    Sadly, WoW.

Other games have had massive potential: WAR, DF, MO to name a few, but none have actually pulled it off.

It would be WoW, but it is older then 5 years.

For me it is a tie between Vanguard, LotRO and AoC. All three are great games, Vanguard wins by small % due to very immersive world and some innovations (diplomacy system, crafting)

    Best solo leveling experience: SWTOR

Best themepark end game experience: WOW - I burned out on it a while ago but it gave me tons of hours of fun

Best PVP: I can't answer that one as I haven't played DAOC, which is likely to be a common answerBut out of the games I have played I'd say old school WOW Alterac Valley was great fun with 10+ hour battles

for me, the mechanics of many of the more popular and highly rated games are pretty similar (with some exceptions, of course). eventually, the games i keep on my HD and pay for through subs or other transactions use the setting and employ subject matter i most enjoy. to that end, i can not name just one "best" game of the last five years, because my favorite depends solely on my mood that day (week, whatever). but for clarity:

Fallen Earth (love the freedom, crafting, firearms, and grand canyon sunsets on my chopper)

SWTOR (it's star wars, and i repect the polish and story elements)

World of Tanks (MMO-ish at best, i know, but it is a helleva lot of fun, and clan wars lends some persistence)

RIFT (does what it does very well indeed, and i like the soul flexibility)

Star Trek Online (again, the subject matter is important to me, the space combat is excellent, and my fleet/guild is fantastic)

I normally would have said LotRO, followed by Aion. But as those have since jumped on the F2P bandwagon, that disqualifies them in my opinion. LotRO especially  took a complete and total nosedive after the F2P move. I full expect Aion to do the same - it's just the nature of the F2P model.

Wtih that being said, my vote goes to Wizard101. A simple game, but one that I enjoyed more than many mainstream MMORPGs during the past few years.

    Darkfall hands down.

With all its short commings and failings of its own, it still FAR SURPASSED everything else on the market.

(and still does, untill gw2/tera/aa comes out)

My best was UO but.... in the last 5 years...

Probably WoW.  Being honest.  Im tired of it as you are.  Stopped playing a few years ago.

I stuck with EvE for six months.  Most of the others not nearly as long.  Playing Pirates of the Burning Sea now.  Really enjoying it but I think its for genre fans (You like movies like Master and Commander or sailing games).

I have to admit in the end the best mmo in the last 5 years would be WOW.  But before that?  I enjoyed UO far more.

SWTOR by a long way for me.

Just totally consumed my life, my friend's life, my co-worker's life.

    Just.. yeah... :(

I'm probably going to be yelled at for this, but WAR. Exclusively for PvP. Other games I have tried are just too linear and constricting for my taste. After a couple of hours of such PvE I invariably ask myself "What's the point?" and log off. WAR's PvE is linear and constricting like you wouldn't believe, but at least the PvP is great when it works.

    I dont.

I am not a really big fan of LotR in the first place, and LotRO came with truely weird decisions like only bards as healers and no female dwarves.

Okay, if we do this on a day - by - day basis, we will lose games as the thread gets older (like in 5 years from now, if this thread is still there, none of the games out there today will still qualify).

Lets say we change the timeframe 1.1.2007-31.12.2011 ?

I came here hoping to hear of a MMO worth playing already knowing there is none. All games mentioned here just don't suck as bad as others. We all know it.

So, the least sucking MMO in the past 5 years for me is - Rift (played for full 2 months)

Vanguard for me..only mmo that stands out has different..if it was'nt for the shitty launch who knows how popular this game would have become..and also Lotro for the awsome storyline and the damn brilliant community on the laurelin server.

  • csthaocsthao Member UncommonPosts: 1,122

Yup, Vanguard for me as well. I have been pondering if I wanna get back in it.

Best Foundation for a unsupported game:  Vanguard

    Best Supported Game:  Rift

  • XthosXthos Member UncommonPosts: 2,740

Vanguard, last MMO I really liked, and in my top 5...

I pretty much didn't buy/sub a MMO since I left, till Rift, and I paid for 6 months, played around 3 of them...Shortest time I ever played a game I bought....Well until now, don't think SWTOR is going to make it to the end of this month....I am on here reading, rather than playing...I was hoping it would last me till TSW or GW2.  Probably no suprise though, only played WoW beta and didn't dig it either, so I never subbed.

LoTRO - For community, RP, and lore

Rift - For gameplay and overall polish

Vanguard is everything I wanted, on paper, but it failed to execute and perform in any meaningfully polished way for me.

Everything else has been uninspired drek.  The worst has been SWTOR.  Its unbelievably shocking at how bad that game is from my perspective.

EQII for me - awesome game which I'm back to. SWTOR sucks donkey's nuts.

Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.

    Vanguard

I guess it have to be Rift, sad as it is. Or TOR, they are about as good both of them (3/5 in my opinion).

The last 5 years have been rather bad with MMOs in my taste.

But I have hope for the future at last, the next 5 years will bring us GW2, WoDO, Class 4, TSW, Copernicus, AA and whatever Bethesda is making. Compared to how things looked 5 years ago it looks like things finally are changing. :)

Yeah... Can´t you people count to 5? EQ2 released autumn 2004, 7 1/2 years ago...

LOTRO is barely making it with 4 years and 9 months. Anything older than it is just out.

Unless the SWTOR dev crew makes a dramatic change to design philosophy - SWTOR will just have more to suck in 7 1/2 years. More Raids and more hamster wheel grinds for gear. No thank you.

Game co's now are going the safe and simple route ands also for the very casual player and they make money so you can't blame them. Sort of like bands like the Rolling Stones and other older bands still producing as compared to bands now - old bands = good and long lasting....new bands = suck and fade away. Newer MMO's are in the latter category.

I mean...do you really think you'll have bands from today celebrating a 50th anniversary tour? I didn't think so :)

Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.
