So.....no news about WOD then. He actualy said nothing of consequence about it. I was hoping for some news, but this wasn't it.
Well, the news were that the rumors about it just having a skeletal crew isn´t true and that they still work hard on it so it wasn´t a total bummer.
Well, i hope they're done wi EVE dammage control, and after Dust launch, WOD will get some front burner action. A different, and interesting MMO would be a refreshing change alot of people are looking for.
Propaganda nothing more. They got burned with their whole monocle and Incarna debacle and had to lay off 20% of their total staff (including much of the Georgia team that was supposedly working on WoD). This is nothing more than an attempt at hyping "awesome!" to the public. Given CCP's track record of promising the moon and delivering a car park with their EVE expansions, I wouldn't expect WoD to be anything like what they claim. EVE isn't and they've had 10+ years at it.
Huh? So first I hear about World of Darkness being developed by a skeleton crew and now I hear that it is in fact being given the love and care it deserves, with some small parts of the game being playable.
I'll be excercising cautious optimism on this title, whilst I wait for some gameplay footage this year.
“We have a kick ass ninja-team focused on the game.”
That explains it. They hired ninjas. They are awesome. Thats a lot better then a crew of skeletons.

Ninjas > Skeletons any day, yeah!
I could be wrong, but a drop of 20% manpower is a big deal for a company like this. Having been in a company myself that did the same thing, I can tell you the quality of the product suffers greatly from this kind of "skeleton crew". On top of that his whole "ninja" statement is industry speak for a small but skilled team. All the skill in the world does not make up for the lack of people to actually do the developmental work. I have some high hopes for this game, but my expectations are in the gutter.
"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"
Good luck with your little supernatural-modern-world title CCP. Meanwhile I will be playing these first-to-market games. We'll see if your late offering will draw me away from them.
It's kinda funny, you apparently not knowing what World of Darkness is. CCP gets extra points for owning White Wolf so there can be no questions about them raping the lore.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.
Afaik CCP's stance on WoD development has always been that they are waiting for "technology to advance" to the point where they can deliver a unique game experience. What that really means is that they are waiting until the average PC can run the game the way they want to build it.
I'm happy to wait. EVE is currently the only mainstream game that delivers anything that can be described as a "virtual world" or "sandbox". Until some other developer launches a game that matches what EVE delivers, my money is still on CCP when it comes to sandbox gameplay.

It's based on a tabletop rpg game by White Wolf - quite popular actually... with conventions and such... so yeah. I think they just might do fine with their already established audience for World of Darkness.
Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.
I think CCP can deliver on both Dust and WoD. In Eve Online they have one of the best MMO's to date that has been going strong since 2003. If there is any developer company out there that can say they know their player base its CCP. And seem to be the only ones that truely listen to the customers rather than the accountants.
I do know that they are looking at a perma death system for WoD which has already got me intrested on how they implement this. As a player of Eve Online and a RPG fan of the WoD I am looking forward to it.

you do know that WOD is not gonna be a normal mmo they are aiming at getting the EvE feeling into the game so you are entering a virtual world just like EvE so have fun...
Am I the only one who thought this article sucked. It was basically Dust comes out this summer and hey we are still working on WoD. Nothing really indepth that deserved an article really.
--When you resubscribe to SWG, an 18 yearold Stripper finds Jesus, gives up stripping, and moves with a rolex reverend to Hawaii. --In MMORPG's l007 is the opiate of the masses. --The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence! --CCP could cut off an Eve player's fun bits, and that player would say that it was good CCP did that.
I dont have a good feeling with Dust 514, it just looked like a disaster waiting to happen. First off, PS3 only? I understand CCP wanted to tap into the console market, but restricting to only one console is just not a good move. Second FPS will always be better with keyboard + mouse.
BF-series sets the standard for online MP, I dont think Dust can meet that.
It was just announced yesterday that Dust 514 will support mouse/keyboard. There goes half your argument.
Until they promise it will be impossible to get into and not fun , and hated by the vast majority of it's incredibly small amount of players because of all the broken promises the devs made like Eve, i am not interested!
I for one refuse to play WoD until they add the other 5 factions that made the roleplaying game fun. Hunters, Werewolves, Mages, Fae, Wraiths. It's the principle of the matter. Sure vampires are fun but cmon, that's not the only thing that made their book/dice game great!
There had been some misinterpretation of information previously released by CCP. This article was meant to correct people's misperceptions.
It was thought that, because of the layoffs and renewed focus on EVE, work on WoD had been diminished or even stopped, but if people had actually read the original article in its entirety, they would have seen that development, in fact, continued unabated, and there would be no need for this rehash of the facts. Most of the jobs that were lost were not even in the realm of core programming or graphic design.

Well, you have to start somewhere and Vampire have always been white wolfs best seller.
IF they would have released the game with 5 factions from start they either would have to dumb down them a lot and to make the content for each faction very thin.
It is better to start with 1 or 2 and to add the rest later, I still hope they get in hunters from launch though. Personally have mages always been my favorites but if I were CCP I would still first do vampires followed by mages and then werewolfs.
Wraith never was that popular, I am not sure they ever will add that, even Changling is not really a must.
Vampires, werewolf and mages together with hunters would be more than enough for a really great MMO.
This can be interesting, maybe at least CCP will have enough courage to create something original AND high quality. I just hope they won't forget about fun aspect as they did with EVE
I'd wager that MMORPG.com contacted CCP to discuss EVE winning player's choice for 2011 and while MMORPG.com had CCP on the phone they talked about CCP looking forward in 2012. Of course CCP is going to discuss it's projects and put them in the best light possible but CCP probably wasn't going out of it's way to contact MMORPG.com just to hype their 2012 stategy. Keep this in mind as you read the article and it will be easier to swallow.
WoD wasn't killed by the 20% lay offs as seen in this press release:
The real story here is David Reid becoming CCPs chief marketing officer, I mean, look at what he did for a lesser game like Rift, and yes, it's a lesser game, just look at MMORPG.com's Player's choice award for 2011 if you don't believe me
"Lectroids? Planet 10? Nuclear extortion? A girl named "John"?
ya whaterver ccp just make a good game wheneverr you decide to release it bold pronouncements mean very little to most gamers we have heard a lot of boasts very few deliver
*if its a great game i will play it but sorry not gonna ride the hype wave in the meantime

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

Wish all the best to CCP
Really excited to see how well DUST will do and how it will influence EVE. I hope it is successful and I hope it influences futures game devs.
This is the first time two different genre will meet in the same universe over different gaming platforms and U can't wait to see the results!

You are both missing the point entirely.

If there is any developer left i can trust in loving what they are doing then it´s CCP.
You can´t tell me that SWOTOR is what the devs of bioware would have done if management
would have allowed them to realize their visions.
CCP are making games because they have a vision of their perfect game and they earn money with it.
Most other studios just make games to earn more money, Valve, CCP and Paradox. You are the best.
(Especially EA will never ever release a game just because they wanted to do it regardless of how many money it will deliver)

Talk is cheap, anyone can talk. CCP dominating 2012? ummm nope sorry.

@Loke666: in a recent press release they have stated that they will, in fact, be including hunters and other playable humans at launch
@entityx: good things come to those who wait. personally, i hope CCP takes its sweet time and makes a great game.
those were the reporter's words, not CCP's
