The Game explained in Detail

Well I noticed after reading here that many people had a lot of complaints about this game and as a D&D fan I was starting to be less hopefully about this game than I was when I first heard about it. So I went lookin for some info on the game and found it here:

http://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7728

It took me a few hours of reading to get thru all of this but by the time I was done all my doubts and questions had been put to rest such as:

Q

What the hell is ebberon? and why the hell did they make this game take place their when the more popular forgotten realms would have been better IMO?

A

After reading the above and thinking about it a bit more I now think it was a good move... why?

because if they tried to make it take place in FR or any other realm with lots of material already there the same people that are complaining now about why they did not put it there would be complaining cause it was not done right for this or that reason.

Starting with a new setting lets them spend less time researching and making sure they dont create contradictions and more time actually making the game and more content for the game.

Q

What where you thinking when you decided not to give xp for killing monsters?

A

Again after reading about the decision process that went into it I am now excited about this change and I think this will be truly a new and better MMORPG cause(This among other things they do) I will not have to sit in one spot farming for xp or items. It will actually reward me not for killing everything I see but getting by the obstacles they put in my path HOWEVER I do it.

Its like they said in the above link..... we plan on making it so that some things that get you banned or are thought of as exploits are now not just fair game but they are designed for you to do it that way as a quicker smarter easier way to complete your quest.

Q

Instant dungeons? what the hell thats not an mmorpg thats guild wars i hated that.

A

So do I.

Tried and hated guild wars... mostly because there was no purpose to anything you did especially the pvp it felt like an mmorpg designed to be like a fps.

However from what I read in the above link I think that D&D online will give you purpose by being what its title says it is... D&D  Online:

I will explain what I mean by that....it sounds like the developers are trying to make this an online game version of the pnp game where you dont need to round up a group of friends in your local area you just log on create a char and the servers play the part of the DM and you just form up a group and have fun.

which to be honest is what i have been hoping to find ever since  I first heard about an MMORPG in the first place when AC1 was being developed.

I had to stop playing D&D pnp not because I wanted to but because it became harder to find groups of people to play the game with so I turned to MMORPG instead.

There is other questions that I have seen people complaining about that had me concerned but I will leave it to you to read the above link and comment on them yourself here. All I will say now is that if they can pull off what they said they are trying to do. I think they will have a hit on their hands due to the fact; when you put it all together this game will be way different than any other one out there right now. If there is one thing I can say about the state of MMORPG right now is that way to many are just clones of the original ones and something truly new would be a breath of fresh air.

I am glad you posted this, but unfortunately this post will not help! Especially when it comes to the trolls and flamers that constantly come to this forum to bash DDO. I have wasted to mush time trying to convince others of this MMORPG, but they have either made there mind up about DDO, or they are just being little Trolls!

Like I said before I do not want players that are just going to complain in the community (DDO) and lessen the gaming experience for others.

Agreed. I strated posting here and on other forums, but ppl just whine. But this is a good post. The DDO forums have some good info, but you do need to search for it.

My note to whiners: of course its not exactly like PnP. If you want PnP, go play PnP. :)

It might not be exactly like PNP D&D but i think the designers are trying to make it as close as they can to it.

Personally, I think people are just to darn negitave today.

I read a lot of forums on diffrent games, and there are always those who think it necissary to hate on games based off of very little information. Why not just let it be released, then go from there. I got really worked up on the hype behind EQ II, only to be pretty much shot down by paying 14.95 for beta for those first few months. One really can't tell if a game is bad or good, but I will tell you one thing. DDO definetlly has me a bit excited. I am also looking forward to D&L and HJ when they get here. I don't really think D&L is going to make it when this game come out though. If they really implement diffrent ways of compleating quests (with more xp for the more ingenous ways) well, then this game will have me hands down. Even if we can't explore the outer world too much. I don't care, D&D was all about the dungons anyways. Thanks for reading my ramblings guys, and I hope to see you on DDO. ::::28::

    NP

This is the best collection of information I have ever seen explaining what the developers are doing and why with a game. It gave me a really good understanding of what they are trying to do and the problems they are facing in what they are doing.

I for one will not base DDO off of opinions from people who have not tried it.  Too much of this goes on not just with this game but all games in general.   Some of the most constructive fun I have had has been within the D&D worlds and for me that at least warrants an initial purchase just to see if the magic continues.

Friends - Do not despare ::::01::

Perhaps D&D online is turning to be a incredible hack&slash online when all we wanted is dungeons and dragons ::::21::

But not all hope is lost!

A bright star that this site never writes about is comming

    NWN2 ::::08::

There we will gather again for real roleplaying , dungeon mastered quests , and all with no monthly fee ::::24::

In the grand scheme of online gaming, DDO looks pretty good. I've played the more popular games, I've done the beta testing for those games..and of course, with beta, things always change and it is never as good (usually) as what gets released when the time comes. I'd love the chance to get in on the beta for this game, being an avid D&D fan, from 1st ed. PnP, to 3.5 currently and everything in between.

As far as people knocking it go, it happens. To them I say, blab on my friends. Opinions are like ...well..you know. We all have one.  That's the joy of being human.  And when the game is released and tweaked and played, those same people will most likely be drumming to a different tune, so why sweat it? Why bother letting the flamers work you up?

I hope this game does well, I will certainly be trying it out when the time comes, if for nothing else but the roleplay that I hope to find there, that seems to come and go just as fast in other current MMOs. On that note, if anyone knows of any forums out there preparing for DDO that has a little post-play going for character/guild/group development, do pass the link along.

Well personally I can't wait to play it. I think its going to be a change of pace from the same old mmo's out there. I will miss the FR and other realms; however I can't wait to see the new area. To the flamers, STOP trolling the boards and go get laid. image Some people do not have an opened mind for new things. See you all there. Happy Gaming. image

I don't know how to say it anymore than this.  But the more I read about this game the more I am liking it.  The people that are down playing it are the ones that it seems like what I don't like... the point click kill grind mentality that ends up with a guy playing a game with no mind set finding the area that they can grind in for 50 hours a week and be the best PvP the server has to make a name for themselves.  Or the Clans dominating a server and one or two fighting it out until everone joins them or leaves.

Yeah get me in let me try something new YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ha!

    Why?

i think not giving xp for killing monsters is better image so NOOB players that dont know anything about games and cant communicate image wont play this game cause they wont be able to start killling monsters all the time to get lvls
