Ok, getting a good FPS on Doom 3 for the computer is a big feat because it requires a very powerful graphics card and good computer specs, which costs a lot of money. But, the awesome graphics are pretty worth it. But Doom 3 recently came out on the xbox, and Im not sure but, the graphics look pretty good, like PC graphics. But the specs on the XBOX are wayy worse than like the required specs for Doom3. I wonder how the xbox can handle doom so perfectly and produce such great graphics? are the graphics worse on the xbox, or wat.

Well im sure its in the WAY its processed, rather than what is needed. An Xbox is setup in such a way that it can process graphics more efficiently than say a desktop computer, therefore making it able to process just as much data, with lower specs.
Think of it this way:
Your PC is setup to do many different things. Not EVERYTHING needs high graphical processing.
Your Xbox is built AROUND your graphics card. The graphics cards on Xboxes are basically the CPU of the system (not saying they are, theyre just more or less used as one). Everything goes through the Graphics card, it is more or less, the first thing that sees data. SO if you need to render a scene like Doom 3 would need, instead of having to go to your Motherboard, run through your CPU, and then pushed to your graphics card, the interfacing is almost instantaneous, therefore increasing productivity
Doom 3's graphics on Xbox are reduced from the PC. The PC's quality is much better and it actually doens't take a whole lot to get a good frame rate in Doom 3 unless you want to play at extreme or whatever the highest level is. The engine is well designed like Half-Life 2.
Like he said, PC's are made to do tons of different tasks and multitasking. Consoles are made purely for gaming and have the edge in price/performace. Also developers can optimize games better for consoles because theirs only one platform/setup to consider.
Hence the term dedicated processing...
Just wait until the Xbox360 and PS3 are released. They are going to blow current PC's out of the water for a good time to come. Currently you can't buy a gaming PC that is as good as either the Xbox360 or the PS3, that coupled with processing dedicated to games is going to be a tough combination to beat.
yeah but....all the upcoming xbox 360 video games will be 59.99 versus the 49.99
Go to any gamestore and ask how much a new xbox360 game will cost because you would like to reserver a copy today. It's 60 bucks now.
True the graphics will be better than the average PC with the new xbox and ps3 (unless you are a hardcore gamer with a good card already) but I really wouldnt wanna buy a game for 60 bucks. I know its only a 10 dollar difference between the new computer games.....but 60 bucks is 60 bucks....which is a lotta money.
Also the Doom3 on Xbox was completley revamped on an entirely new code to make it look like that on the xbox. The literally stripped all code and worked from the ground up.

ehh not me. I tried to get into the console thing...I just couldnt
I just traded in all my PS2 games because I found myself on the PC a whole lot more than the console. There's something about Console games that I dont like...I havent quite put my finger on it yet. It may be a cumulation of fast game duration, graphics, and bad plots....I dont know lol
Ah well. Kudos for thos who love consoles. Im just not a big fan of them (well....maybe the PSP I am lol)

Maybe its the TV? Atleast for me feels odd playing a game on the TV rather than a monitor.

I'm i dont know about stripping the code for Doom 3... I'm pretty sure all the Graphics Code was rewritten... to fit better on the X-Box... but the rest of the code was re-usable... That's the Golden rule of programming...
Make re-usable code.... Although it was probably thoroughly Optimized....
But anyways... Yeah Graphics are more efficient on Consoles... But everything else kinda sucks compared to a PC....

You're right, the price is going to be $60.00, a $10.00 increase is not significant to most people and marketers know that. You have to realize that the $10.00 increase on games is to pay for the money that they're losing on the console, and the increasing amount of money it takes to produce these massive games. I wouldn't be surprised to see computer games increase in price sometime soon as well. At the price they are selling the consoles you are getting it at cheaper than what it costs them to make. Sounds like a pretty damn good deal to me.
It's not going to be better than the average computer. It's going to be better than all technology currently available to personal computers. I have an X800XTPE GPU and the GPU on the Xbox360 is vastly superior. That along with the fact that all games will at the very least support 720p HDTV up to 1080i, it's going to look pretty good on this http://www.vizioce.com/site/products/product_p50hdm.html.
It's also coming out with a significant amount of MMORPGs in it's future. I've never been a big fan of consoles because they've usually just been inferior computers....until now. With an Xbox360 or a PS3 you're basically getting a multiple-thousand dollar computer for $300.00 and $400.00 respectively.
Console gaming is where I started, and probably where I will finish. I love my computer don't get me wrong. But Consoles are pure gaming, thusly they make me pure happy .
The Xbox 360 is going to be a complete system which will cost about the same if not less than a good graphics card. But you get the graphics card, the processor, joystick, OS and Hard drive all for that one price! For pure gaming, you simply won't be able to compete with the Xbox 360 or the PS3.
Consoles I have owned: Coleco Telstar, Magnavox Oddysey 2, Atari 2600, Intellivision, Colecovision, NES, (started buying them myself hereafter) Sega Genesis, SNES, 3D0, Atari Jaguar, Dreamcast, Playstation, Playstation 2, Xbox.
Next console I will get: Xbox 360 of course
Also in regards to the O.P.: The Xbox Doom3 graphics are better than a lot of computers graphics beside the very high end ones because of its design. They get a custom chipset made for their system and make millions of them so the price is very competitive. While also being optimized for pure gaming. Plus, they are all exactly the same so the developers can really go to town tweaking things just for that system. Jaguar said it much better I think than me though
Gears of war for the xbox 360, the graphics are soooooooooooo awesome.
the "graphics" for all the upcoming systems look good, but thats because theyre not really graphics, theyre just renders
Yes the graphics will be good, but I can almost guarantee that the graphics wont match the hype. You cant possibly create a console with graphics that match the rendered video quality theyre showing off right now
I have seen the graphics on the new systems,
and they don't really look better IMO to that of the current good computer systems. Now granted, computers do cost perhaps 600 or so more dollars to apprach the kind of power that the consoles put out. But really, can your console store your music collection, video collection, run an internet explorer, run programs like photoshop and Word etc... Comon peeps, stop trying to compare apples and oranges. Consoles alwasy have big hype aroudn them before release, as dose anything really these days due to the media. Lets see the games, and then talk about how much better they are. For me, there really does seem to be something missing from most console games, save a few like the FF series, and goodies like Destroy all Humans, and God of War. But I don't really play any of these games, becaus computers seem to have much more content and are intended for a more mature audience. I would love to see good mmos on the consoles, but I am certainly not holding my breath.
First off Doom 3 was dramaticly lowered to be able to play on the console. They have even stated this on the developers site. They had to remake the engine and have tricked with lower rez and details on the outer sides etc. Take a close look.
I could never go for consoles. Reason: Dont like arcade.
Console games are arcade games. I like having a bunch of options are being able to hit one button instead of scrolling to the function i need. Also PCs hold more stratagy games, MMORPGs etc then consoles.
The pluss for consoles :
1. Its great fun with fighting games and Racing games when having a party and hanging with friends. Hard to gather around a computer and not worry about beer spilling on the keyboard.
2. You dont have to worry if your console can run a game or not. No need to upgrade.
This said I will most likly bye the PS3 when it comes, but will never buy a game..... Just for having it there for parties and when friends come over.
Myself Im a PC freak.
Actually your console can do that, if you own an xbox. Its called a Linux Emulator
Cause PCs were never mean't for games.
When a company develops a console, they take PC components, optimize it for games, stick it in a box and release it on the market. Then game developers use the console's programming tools to develop games. As the years go by, these programmers discover new ways to make the game go faster, boost the graphics without making it lag, etc...
PC? It's rare you will ever see a clone PC that has identical components as another. Developers for PC games will optimize their games for new hardware that is released on the market all the time. And it costs them a lot less money to develop a game will killer graphics using new technology using a GeforceFX7800 rather than trying to program their game using an old Geforce 2 and see how far they can push the Geforce 2's limits!

I suppose, but I will belive it when I see it
Back in 1980s maybe. I live in 2005 and computers are aiming at gaming as a sales pitch, and bosting there 3d capabilitys.
