Mobile gaming coming of age...

BrenelaelBrenelael Member UncommonPosts: 3,821

With the nVidia Tegra processors becoming more the standard in mobile devices especially in Tablets mobile gaming has really started to catch up to consoles and maybe even PCs. With Rockstar releasing GTA III, EA releasing NFS: Hot Pursuit and NFS: Shift on the Android market for Tegra 2 powered devices it got me thinking... Why haven't other developers done similar things with some of their older games? Imagine Daggerfall or Morrowind on your Tablet or Smartphone! There is a goldmine just waiting to be tapped in the mobile market place for decent games. These developers are already sitting on a pile of older titles that could be adapted to the Tegra format. If Rockstar could get the entire GTA III game on to mobile there is no reason any other game from the same era couldn't be converted as well. Just my 2 cents.

well, there is a pretty good MMORPG with WoWish graphics out already

it's called Order and Chaos...costs 6$ and 1$/month after your free trial (3 months) expires

it's quite fun too, but doesn't have nearly as many features as WoW unfortunately.

I review lots of indie games and MMORPGs

Yep got order & chaos on my iphone and it's really good and polished for a mobile game. But try playing it for a couple of hours and you go blind ha.

There's an enormous difference between tablets and cell phones.  Cell phones will remain rather gimpy for gaming purposes for a variety of reasons.  The small form factor can't dissipate much heat or fit a decent sized battery.  It also means a tiny screen that is hard to see well.

For tablets, on the other hand, you can already buy a tablet that can run a considerable fraction of the games on this site.  When tablets based on AMD's "Tamesh" APU show up in about a year, you'll likely be able to run most of the games on this site on a tablet.  Even for non-Windows operating systems, Qualcomm Krait and ARM Cortex A15 are going to bring huge advances in processor power this year.
