I have always thought the actions of men the best interpreters of their thoughts. ~John Locke
I played SW:TOR in Beta and after release. I'm going through financial struggles and was left with no choice but to sell my gaming rig to a good friend for cash. That is the only reason I quit this game.
For the first time in my long MMORPG career (I'm 32 years old), for once I truly enjoyed the story-telling. I did enjoy some quests in other games, when I had the patience to sit around and read the text. But really? In this day and age (Can you even believe it's 2012??!) who wants to read text? Who wants to read text when you have thousands of quests? Not many are even written well, let alone worth the no-action/boring downtime it takes to wade through the B.S.
I don't consider BioWare's approach to story telling a "feature" of this game. I consider it the main attraction. The big deal. The center piece. Never have I been so involved in my characters story. His relationships. Never have I been so immersed into what is going on. Never have I enjoyed solo play as much as I enjoy team play.
I could go on and on. Believe me, I won't say anything you haven't heard. Yes, it's shares some stricking resembelence to other games, which is true for nearly EVERY game. Yes, it has a few bugs. Yes, it's lacking in end-game content but I only agree with that if you are the kind of player who hates to make alts and re-live a whole new story.
But what I really want to get out here are some cold hard and undeniable facts regarding words vs. actions.
I know that MMORPG has a "thing" where you like to love the underdog, the indie developer, the non-themepark open world, different, unique, bring something new to the table kind of game. I know you love your guild wars. But, you're words do not match your actions.
You have voted ST:TOR down into 26th place. OFC Guild Wars II gets #1 but you actually think that SW:TOR is not as good as the following games:
Vanguard (Really? I played it. It's horrible. I had high hopes too, but cmon. Dead horse)
Everquest II (8 Years old, nearly dead)
Dark Ages of Camelot (11 years old, nearly dead)
Anarchy Online (11 years old, you almost can't give this game away for free..which is what they do now)
Ryzom (Really? Seriously? The worst MMO I've ever played. I don't care if t's free and some french guys hobby)
Yet, with all of your lopsided and honestly, ignorant voting capabilities, you LOVE SW:TOR when it comes to your actions:
In the last 6 months you have created 2.27million hits on the SW:TOR page.
That's twice as many hits as the GW2 page.
That's more than both GW2 and Darkfall COMBINED.
Not only do your actions not match your B.S. voting, but you are consistently in love with clicking on SW:TOR. Even in the last month you are loving you some SW:TOR twice as much as GW2 and again, you read up on ST:TOR more than both GW2 and Darkfall COMBINED.
Apparently, whether you love or hate SW:TOR, it's definately an obsession.. either way

I think we are getting somewhere with this.

Actually, what it shows with me is that I have entirely too much free time at work. Not that I'm complaining about that but since we're discussing the relevance of all this...
When I read the title I thought this was going to be about something different.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
In the last 5 days you have created over 50 posts. Of those 50, 49 of them have been about SW:TOR.
It's an obsession and while you play SW:TOR, you don't exactly give it flying colors with your words. You are the precise demographic I focus on in this article. You couldn't be a more perfect text book example. You play it, but you don't give it the credit it deserves. I have too much free time at work as well. I work an odd shift though.. 10:30pm - 6:30am.
it show me that the SWTOR players spend more time in the forums then actually playing...
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
On the contrary, I give it the exact credit it deserves far as I'm concerned. The good and the bad. Just like I always do for the games I play. There isn't anything different going on here that I haven't done with games I've played in the past far as my posting history, posting frequency, or me being rather blunt about what I like and dislike about the game I am currently playing.

i dunno, i do not post that often. Too busy playing, but I had to respond to this
^ so many people here to defend.. yes I know people post at work but If I was playing and enjoying I would be on the official forums reading info on builds and class info(although options are so limited there's no much ot read).. It same thing over and over people can't see why people can sit here and talk down about this game yet some people seem to sit here and do nothing put praise it at all costs... why is one way ok and the other is not?

These games are looked upon differenty because they where not produced by the largest gaming company on the planet. So therefor they are given more leeway. Also those games where not marketed as heavily as SWTOR and none of those game have a game with the same IP that came before it (Except EQ2) to be compared to. Unfortunatly for SWTOR the game that came before was a "do whatever the hell you want" sandbox. People where expecting that same level of freedom and didn't get it.
They got a game that is very similar to Fable 3 in that everyone is playing a single player game in which you pay 15 bucks a month to watch other people run around also playing the same single player game... the only difference is that you can see the player models rather than just balls of light.
You are correct in saying that many of us are passionatly negative about this game. Once a new MMO hits then the hate will die down as many of us will have something to do then.
Venting here about the game staves of boredom and is a way to cope with the dissappointment.
Many people had the same idea Star wars ip + Bioware + Massive budget = Amazing, blow my mind with innovation (there is that word again), next generation MMO
What actually happened was Star wars ip + Bioware + Massive budget = WoW clone with lots of cutscenes.

It's more then a simple disappointment for most, people really thought this game was going in a new direction both because of the IP and because of the company but instead they put out a poorly managed game in which it couldn't even be called an mmo due to the gamebreaking bugs and rather large portions of features missing from the game that every other title that's made by a large scale company has put into their game. The problem isn't the players at all unless you are counting those who will pay for anything so long as it has Star Wars stamped on it somewhere.
So why not post disappointments when they occur? what exactly is wrong with posting why we didn't like something about a game on a game forum? I don't get it. Aren't these forums for open and honest discussion?
In six months time if they keep up with their promised bug fixes and feature requests imo they'll be able to call their game an mmo, until then i wouldn't go near the game personally.
Edit: these questions were directed at the OP btw.
Oh come on.. everyone likes a train wreck don't they?
Honestly, I couldn't care less if SWTOR fails or not.. but the drama is fun to read. I mean, lots of people like to watch soaps on TV where actors pretend to argue and fall out with each other constantly in new and inventive ways. As avid MMO fans, why wouldn't we keep an eye on this forum?
Some of us are obsessed with drama, not SWTOR in particular!
Basically.
Not sure why some feel it is any different with this game. Pretty much seems the same old schtick as other launches. Plenty of morsels for those that enjoy the show and theatrics.

I have been around this forum for quite a while. I have never seen anything like what goes on with this particular game.
Since Jan 16 I have received 3 warnings and a temp ban all due to postings about this game. Although sarcastic, I was even quite accurate in things I said.
I'm done with it. It's the greatest game ever. I love it.
OP, if it makes you feel any better, you don't need a gaming rig anymore. You have already reached the pinnacle.
It really is which is very fun to watch.

you're surprised that people are on a subforum of a game they enjoy discussing/praising a game they enjoy? LOL you're a funny person.
I mean really? you can't be serious first you want people banned for praising the game and then you are surprised fans of the game are on a forum dedicated to the game. talk about grasping at straws.
I can answer the underlined question since i bring it up quite a bit. the big difference is that YOU (and others) should find a game you enjoy and go talk about that game with fans of that game instead of stalking every positive post on the SWTOR forums a game you obviously don't like (which is fine by the way I am not saying you're wrong for not liking SWTOR).
but hey its your free time as someone posted out in another just don't be surprised when people like me laugh at people like you.
I think that you have the right Idea. I too have experienced the judgement of the the ban hammer. Maybe we should come up with like a code words or something. Like instead of ability delay we can call it "ability enhancement".
Anyways this is the greatest game ever made.... its slick, next gen graphics are head and shoulders abover everything out there. The character customazation, the high resolution graphics, the tight controls, the beautiful UI, the world class voice acting, and compelling, believable cutscenes all ensure that no other game needs to ever be released after this.
My only dissapointment is that EA didn't advertise using fake protesters or commercials showing how disgusted old ladies are with the game.
I can't wait for them to add more classes like the Jedi/Stith dru... er shapeshifter, the mo... err martial artist, and the necr.... err i mean droid master.
Soooo excited!

I haven't really seen many people here on this site doing as you say in orange. I see many claim that's what people are doing, but not much in the way of people actually glossing over the short comings many others point out. They may not agree, but that's something different entirely.
I also hate the term "defend" as a description of what these people are doing, it's called countering a point, or giving your own impression. Which is why we're all here to begin with. It also implys the otherside is here to "attack" TOR. Which is just as wrong of an assessment, as they're also just offering their opinion of the game.
Using this wording to me is placing far too much importance on why we're here talking about TOR. As for the why aren't people somewhere else rather than here? I can only speak for myself, but aside from my guilds forum (where I get my build info etc..) this is the only forum I've visited on a regular basis for the last few years. I'd be here regardless of TOR.
For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson
maybe praise wasn't the best choice of words.. but its pretty obvious some people stances on this game good or bad and nothing you say or they say makes any difference to the fact.. the thing that bothers me is the people who write there 1-2 page review of the game and how they are displeased with a laundry list of examples yet all the so called "hardcore fans" or whatever you want to call them do nothing but troll the threads saying how game is fine and go back to wow and such.. I know it goes both ways but i just wish the big fans of the game would be more descriptive with there views on the game because most here are not.

Sarcastic? You? No. LOL
Personally Im here because its really amusing in here.
So many damn weird topics and discussions going on, threads that goes "This game killed my granny!!1!eleven!" and "Leave SWTOR alone dammit!!!!1!" I dont really care one way or another if i get SWTOR more "hits" or whatever.
Oh and let my make a wild guess here OP; you're posting this at work, where you're apparently not really needed..?
*joking btw, no need to rage*
Most people who enjoy the game are doing exactly that.
As of right now there are 196,696 post in the SWTOR General Discussion forum, that's total since 2008. Even if we said that everyone subscribed posted 1 message in here we'd still have over 1.5 MILLION people who never posted here. Of course, that's not even close to the reality of the situation.
The reality is you get the same 100-200 people complaining endlessly about the game and then they think "Man, how can anyone defend this game and say it's good. Practically everyone agrees with me that it's awful, look at all the negative posts! What a trainwreck!"
This is true, to a lesser extent, of the official forums too. When companies say the forum populations are a very small part of the player base they mean it.
cuz there is nothing to do besides rolling alts, i got suckered into paying for 1 more month cuz of a friend. he made it sound soooooo god dam good cuz of the patch. then i realized hes all about raiding and questing. he never pvps.
OWNED. oh well, 15 bucks isnt much, i spend that much on lunch every day =.=

Your logic is impeccable. Let's try an experiment: type Adolf Hitler in google and then Mother Teresa. Look the results number. What is your conclusion?
i would of gone with gandhi and his number is a lot closer than mother teresa
