Hello peeps!
The other day i thought GW2 had chat bubbles... then i heard there's no chat bubbles in the game... Is that right? If it's right, they are planing to add it?
a concernt player :-)
I ask, cous it dosen't work in SWTOR with no chat bubbles!!
Comments
Yes, they have chat bubble for NPCs and players, I believe. I also think you can turn them on or off.
"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."
John Parry, to his son Will; "The Subtle Knife," by Phillip Pullman
I have seen gameplay videos that had chat bubbles, and other videos that did not. So I can only assume that it is a feature that you can enable or disable.
The way mmo's were: Community, Exploration, Character Development, Conquest.
The way mmo's are now : Cut-Scenes,Cut-Scenes, solo Questing, Cut-Scenes...

Glad it's toggleable. Chat bubble spam totally wrecks game immersion for me.
Archlinux ftw
Can anyone here link a video where players use Chat bubbles please?
i have never seen a video of player chat bubbles, i do remeber them saying it was planned to be in the game though.
So did the devs in SWTOR... It's not there yet :-p I don't get why more and more mmo's leaves out chat bubbles. It's part of making it social
remember that we have seen swtor from a largely unchanged beta, not an alpha build with literally hundreds of features(confirmed features) not in it. the demo was like tasting the batter before you throw the cake in the oven, i'm betting there's chat bubbles in the beta right now. Anet's word is a lot more meaningful than bioware's.
I really hope you are right. After been playing SWG, WoW with chat bubbles, and EQ2 i think EQ2 had chat bubbles, not sure tho.... but chat bubbles is a must really. Otherwise cities looks so dull imo. And it's easier to see if someone talking to you
There were chat bubbles in the game when I demo'ed it at PAX Prime last year. I did not look into whether or not they were toggleable, but I can verify that I was invited to a group by an ANet employee who instructed via in-game chat that I accept the invite (so much going on in such a short period of time it was easy to miss the little pop-up window), and there was indeed a chat bubble when the character spoke.
good to know. i was at PAX east but i was a lone wolf, and pretty much explored on my own.
I just find it weird there's no video's with chat bubbles in it
Here are some.. but the video quality isn't the best.
Eat me!
It's an interesting contrast between people. For me, it's the lack of chat bubbles that ruins immersion - I dislike having to look at a chat panel to follow speech.
We already know about the NPC chat bubbles and the one's players have, when their toon says one of their random quips. However even I can't remember seeing a vid, where someone typed /say or /yell and a chat bubble appeared. It likely will be in the game, but it would be nice to have to definitive proof.
Sid is enough proof and if you don't believe her she will come to your house and fill your bathtubs with GW2 photos.
This is not a game.
I'm not a huge fan of chat bubbles filling up my screen in populated areas, but I'm glad it's an option for folks that like them.
SWTOR dev: "Hey we didn't add chat bubbles, because the way they clutter the screen annoys some of our players."
GW2 dev. "Hey we added chat bubbles but made them toggleable so players could enjoy the game either way."
Pics or it didn't happen. :P
I really hope that's true. And yea Bioware really likes to hold your hand
I agree!
