If the game offers too much freedom, there's still theme parks with a regulated world, that way []==>

Let's sum this up, for kicks. Players complained about lack of customization, so the devs add something pretty cool, and new, because every players can have their individual logo on their cape. And now players complain it's too much freedom? Seriously?

You guys act as if the world wasn't full of offensive images. You all see those on a daily basis, on the streets, on the internet. So why act like a virtuous and pious virgin nun.

I love personal customization. I don't care if it leads to someone having  Penis on their cape. Because my cape looks like what I want it to look like.

And getting me attached to my character like that is how you retain my money.

But.... that siad... I'm still terrified of Asian video games.

I agree with some people theres going to be abunch of garbage uploaded.

But I have a way to fix it. Its rather simple. First there needs to be multiple warning messeges. Second if you ignore those warnings and upload something inappopiate its automatic perm-ban. Its really quite simple and a beautiful idea.

Anyways I love the idea, I am going to try my best to get my forum avatar loaded onto a cape and/or ship sails.

I like the idea. The only thing that I dont like is when people dont use the feature to its fullest potential. I see some people using the same image (for one thing I believe that many players will use a Strawhat Flag).

But thinking about it, it's not a bad idea. At least you know who are the people who think like you--meaning you'd easily know who will be your most precious best friends or most hated rivals (coming from the idea that you either super like a person who thinks like you or hate the person without the slightest idea why because he is the same as you).

I love that you can add this level of personalization to items! Yes, in Aion there were a few questionable images, mostly they got laughed at or the image ignored.

Now one day I hope to find them using heraldic language... Gyre and gyron, gyronaut, gules, argent, sable... :P

It's inevitable. Giving this much freedom results in less than desirable actions from some people.

PotBS also allows you to upload your own sails and flags.  They must be approved first by a player run committee/voting process.  I don't think this is at all necessary though...  A simple /report [player name] would do fine for stopping people from using sensitive material.

How are they gonna govern copyrights and trademarked logos? Or do they need to be checked by GM before usable?

Oh no! No! Someone has a funny picture on their cape that is less that 10 pixels in size! Although I can't see it, I know it's there! Why?!?!?!!?

People... This has been done in games before without any major issues. Lineage 1 and 2 both let players upload images for Capes, Clan Crests and Clan Banners. Sure, some abused it but it wasn't like policing it was a full time job for the GMs. This has worked in games in the past and will work just fine for ArcheAge.

Sounds like an awesome feature. All they have to do is make it so that the design must be approved by a gamemaster before the design appears on the capes. Thus they avoid possible issues with people uploading insensitive designs.

In their place, I would just put an extensive list of images that can be used and combined.

Let players be creative with tools what they get.

Otherwise we would have just ridicilous numbers of swastikas and penises on cloaks and sails.

Let them do it. It will be like putting a big sign on your head saying "I lack maturity to have a decent logo, don't team up with me/kill me".

Again, this is not the usual theme park with crappy mechanics. You can kill people of your own faction, so players better learn to behave or deal with the consequences.

This is in fact what's already happening on korean servers.

Yeah, in Lineage II back when I played I remember entire clans being put on KOS by some major alliances just because of the immature crap they put on their clan crests. This isn't some WoW type themepark game. In ArcheAge players will be able to police the world themselves if needed. It happened in L1 and L2... It'll happen in Archeage as well. Putting something stupidly immature on your cape will be like painting a giant bullseye on your back.

    THIS.

That's diffrence between games with virtual world and community and glorified framework to run instances with cross-server LFG tools aka many modern Themeparks.

Those individuals that will put swastikas , penises and that kind of crap will not be grouped with by most players, cooperated ,traded and will be killed frequently and finally reported to GM's.

That will disencorage most asshats leaving relatively small number of offenders that can be effectively taken by report + GM bans.

    edit:

even me myself and I will play mostly for 'feeling of virtual world, exploration, crafting' and I propably will pvp rarely at least by my choice , I will go and kill any douchebag with swastika on cape / sail.

This^ It just so happens that race of super douches used it as there symbol to. The swastika can be found on statues in Asia hundreds of years ago.

As someone pointed out, this has been done in other games, Lineage 2 being the game I'm most familar with. Policing it wasn't as big a deal as most offending images were usually removed quickly and for the most part players were good sports about it.

True ,but that does not really matter.

Why? Cause real meaning of the symbol is not it's original meaning but how it is perceived by most people.

Most people in western societes perceive swastika = nazi ,so that's what matters and thats why swastika is still banned symbol in few countries (Germany for example I think).

Besides I just used swastika as example, penises will get similar treatement.
