I played it til I got sick of seeing the Dark Elves running by.  Why does EVERY asian game have a class that runs all slanted? Seriously do people run like that in Asia somewhere, maybe the really fast people do

Heh ,NCSoft had a special on their item shop for Botting starter kits or something?  Ban botting on LA2 and the game will die by the end of the year.

Seriously , who the hell plays NCSoft titles? ... of course no one will raise their hands , all botting, LOL! :P

    Actually these numbers can lie.

    1. Does this include actual players, or Bot Accounts, for example are they taking statistics based on IP address, and actual players not like one person has two accounts and plays etc.

    2. This does not excuse their poor customer support, and number of hacked accounts since the game went F2P, All my gear was ripped off of me, this was NcSofts fault for not adding a secondary password on release of the game like they should have.

    3. Does this include all those people/dwarfs that are sitting down and selling items too?

Lineage 2 May have got a good boost, but I will not be playing Lineage 2 until NcSoft does something to fix my account because of their mistakes as a paying customer for years to their game my account was stripped, who knows maybe there will be a major hijacking of a lot more players accounts, or something then people will see how their customer service really is I have no idea but I know I was reading their forums and a lot of people beyond myself had the same problem when the game went F2P we couldn't have all been phished or keylogged either.

Just wait until TERA's release, honestly I really don't care what NCsoft claims about legal issues either, I hope that Tera wins due to NCsofts poor customer service and can actually make NCsoft loose some profit for what they caused in all my loss of items with no customer support it will serve them right.

Also Facebook, and Twitter mean nothing, can't prove that it isn't a lot of people with multipel accounts who click the like button on the same game or anything, so it means nothing and I could care less about the social network as 280 Thousand is not a lot.

These are simply the hard facts, and I doubt NCsoft can give me an exact number of how many people are playing right now this second not including the people sitting in town selling stuff which is simply bot accounts made by other players or people who sell stuff, and the actual number of people botting, or gold sellers in the game, if they can't provide these numbers then they are not accurate.

Lineage 2 was a great game in the past, but now requires major fixes before it will be worth playing again, and better customer service who can help people who have been illegally looted instead of we are sorry we cant do anything and give the player the wrong set of bound gear worth nothing and a bound weapon worth nothing.

Well then dont play the game. This is just a QQ Rant and its pointless.

These numbers dont really tell us much without more information.

"Population increases by 800%" could mean = Our game stunk so bad only 20k people were still playing it but now that it is free, we have 160k who are playing.  160k for a free game is not really that much.

Profits increases by 400% could mean = We were only making 300k per month and after paying for servers and the 10 man team we were losing money.  In the last two months we made 1.2 million but it was mostly due to people buying the things they needed just to play the game like inventory space since we start them out with so few slots.  We dont expect to make this kind of money in future now that everyone bought inventory and bank space plus a needed weapon.

Not saying this stuff is true, just saying that without the base numbers from which these figures are made, we really dont know anything other than they made a bit more money than they were making.  There is no way to know if that will continue.  These same announcements were made when every other game went F2P during their first two months.

I beta'd it (and got the game/first month for my efforts) but determined it wasn't for me.  Still nice to see the game doing well though!

Lineage 2 was a hardcore KOREAN GRIND game, where you needed to play(GRIND) 1 year each day 8 hours to reach maximum level.

Has it actaully changed? I'm asking because I don't know anymore :/

Im happy for you NCSoft, now how about spend some part of this "revenue" in "bot fight" ?

    Thanks in advance...

The only reason the game is overpopulated is not because the playerbase has increased, but for the fact that L2 was one of the largest private server playerbase MMOs for the last 6-7 years. Now the game's free there is not much reason to play in crappy/modded/java emulated servers anymore and even though the game itself is much worse than the previous chronicle (won't go into reasons on this as there's probably a text limit on comments), obviously thousands of players switched to retail because they have been playing crap servers for years and years. And about 30% of each server's population are just bots too.

However, the few good privates with official files on previous chronicles still have larger populations than retail (4 to 7k online each world).

It's probably not nearly as bad as you are describing but once you get to level 60 the grind starts to increase and I'm told the final push from 85-99 is still very traditional and you'll likely be very motivated to buy exp boosters from the cash shop.

if ncsoft wasn´t that dumb and fixed early rates and actually cared about bots this game would have been nr2 in west also. I´m mean private servers were and are for years full of players and tons of them are out htere.

The future is F2P or B2P.

    /agree

Good thing, in a few months we have TERA. I've already quited Lineage II because of the ENORMOUS amount of bots in-game and playing WoW for the moment (when TERA servers are not up). Hell, even WoW gives a better gaming experience now than Lineage II since it went Free4Bots ...uhm... Free2Play

For older/struggling games this is correct because the market is flooded with decent MMOs.  Both a great time and a frustrating time to be an MMO gamer with all the game hoping, heh.

Just not worth my time anymore.

Does not make a difference what people say. Facts are facts regardless of whether you like them or not. EA has control of what Bioware does now just like NC Soft has control of what Arena Net does. Copmanys like EA and NC Soft are not just publishers for companys like Arena Net and Bioware. This is all I am saying so tell me what you are saying because I dont see nonthing from your statement.

Some people think (erroneously) that the controlling parent has zero say in what goes into the games development, which is not true.

Take one look at SWTOR and you can almost point to the EA inspired flaws that I think Bioware would have avoided had they been totally autonomous.

Same thing will happen in GW2, NCSoft gave free reign to developers before and it didn't turn out well, they'll be making sure their investment in GW2 goes to their satisfaction.  Time will tell whether that influence will be largely posititve or negative.

it really is a crap-shoot to me with NCsoft; i look at them and think, they were the developers of l2 and producers of CoH which are great games, but they are also the team that stood to one side and let bots and afk macroers cripple l2.

out of all the major mmo corporations I have the most "love-hate" relationship with ncsoft; even more than with ccp.....

I think it's great. People like to spend money the way they like instead of being tied to a subscription, and this kinda shows that.

I'm happy to see L2 doing well!

Same here.  A company makes a game people want to play with a business model that fits how poeple want to pay for their games. In most places that's considered a good thing.

exactly.  and this is the best F2P model, IMO.  If it is very successful, then hopefully other companies try to mirror it.  Most F2P is anything other then Free and you are better off just paying the $15 -- see any SOE "F2P title.
