckage" after playing all of those MMOs?

If that doesn't exemplify the OPs point, I don't know what does.

but when the game finally releases, you people are never happy with it.

It seems as if most of your MMO enjoyment comes from fantasying on Future MMO projects, rather than enjoying the large list of MMO which we have already.

I get the feeling you people will never be happy with a MMO that has reached release.

    hey I seen this with:

    *Warhammer

    *AoC

    *Darkfall

    *WoW

    *MO

    *Rift

And on of the biggest of them all,,

SWTOR, which had no gameplay related hype AT ALL. No excuse there about the Over Hyped promises . SWTOR HAD NO GAMEPLAY RELATED HYPE!!!!! Everything was Story Hype. No excuse to blame Bioware here.

you people will never be happy with this genre. Even if they gave you a AoC level of Graphics skin on a UO clone. You would still find something to bicker about .

    I agree with this.

I'm getting my popcorn ready for the GW2 and TSW bashing show.

Its not just MMORPG gamers, nor is it everyone.  Its the new technological culture of "the next best thing" will be exactly what we need to "be happy".

Not everyone is like that.  Personally, I played SWTOR and enjoyed my time with it,  I played fallen earth, RIFT, CoX,  hell even Xsyon,  and enjoyed my time with them.  I am still realistically excited for upcoming games,  but I'm not dying of MMO dehydration.

Everyone today just acts like children,  they don't get what they want and complain,  or they DO get what they want, and still complain.  The next thing will always be better... until they realize it disappoints in some way and then somehow its utter crap and the company that created it should burn with the intensity of the sun.

Look at Darkfall!!!! Who hyped that mess up? The developers or fan base?

I agree -- fans hype up games more than companies usually

except for maybe Age of Conan where there were many false promises of game features

the GW2 fan hype makes me roll my eyes sometimes  (tho i do look forward to GW2 heh)

The title makes it sound like a definitive statement...  which is funny.

I was happy when I was playing Ultima Online.   I didn't leave the game because I was unhappy with the game.   Left over the results of the "volunteer" who decided to sue them and totally destroy the interest team I was part of (part of the outcome of the event even tho the woman in question was not part of that team).

I was perfectly happy playing SWG... played it every single day.   I remember asking the PA I was in what they thought about the CU... 100 different voices on vent.. "what is the cu..."   Next day I woke up turned on vent "what is this crap.." (they were on test server).

So I kept on playing even tho the PA was destroyed due to some unasked for game change (that's my point of view.. not saying its the reality).   Eventually I get them to come back and we start stocking the mall etc... next day NGE is announced and.. I didn't just lose the PA... 99% of the people I was gaming with simply vanished.   Far as I know they never played another MMO.

So if you think people aren't happy with the game they are playing at a paticular time... great that's your opinion.   Don't try to tell me I wasn't happy with the game I was playing at a paticular time.

Am I happy with games I'm playing now?  hell no.. they aren't the games I wanted to play.   Am I happy about games that haven't released..?  Hell no

What MMO is coming that's for me?   Maybe TSW... the game supposedly two months from release with a dev team so quiet a mouse fart would seem like a sonic boom.

I do get what you are trying to say... but you just need to realize there are people who at certain times are perfectly happy with the game they were or are playing... and in my case I'd still be playing one of those games but I'm not getting into that discussion again.

Hype is hype, this is how it is in any game genre. If this statement were true, more mmo's would legitimatly fail and shut down servers. Actually that is a pretty rare to happen, so some people consider low populations a failure which is not always the correct ways to judge.

How could this even be mathmatically true?

If they don't eat the first trash coming to their table, how are those games alive with no gamers playing?

Your idea is that mmorpg players know a good game from a bad....so which one/ones are being played by mmo gamers?

Are you really prepared to say that all mmo gamers are secluded to the one or two 'good' games, and no one is playing the bad ones? Or are you saying that the vast majority of people playing mmorpgs are not 'real' gamers?

Would you care to list the games that are approved by mmorpg gamers as 'good'? Are you prepared for the firestorm of posts talking about what should or should not have been included in this list?

The truth is mmorpg gamers each have their own personal opinion about what makes a game good/bad. It is not a universal game held by all gamers.

There is a hardcore WoW player out there who thinks all other mmo's are crap. There is a hardcore EVE player out there that thinks the same. For goodness sakes, there is someone who thinks STO or FFXIV are good mmo's. There is a casual player in CoH that feels it is the best mmo. All of these people are gamers, like it or not, and none have the same opinion about 'what is a good mmo'. They are all probably waiting for the next best thing to be released, which is the one thing all mmo gamers seem to have in common. There - I just helped prove the OPs point.

MMORPG gamers are never happy with the games they have, they are ONLY happy about the games that havnt released.

I will just say about MYSELF personally.

    "Never happy" is wrong.

    I was happy with:

    - Ultima Online for like 3 years (changes to this game were going into bad direction + real life things pulled me off)

    - Vanilla WoW (casualization, even more stramlining ,and many small thing pulled me off )

    - Lotro - for like 1,5 years - even though very limited game, I played it for 1,5 year.  Started to play it as P2P game, sadly few months after it went F2P / freemium - I could not stand expanding cash shop + that servers went to US = my warden close to unplayable

+ there were few others I was content with.

So I WAS happy with some mmorpg's.

That don't change fact I don't like MOST of mmorpg's cause of cokkie-cuter design, lack of freedom, streamlining, lack of challange in open world and any sort of risk factor  + rampaging cash shops that suck off enjoyment and immersion out of me personally.

That's why I don't play any mmorpg atm.

Not cause I am "never satisfied".

I played wow for roughly 5 years, I was adequatly happy during then, after i got bored of wow few mmos have deviated from the reasons why I got bored from wow and just copied it or been a broken shell of a game.

  • SuprGamerXSuprGamerX Member Posts: 531

Heh , the problem is people over hype and over anticipate a MMO release and most often label them as the next "WoW" killer.

To be able to even dent WoW is to make something completly new AKA : PlanetSide 2 / End Of nations.  Something that goes beyond bloody elves and a no risk fantasy world that we grew so familiar with.  Just with a picture of these fantasy genre MMO's I can already tell if the game is crappy or decent , because let's face it , we won't be getting any fantasy genre MMO's that will kill WoW anytime soon , if at all in this decade.

Devs like CCP that are incorporating FPS into their MMO known as EVE-Online is something never before seen and shows alot of promise.

End of Nations , ex members of WestWood Studios , the creators of the strategy genre as we know it today (Well more like garbage thanks to EA , but anyways...)

PlanetSide 2 , which will most likely put a huge dent in the Battlefield / CoD franchise once in stores.

When I watch GW2 / Archeage gameplay trailers , I always get the feeling of "Deja Vu" , sure I'll try them but I already know what to anticipate since I've been playing the fantasy genre since 1996 and I don't see anything new from where I stand coming out of GW2 and ArcheAge.    But I am highly hyper about End Of Nations , Planet Side 2 and Dust 514. When I watch one of those 3 game play trailers I get hyper and I just want to be in the action ASAP. I don't get that feeling anymore with fantasy type MMO's with elves and spells and such.  That's the road this genre needs to head into , half naked pixel girls played by boys , bloody elves , kill X return to Y , enough already!

  • jacklojacklo Member Posts: 570

Somebody already said "Players are a diverse bunch and all expect different things" (or something like that), which is true.

What is also true is that publishers continue to over-promise and under-deliver.

They market their game as fun for PvE AND PvP, they boast a massively multiplayer experience - that can be played solo.

It's not the GAMER at fault here. These companies should be held accountable for releasing sub-par trash that obviously bears no resemblance to the (un)finished product.
