To all those considering trying RIFT again do it. I came back after being away almost a year and am loving it. It really is a much better finished product then most of the MMO's out there. Trion is doing a great job. The end game is where it's at. If you have doubts, just try the first 20 levels free trial they're offering right now then make your decision. I based mine after a free weekend offer.
I recently hit level 50 in SWTOR and was overall disappointed in the immersion, scale, and freedom in the game. It all comes back to grinding for rewards to earn gear. Rift was recommended to me and i've begun playing the trial, and so far i'm enjoying it. Can some experienced folks enlighten me on the mid to end game content and quality of the game? Is there a lot of unique group and raid dungeons, as well as world pvp?
How are the play areas in terms of scale? Large? Heavily instanced? From what i've seen so far the starter area looks pretty linear but i've moved on to the next which seems larger, so that looks promising.
Thanks folks.
I just started this game after i found out my card WILL support it and it does beautifully in fact. I played the demo first until level 7 (that was before the 1.7 came out, like JUST before the patch) and i was very pleased. I thought mistakenly that their Rift system wasn't affected by npcs and that they were perfectly timed events but evidently they are affected by npc's and can in fact be challenged to a small degree (although i doubt they close the rifts) in the open world. (depends on the area and the npcs) So while it doesn't have the promised dynamism of GW2 i have to say it is very close. The only things it doesn have are objectives to seal rifts or help seal rifts that don't involve blasting mobs to death in the process which is what GW2 will be taking to the next step in DE's.
Despite their linear questlines i have to say i am quite pleased by the performance of this game and imho (since im very opposed to the abuse of subscription only companies placed on their players) this game is the only one i actually feel deserves a monthly sub and I am happy to pay to play.
I would suggest anyone who's never played this to try it, and i would suggest if you are interested in getting to know how world events occur (the feel not the mechanics) then i would suggest this to anyone who's waiting for GW2.
i played WoW for 6 years then started playing ToR got a few characters to their 30's but it just did not fit well with me. Downloaded the Rift trial after 2 days bought the full game. i had a ton of fun in wow but WoW got boring. What i wanted was WoW with a twist and thats what RIFT gives me. I love raiding and they pump out some of the best PVE content around. Rifts keep things interesting espically if no one closes them and they open up over a capital city. Game has all the varity i have been looking for.

SWTOR and Rift are VERY similar style of games. Expect to see the same formula once you hit cap.
The good news is that Rift is now F2P up to level 20, forever. It's called "Rift Lite". Enjoy.
