"Open" Games

TzaleTzale Member Posts: 143

Hi,

Are there any games that are like the game "Second Life" or "There?" I want to be able to build things, explore, conquer land etc. I never saw any games that were as "free" as this. If you know of any, please let me know. I haven't had a good MMORPG to play in a while now and my life is getting boring. hah.

What I am really looking for is a game that has a realistic world that you can interact with. Perhaps terraform the land, do whatever you want like you could in real life.

Does such a thing exist?

Thanks!

Actually Second Life and There are the only ones. There is more next generation and is going to be getting better building and scripting tools too. Also i'm expecting custom avatar animations soon. I suggest you go with There. There is really going to be getting a big and I mean big update soon.

I'm guessing late next month. It'll be what we've been hoping for. I hope you do pick There and if you like i'll show you around next time i'm in world. See ya in There!

A Tale in the Desert offers a great deal of Builder-style gameplay. It's not nearly as free as Second Life or There, but it is most certainly not your average MMOG clone.

I believe Saga of Ryzom is putting in some kind of way for players to make their own content with the next expansion.

He isn't look for any combat. You know that but you ignore his request for you to suggest a Virtual World. Just because you don't like a certain game doesn't mean you can't suggest one of them. Either There or Second Life...

Well There isn't fun anyways, full of fanboys and flamers..

The devs from The Saga of Ryzom are developing a tool where you can make your own world, that means villages or cities too. Then players can live in those when you put your map online..

He is looking for a game that is close to real life, and combat is part of real life. Also, by saying "conquering land" he implies that there would be some sort of conflict involved.

By the way, most games do have a virtual world. Your second sentence is completely irrelevant, and the last shows extreme narrow-mindedness (that's not even a word is it? :P) by implying that the only games he has a choice of are There and Second Life.

Really though, there aren't many games that I would consider "open." Other than There and Second Life, I suggest A Tale in the Desert.

You see There as boring because you don't understand the idea behind it. Over 85 Million dollors went into There from some of the biggest companies in the world. Like ATi, Levi Jones, iVillege.com, Astrology.com, Nike, and many more.

There is a Virtual World meant to bring people from around the world togehter. You meet people while you express and share ideas with the world around you. You can create nearly anything you want and thats a very compelling thing.

There has seen good and bad times, but though them all the community has come together and seen There though. We have advanced There's culture and creativity together. There is not a game, it is a real time Virtual World full of people who are very passionate about There.

What game have you played that has that kind of community? A community that respects each other and listens to each others ideas. We work together to see to that There is growing and thriving. We support each other when real life has us down and we stick together.

Because thats the only way There is going to grow. We have to work together to make There a better place for all. If we have a problem with someones build we express that and we work together to come up with a solution.

There isn't a game nor a chat room. It is a community that is building the next generation Virtual World. We work together, though thick and thin to welcome new members and to make There a better place. Thats the kind of community There has and thats the kind of world There is.

Let me get this right u play a computer game togo to work everyday and feed ur character and make something better of ur character in this virtual worlds that resembles real life? Why not acctually try working irl and getting a decent job and acctually furthering urself instead of playing in a "virtual world" which to me seems pointless. Dont u play games to escape the "real world" for a few hours....

Actually I go into There after work. I have a good job, I get paied over 500 a week. I have nice house which isn't too big or too small. Its not a life simulator as you might think. Its more like a canvas where you build and create your ideas.

The members of There are in a way the real developers and artists. We are creating what There is and we have a fair amount of power over the world itself. I go into There because I enjoy it and because all my co-workers are in There.

Mainly all my real life friends play There now. I am planning on opening a night club in There soon. There is what you make it to be. For some they make money off of There and for others it is just for enjoyment. You guys have your stuff and I have mine.

Joel why don't you tell us again what programs and knowledge you actually need to build something in There? You never mention that because the average person doesn't have the tools or skills to actually modify There.

  • ianubisiianubisi Member Posts: 4,201

This is not a "There" topic. Let it go, already.

To build you need to download Gmax It is a modified version of 3Ds Max. It is fairly easy to use but many people come into There with no modeling skills and end up being the top designer for a week. University of There has classes on Gmax often.

To create clothing you need a graphical editer to modify the template. Mainly Photo Shop but MS paint works too. Since There is PG 13 all objects go though a submission process. It takes only an hour or so. After that the objects are given to you to sell or auction.
