Dunno if other people played the GW beta weekends. But in those you'd get access to 5-6 PvE areas and the city hub Lion's Arch. You didn't even start at where GW started, with pre-searing or post-searing Ascalon, but areas that were all mid-level of the game. Was stil great fun, also it made the start of the game feel fresh and new since you hadn't seen it yet in the beta weekends.
They said the beta in March and April would be like the GW beta weekends, so I expect it'll also be a limited number of areas, not the whole world, just like former betas only maybe now some more areas.

I actually prefer that. It gives you a taste of the game without actually giving it all away. At the same time, it allows the testers to concentrate on a particular zone and features.
Some of you may still be confused. How can a beta only take place at a specific part of the game?

Long long ago, in a galaxy far far away, beta tests were not just places where players got to play the game early and spread hype. They actually involved testing... of the beta...
What this means is that the beta testers would be given access to something specific and asked to do something... over... and over... and over... and over... ad nauseum.
Or they would have access to a specific zone, specific dungeon, etc...
What most people think of as beta (hey, here is the game... play as much as you want and let us know if you have any problems) was either a stress test or more about promotion and getting people hyped. It was late beta vs. early beta.
I don't know if GW is doing limited testing to focus on specific things, or if they are limiting the content to keep people hyped and keep them from getting burned out on content before it even comes out... What I do know is that I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. So far everything I've heard from them, everything I've heard about them, and everything I've heard and seen from third parties who have actually seen their stuff tells me that they are doing it right...
When you say "The Beta wait is almost over" I wish it meant that beta testing was almost complete and release is in a couple weeks, not the beta is almost ready to start.

That will noise you heard previously today, that was the sound of the few writers, websites, and reviewers getting click beta invites to guild wars 2! It seems that they’ll just about all be under an NDA and not able to release information about the actual press event until ArenaNet lets. To clarify a minor, they’ll be able to liberate the information about this press play through only (this doesn't mean the NDA will be lifted for testers or any extra events).
I like getting into a Beta for any game! With that said, I would probably smile a whole lot more having the opportunity to beta Guild Wars 2.. I've waited for this game for a very long time. I really enjoyed the first Guild Wars and the various flavors that were added after it's first launch.
I love a great MMORGP. I only hope and from what I've read Guild Wars 2 is leaving the "normal" theme park ride and venturing on a new set of game styles. To be able to really fill out my character and not have be just the flavor of the day is very intriguing.
