Long time lurker, first time poster. I was just wondering if anyone else has been following archeage? My first MMO was WoW. Back in Vanilla when town raids were fun, 40 man raids existed and outdoor raid bosses could lead to some of the best world pvp i've ever been a part of... I've never had so much fun in a game. However, overtime, everything I loved about WoW was slowly squeezed out leaving Battlegrounds and smaller group raids in it's place. Since that time I've tried to find a game that could atleast replicate some of the enjoyment I found in WoW. Remember your first rag kill? Attacking Ironforge? That shit was fun. But fast forward to now, it's not the same game. I've tried a  few others... Rift, the new star wars but nothing has been close to the fun I had back then. The competition against other guilds to clear content, deck out your characters, be a badass. It really had me hooked. I'm really looking forward to this Archage, it looks like it may be able to restore some of those elements from the good ol days I enjoyed in WoW. Does anyone know if there will be large group raids? Outdoor bosses worth fighting over?

It's nice to finally be excited about an MMO. So i'd like to know what you guys think about this game? Maybe if you know some more about the world pvp and would can be expected for raid content? Would love to talk some more about this game with anyone else who is looking forward to it? Or if anyone can suggest a game that I may enjoy until this comes out!

thanks for reading

Alot of people have been watching Archeage. Supposibly a fusion between Themepark and Sandbox. I would suggest going and playing a sandbox for a while, while you wait for Archeage so that you have your pure sandbox and pure themepark experience and can witness them melting together when Archeage comes out.

You could try the following sandboxes. Ive played them all.

Darkfall ((has quests, easier to learn, ui sucks(will be changed), lack of skill-cap sucks))-promise in patch 2.0, crafting not as different, but has ship building, no terraforming

Mortal Online (first person only, immersion is strong, ui sucks, heavier learning curve), crafting/resource system fun, no terraforming

Xsyon- very fun for a month setting up your tribe and crafting , crafting/resource system is fun, not many people play, lack of rare resources will frustrate. combat system sucks.

Wurm-Havent played too much but has everything a sandbox should have with worst graphics out of above list. Combat isnt too unique at this point. Graphic update anticipated in the future.

EVE -  Space combat etc, has quests, your character is a spaceship with your persons portrait. Skill-based. Pretty big learning curve also.

NOTE: All of the above, due to small indie developers could have aspects of exploiters, bugs, etc. EVE less than others. My favorite out of the above is Mortal Online and am still playing that. If you dont want to play a sandbox I would go for Vanguard, Rift or SWTOR.Vanguard has old school coolness but without the pvp.

What you describe is actually a very common syndrome.  I've quoted the two pieces that matter.  The rest is just details.  Lots of people on this site have a similar story about how the first game they played was the best.  The game changes, and the reasons change, and if some other game had been their first, they'd also think that other game was the best, too.

The change you've noticed is not that games have changed.  It's that you changed.  Game mechanics that never were very good were still a lot of fun when they were new to you, and you didn't yet realize how they completely break down after a while.  But then you keep playing MMORPGs for a while and things that were once new and exciting become old and mundane.  Even if the new games are better than the old, there isn't still the excitement of it being your first time, so it isn't as much fun.

I'd suggest that if the problem is that you're tired of WoW, then trying other games that are trying too hard to copy WoW isn't the solution.  Maybe the MMORPG genre has simply played itself out for you.  But you could also try some more innovative games, which at least hold the promise of some game mechanics that would be new to you.  After all, that's what made WoW fun for you in the first place.

UO may have been my first real taste of an MMO, but I really didn't play heavy until SWG, and I base a lot of expectations on that one. I'm so very glad WoW wasn't my first game, because the handful of times I was forcefully dragged by someone IRL to play the damned thing, I just couldn't see what they saw in it.... until I realised it was *their* cherry-popper MMO, and any attempts to wean them onto something else were completely fruitless.

On the bright side, you just need a game that can amaze you as much as your first experience did. I spent 2+ years in SWG back in like 04' or so, but I've also spent 2+ years in Wurm Online, and still play that bitch currently. I find it amazing, and it keeps me interested day after day. No stupid endgame raid system can keep me playing, but good housing/deco/exploration and all that can keep me interested indefinitely.

I'd probably be playing Mortal Online as well, if the community wasn't human diarrhea, and if the dev team was experienced enough to improve on it without breaking everything prior. Great game at the core, where it matters, imo, but I just can't get myself to commit to a monthly sub for something that a.) has that many niggling annoyances, and b.) won't let me virtually strangle every asshole that plays the damned thing.

Now Playing: Skyrim, Wurm Online, Tropico 4
Waiting On: GW2, TSW, Archeage, The Rapture

Keep tabs on the Shadowbane Emulator.  They are opening up closed beta apps from Feb 10 to Feb 12 and things are going well.

AA do have some interesting ideas and if just the programming is good enough it might become a hit. But and that is a big but, the game do not even have a western publisher yet and it might take years before we see it here.

AA is one of several new games that tries to offer a different gameplay compared to the rest of the games out there and it is surely worth to keep an eye out for, but unless you can read and speak Korean or Mandarin don´t hype up yourself too much just yet, we wont see this game in English 2012 and I am not so sure we see it 2013 either.

Other interesting games to keep your eyes out for is Class 4, WoDO, GW2, Copernicus and possibly TSW.
