Want Minecraft, yet can't afford it? What Notch has to say...

. "Notch's response? "Just pirate it. If you still like it when you can afford it in the future, buy it then. Also don't forget to feel bad. ;)"

That's what I would have said too. He has the right mentality.

    I would've said "tough".

Well I think that mentality is ok for his game, the fun is in being able to be part of a minecraft community, with multiplayer and mods...so eventually most would buy his game. I don't think it would be good for a strongly singleplayer game like the Mass Effect series, because the fun is in playing singleplayer, so after you pirate it and enjoyed the main fun, most won't see a need in purchasing it later.

I would have said, "Tough" as well. He's made his money though, probably more than he ever expected. Minecraft is in the position of Windows 3.1 way back when. It's really good when people buy it, but if people pirate it, it just means a much larger install base. When the game gets an upgrade or a new version, it's that many more people who will legitimately buy it.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Its an easy thing to say when he knows its going to happen anyway. It makes the gamer go "Hey I like him" which wins him popularity. Smart on his part. As to the actual need to say it? None at all. Again, if someone was going to pirate it because they cant afford it they already have. If they cant afford it and havent gotten a free version they probably dont know how or where to look.

Who can't afford Minecraft? The only people that can't are allowanceless kids and people with no form of electronic debit/credit. Both can be easily fixed with a phonecall, or sincere talk with mommy.

funny thing, i torrented minecraft beta 4 i think or was it version 5.1 its been so long now.

i tried it and liked it. even though it was purely SP as none of the illegal versions i ran across allowed MP which was fine. it gave me a reason to buy the game which i now have.

the 100% free creative version they have on the site sucks as its basicly alpha 1.0  even the creative in 1.1 is worlds better.

but ultimtately the best value out of minecraft is the MP/mods having stuff like tales of kingdoms or millienair for a starter you just cant get with a torrented version

but really though people will pirate it regardless. im glad i torrented it as i hated the free creative on the site.. i thought it was shat.  though now the game is more costly (should have bought it sooner lazy people) but its still avg price for games
