Looking through joystiq and found this http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/20/written-in-the-s-t-a-r-s-capcom-dreams-of-cod-fans-playing-res/. So MMO's copy WoW and now apparently shooters have to be like CoD. Looking like it might be time to just quit gaming all together. This is now the 2nd franchise that I like but will never play again (1st being SOCOM). So it's not only MMO's being affected by clones anymore...

Capcom has been like this for a long time. that's why inafune quit. all there new IP's and games that were changed from the old style were done behind the executives backs...and HAd to be released once it got to the point where they would lose more money by cancelling them.
Technically every single shooter out there is a clone of Doom or Quake, so I don't see what you are getting at..
???
What does that have to do with the big shift iin gameplay from core Resident Evil to a COD game?
"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." (First Lieutenant Clifton B. Cates, US Marine Corps, Soissons, 19 July 1918)
The game the article is referring to is actually Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City not RE: 6. Actually if you took the time to check out Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City it shares almost no similarity to any FPS much less COD. It's actually more of a combination between RE, TF2, and L4D or RE, a class based shooter, and L4D if you will.
1 - it's in 3rd person
2 - Class based (pretty sure it will be 6 classes at launch. This has changed several times in the development cycle though).
3 - Objective based shooter (there is a single TDM mode)
4 - 3 Faction MP - You, enemy team, zombies (NPC faction)
5 - You can use the NPC faction (zombies) to your advantage. Slice an opponent with a knife, they bleed, this draws zombies to kill them. These gameplay choices will lead to more points/advantage than simply killing your opponent.
6 - 4 Player Co-op
7 - Takes place btw RE:2 and 3 with the players taking over the roles of Umbrella Agents attempting to track down and kill Leon Kennedy
The list really goes on and on, but this new RE is actually a title I'm looking forward to. For me RE4 and 5 we're complete garbage. I know that's contrary to pretty much every other opinion out there, but it's mine.
Release date for RE:ORC is 3/20/12 btw.

Might want to re-read the final paragraph before jumping to any conclusions.
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
I think that would be pretty cool. After all, Nazi Zombies was a huge hit.
I can see how long-time fans would be upset. Though in all honesty, Resident Evil has been straying away from its roots in the past 2 games
It's a shooter. Think about that, esp. in contrast to past RE games and what Capcom is going for with a COD style.

It's separate from the series so I see no problem. RE:6 should not be touched by these elements. RE:ORC is shooting to pick up the MP component that the entire RE series has really lacked and pull in more fans to the franchise through that community. I'm a perfect example of this demographic. I haven't bought an RE title at launch since PS1/2, but here I am chomping at the bit for this game. Now if this turns into the main RE series becoming more shooter I'd see your complaint. However, different titles in the same franchise can appeal to different gamers. Look at Final Fantasy for example you've got an MMO, tactics, the regular RPG, etc.
I might add that while RE has never been a shooter at it's core, shooting zombies is probably the number one activity you engage in during the game. Yeah you solve puzzles, explore, etc. but if you actually timed out your activities in game I bet shooting comes out on top.

I think the raccoon city will be good for many general gamers. I've never been into resident evil ( i get scared =/) but I think i might try this one out since its 4 player coop. I have a tendency to enjoy coop games since I don't like playing alone. I think this will be good for general gamers but not the hardcore ones who fell in love with resident evil.
I loved the resident evil series up to 4,excluding this one.
Capcom has revealed new details on the game today:
The action takes place in 2013 somewhere in China in a coastal town called Lanshiang. The main characters of the games are: Leon S. Kennedy, Helena Harper, Chris Redfield, Ingrid Hunnigan, Adam Benford plus a mysterious protagonist that Capcom tries to keep it a secret until the official launch.
The list of enemies includes an army of zombies plus J'avo.

You would be wrong. The majority of my time is spent going back and forth in the mansion trying to figure out what the heck to do. Hah... erm... take that?
Seriously though, I don't really care where the series goes now. I liked the original few but I don't see the developers ever taking it there again. I wander if those aweful movies (alright, the first was okay) had anything to do with them trying to rope in a new crowd. Me thinks yes.
It will fall into the same sea of games like the Deception series. A sea that is unforgiving, consuming what you love and leaving you with husks that float by letting you know what once was will not be again.
Capcom announced today that the previously announced Resident Evil: Chronicles HD Collection will be available to purchase from the PlayStation Store on June 26th in North America for $26.99. The collection features previously released Resident Evil titles - Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, which have been remastered for the PlayStation 3 with stunning HD graphics and PlayStation Move compatibility.
