Any active fantasy MMOs with a playable evil faction?

Perditious_CPerditious_C Member Posts: 4

I'm having a difficult time trying to find an active fantasy-based MMORPG, especially one with an active RP community, that lets your character fight for an explicitly evil faction/entity. Much like Chaos from Warhammer, I wish to play a faction bent on the unmaking of the mortal realm, particularly one that serves some evil deity/lord, and being generally dark and sorcerous. (Unfortunately, due a deficit in popularity, WAR is no longer viable as an option with open and active role-play. Especially after they nixed the RP servers, leaving only Core and RvR)

If anyone knows of such a game, I'd greatly appreciate a response.

Everquest 2 is a good option. Can be good neutral or evil.

Sounds worth a look. Of course all but a handful of neutral races and basic classes are available in the free version of EQ2. Also, how is the RP on EQ2? Is it as relatively lively as an MMO like WoW?

Thought of looking into MUD's?  http://www.achaea.com would be a good point of interest if you can use your imagination to provide graphics instead of a bloated client :)

I haven't really felt evil in any MMO's yet. The funny part is that, the evil side always seems to have the nicest community while the "good guys" consist of moaning 12 year olds

No kidding. I'm sure there's some psycological basis behind it, I wouldn't know of it. It really is a shame that WAR is fading away, nothing has ever been quite as maligned and "grim-dark" as the forces of Chaos from Warhammer Fantasy and 40k. Once you go Chaos, all other evil seems 'diet'.

On another note, I've given consideration to MUDs and I think I could get into that. Not sure if there's a popular Warhammer MUD, I might have difficulty easing into mythos I'm unfamiliar with.

    I recommend http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/722/Achaea.html

You can join Mhaldor, the City of Evil (it's entirely player ran) and there are 4 Houses (guilds) that exist within Mhaldor. Mhaldor worships two Evil gods, Apollyon and Shaitan. The RP is pretty strict and definitely evilllll.

My experience on the roleplaying servers in EQ2 was that RP was more often found within a guild than randomly on the streets.  I think this tends to be common in most MMOs, but Lord of the Rings Online and Star Wars Galaxies are notable exceptions. I think Antonia Bayle (the larger of the two RP servers, and the one I played the least on) had more open events, but I'm less familiar with it.

So if you find yourself a decent guild, I think you'll have a good experience.  I loved my time in EQ2 - met some awesome RPers there.

If I had the time than I would make an RP blog that is a Darkfall journal done with mostly videos and tell of my journey as if it was a story. The gameplay and look of the game makes really cool videos since there are no floating names and other crap all over the screen . ... here are some examples of cool videos:

    Hunter

    Battle of One

    Orc Hermit

    Ultannek Family

I dont understand why RPers flock to themepark games when they can have a unique experience and make their own quests in sandbox games. You can be very evil in this game but all factions are player-made.

Everquest 2 on the Antonia Bayle has a very strong RP community.  Yes you can play on the evil faction, and there are even evil only guilds.  There is a lot of RP, and no it's not all in guild halls.  Most guilds have what are called Taverns which is player housing converted to a tavern (recently went to one based on a Dojo where players were doing actual PvP in a role play setting, not spoken flip a dice RP dueling, but actual game mechaninc PvPing.  These are open to all players, not just guild members and can be found in the in-game chat channel RPLFG.  Something going on almost everyday.  And the game is F2P
