Rift 1.7 is the first disappointment

GrayGreeneGrayGreene Member Posts: 239

Still talk very highly of this streamlined themepark, but 1.7 is no friend of those who enjoy leveling up in warfronts.  Everything is tilted toward end game players and premades.  I was just getting to know players from different shards in PUGS (which is what most of us who work a lot in  RL end up playing)  but now its random and each warfront seems to have a different team.  It's fast que time, but now we give up socialbility and teamwork.

I have been told that once i hit 50 and start playing with pre-mades I will enjoy the changes.  I hope that is right.  But as for now, my mage can no longer use archmage and I went from hero to the guy wondering why the hell a team isnt fighting together.

I'm beginning to think the mmorpg genre has no longer simply become stagnant.  It's working its way downward into an ultra casual abyss of simplicity.  Also, not sure why 1.7 decided to increase the power of rogues even more.  As soon as i master a rotation or custom build, new patch changes everything.  If the majority of players enjoy 1.7 then I stand with them, and remain happy for those who enjoy their game.  Rift is good quality, but it still doesnt seem stable in its vision.

Hence the issue some have with Look For Anything queues, it ruins an MMO IMO.  Also Rift excels in social media access with all the available direct links through the game for FB and Twitter.  I do not use them but it's pretty need.

Read a bunch of posts too about how true pvpers would simply adapt to the changes, especially concerning the mage souls.  But I put in so much hard work on customizing a build with added mobility only to end up with a situation where i have to completely relearn my character.  Its anti-productive and in no way a fun experience.  Now i feel like rerolling yet again, but then ill put in hard work to learn something else only to watch it change as well.  I have weak connection where i live and a less than powerful computer.  The hard work i put into customization included mobility as a major component.  I invested 0 points in pvp soul just for break free.  Now everyone has break free.  For some classes, this is more important than others.  Rogues for instance hav more options when it comes to synergy and abilities.  Mages are tougher to build.  Synergy is not the same.  Mobility was my key to successful pvp.  (and i was doing great)  I can appreciate the big boost warriors received and am glad they got some love finally in pvp.  But  1.7 was possibly a mis-step for Trion.  Streamlined is good, but I think I"ve evolved past the common simplicity this genre has adopted.

Whatever... MMORPGs always evolve or unevolve... it's always been that way.

As for your mage, I play a P8 (now P40) cleric and there's nothing more aggravating than being instantly killed or almost by a mage who's nukes just hit me for 3k,2k,2k,1.5k and ALL in one simple rotation that killed me in less than 1 secs (with my HoTs on!!)

AND I'm not gonna start talking about how mages could heal while KEEPING a very good dps burst... Clerics either HEALS or DPS... we couldn't do both in one build... and still can't. YOU sir, can't have everything.

Can't you mages understand that a 3k, 2k,2k and 1.5k nuke in about 1 or 2 seconds is TOO strong? NOW, live with it because with 1.7 the mages are now balanced. They still can do some serious damage. Don't QQ because you still can hurt people really bad.

Trust me, WE clerics got nerfed too, we have less mitigation (armor) and less spell crits. Before the patch I could run around in my full P8 PvP set with ~ 69% amor and 21% in dodge and parry. Now, It's down to ~44% armor in Justicar (tank build)

Also, Clerics were not "good" at DPSing... we're even worse now. I guess people were complaining about Clerics dpsing... but those clerics DPSing in either INQ or Cab couldn't heal and were relying on others to keep keep them alive. In these specs we have no survability skills or almost. Just glass canon, and I wouldn't call it "canon"

AND guess what, I won't complain and I'll adapt, because we didn't get nerfed to the point that we're no longer of any use or can't PvP anymore and I think you mages are in the same boat as us. Your mage still rock!

So sorry for the wall of text, I had to explain why they nerfed the mages.

As for the rogues, it's another story...

    Now playing : FFXIV
    Waiting on : TBD
Best MMORPGs played : EQ, FFXI

You complain about how the content is unbalanced? Between leveling and end game? Not sure if you're serious. There's only 4 classes to level,  takes 2 weeks to level. When you've been playing for 10 months like most of the people you don't really have options for leveling.

I got level 50 on my rogue alt a few days after 1.7. 1.7 is by no means a disappointment. My new level 50 can actually survive in battleground. Once you're level 50, you will really appreciate the new adjustments.

The new chronicle is the best one so far.

Not sure you read my post.  Still love Rift.  But you should read the post first. :)

Sorry, but I disagree entirely. You even said clerics were nerfed which shows how little you know.   We may not be playing the same game.  Clerics have always been the it class.  I am giving this more time, but not playing the same mage.  Mages are no longer viable as dps.  Anyone who doesn't get that isnt playing a mage.  You folks need to read posts and perhaps do some research before responding.  But this thread can die now since some responders are not reading OP, nor comprehending the nature of the criticism.   The mages role was changed dramatically.  But their damage was reduced by 15 percent and this is fact.  Take care though.  Least we have a company that uses our subscriptions to evolve their game.

*** also, just to reitierate clerics not healing while dpsing is an outright lie.  Clerics are the best at that.  Mages dont do very good damamge while healing.  You get one vialbe heal in bloom with 6 points in chloro.  Thats it.  Unless you go support, then you heal by doing damage but the damage is tiny.  You really have no clue.
