Too many of these threads already, Guild wars is great fun, i play it... it wont keep you playing 7+ hours a day for months like other MMORPGs will... then again neither will WoW. Guild wars is great for the price and the community isnt that bad. Most MMORPGs these days seem to have awfull communities.

    - Guild Wars is fun short term, then fairly boring

    - WoW is less fun but for a longer time

well thats just my opinion, both games are good but in their own way. Only you can decide which type you prefer.

I basically agree with the first poster.  Guild Wars has the advantage (real and the psychological effects of that reality) of not putting any pressure at all on the player to play every day due to the lack of monthly fees.  I have never felt so free to play or not play any other MMORPG.

WOW is just about as shallow as GW - neither is deep and meaningful.  Neither has an award winning crafting system to enjoy.  WOW merely REQUIRES more time be spent to advance than GW.

You choose but I can tell you that you WILL tire of each - in about the same amount of time - but the "boredom" will come at a less expensive price with GW compared to WOW (due to no monthly fee).

    Choose and perish.

    ugh I vote neither.

If your a fan of pvp neither.
If your a fan of crafting Neither.
If you want to be forced into a 40 man instance group to have a slight chance of getting a nice piece of gear then wow is for you. Thats the endgame you have to look forward too. Im not fond of there pvp as Im not terribly fond of Guild wars pvp. Its not open free for all--its arena......with arena time limits of sorts.

I have three solid suggestions for games--

Saga of Ryzom has a free trial and many people "really" enjoy that game.

Asherons Call (not to be confused with ac2) is still going strong and everyone agrees its a very fun game.

Star wars galaxies is also going strong and is a very enjoyable game.

Dont even waste your times on the free games--there free for a reason.

    Hope those suggestions help.

First, why cannot people keep to the topic request?  He specifically asked for help deciding between two games - he did not ask for nor probably wanted a discertation on your favorites.

Second, SWG is horrible (IMO) and is as boring (if not more so) than WOW or GW.  Saga of Ryzom is also a horrible game - slow, boring, tedious in the extreme.  AC might still be viable but there IS a reason (to use your own logic) that it is near the bottom of the barrel in terms of people playing the game.

He said he was in need of guidance.
    I gave him guidance.

"a discertation on my favorites"?? .....................mmm yeah ok whatever.

If I came on the forums and asked whats better RYL or Knight online and someone told me that both of those games were awful, I would appreciate and expect that opinion. I think wow and gw are way too hyped up and I recomended some games that dont get as much recoginition as I think they deserve

Your opinion of swg is just that--your opinion.

Just because everyone and there mother doesnt play asherons call 1, doesnt imply its a worse game than guildwars or world of warcraft. If these smaller companies would continue to advertise and hype there games like EQ did so wonderfully, the subscriptions to the game would keep coming in and the games would stay at the top of the list as far as subscribers go.

Sadly I dont beleive there is a great mmo out there right now.
There are alot of games in production and its my hope that at least 1 or two of them live up to the hype and make a truly groundbreaking mmo-- ie darkfall, roma victor, Pirates of the burning sea.

First - he said he wanted thoughts on choosing between TWO games (specifically WOW and GW).  He did NOT ask for a generalized discussion on games or automobiles or time of day.  Two games - that is all.

If I ASK people to help me choose between two items in a class (games for example) I EXPECT and WANT them to do just that - NOT to muddy the decision with OTHER items in the class.

Now, as to the AC issue.  YOU made the basic statement about "free" games being worthless as simply judged by the fact they were free.  So it follows then that you SHOULD also believe that any game with little or no following must also be bad - for the same basic reasoning you used for the "free" games.  I agree, it does not necessarily follow - but it also does not necessarily follow that just because a game is free it must be worthless.  A game having "worth" has no direct relationship to the fee it charges.

Ok I was nice and I explained myself very respectfully. Enough is enough!
    Quit flaming me asshat!

Your not even talking about the game now are you?
Your more OFF TOPIC THAN I MAY HAVE BEEN.

Id like to hear from the initial author of this post if hes even offended or if he appreciated my 2 cents.

Maybe I missed something but it seems like you're the only one doing the flaming.

OK-- this is the last thing Im writing about this seeing as how its completely counter productive to the initial post.

Initial poster asks which game he should get into WoW or Guildwars.
Ive played both of those games and think there are MUCH better games out there so I voted neither and gave him my 2 cents.

Then I get the "why cant people stick with the" ...yeah whatever.

I explained myself and again got more grief---totally off topic.

I dont see how "stop flaming me" counts as a flame?

If the original poster gets back to read the responses I would still like to know if hes completely offended and wronged as I didnt give him the EXACT answer he was looking for.

    Asshat counts as a flame.
Or at least its the closes thing to a flame between you two.

MMM Logangregor did not stray off topic here. The original poster asked for advice on which game to choose. Logan, having played both games, gave his opinions on each game, stating each's own weaknesses and strong points. Honestly he probably helped the original poster more by posting his response than any fanboy would have that praised one of the games and made up a bunch of false facts about a game just to get more people to play it with him. Just my thought on it though.

If ive allready decided that im going to play game A or game B and asked which would others choose between the two thats the kind of answer I want. Not a continuous discussion of the mmorpg landscape and every fanboys favorite game.

Back on topic, never played WoW so wont comment on it, as for Guild Wars, its a decent game, but like someone else replied it gets old rather quickly, its cheap with no monthly fee, but with that youre getting much less of a game than a typical mmorpg.

Saga of Ryzom has the coolest community ive run accross. Seems like an older crowd and why not take advantage of a free trial. There are other games that offer a free trial too that are good. Check out the game list. Sort it by ratings and check out some free trials. I play WOW, Guild Wars (only cause its free, If I had to pay a monthly I would not), Saga of Ryzom (weird game, hard to put down). I have Anarchy Online loaded cause the first part of game is free. Face of Mankind cause its free beta and interesting. Have had but dumped more than I wanna even think about. Definatley getting Auto Assault when it comes out. But if you just want to pick between Guild Wars and WOW, I like WOW cause the details in the game that are lacking in Guild Wars. An example is you never run out of ammo in guild wars. I dont see much of a trading community where WOW has a pretty well done economic structure to it and a lot of unique character upgrade potential. Good luck.

This post is intentionally written as to not make any sense what so ever. Thank You Very Much.

Sorry guys if i interupted your discussion about hell knows what, I said i want your advise on choosing which whan do you thin is better, not beeter or worst than others, but compared to each other. I`m linkink to WoW becouse i realy liked Warldcraft, and the grafics, its just escape from reality, sometimes you just want to escape... But main thing is what i`m wondering is about pvp system. I`m wondering about all things like PvP, PK, PvM, Solo, and such, and it all coms from WoW or GW, not from some galaxy far far away...::::39::

Ps. Sorry for my gramar, i not native englishman::::01::

I'd go with WoW if you something a Little more long term. Neither will keep you playing for very long. It's hard to compare them because guild wars isn't really an mmo (not meant as a flame, but it's just true.) Both communities are lacking, but i'm betting the rougher crowd is in the free game. for character customization, Wow is the winner vs guild wars. You pretty much get what you pay for. One time fee of $50, you get maybe a month's worth of fun. But if you're a casual player it should be great.

If your dead set on picking one of those games-- Id have to say world of warcraft.

Im not a fan of the grind and Im not completely in love with the style of pvp but all in all its a well put together game. Endgame pvp is better than the small battlegrounds because lvl 60 alterac valley is a much longer pvp experience--whereas the lowby capture the flag games take a while to actually get into and dont last very long.

Warriors with some epic gear are very overpowered...there burst dps and sustained dps is just insane.
Personally I play a warlock as I feel its the hardest class to play well for pvp --Period.

I played both GW and WOW. WOW is about a hundred times better, but theres a monthly fee. I recommend you to get GW.
  • ElnatorElnator Member Posts: 6,077

Neither, if you absolutely want to stay with Fantasy get EQ2... it's got more depth and longevity than either of them. WoW you'll be bored with by the time you get to 50 or so... then you'll make another character and hit 50 or so again and you'll get bored. Eventually you'll have 3 or 4 level 50-60 toons and realize that the game is just boring at high level.

Then you'll be looking for another game.

GuildWars is a nice '2nd' game or 'alternative' game... I wouldn't reccommend it as someone's primary MMO though. I have it, and play from time to time, but it's not something I care enough about to log in regularly. It's just not all that fun.

If you're interested in Sci-Fi get SWG or EVE online.

If you want to go with a good classic game and slightly dated graphics don't bother you then try AC (not AC2) or DAOC.

    Good luck!
