I don't think your trolling, but I do think your being overly cynical... I get where  you are coming from but you don't know anything about how this game will launch.

Just let people have fun with their excitement. It's rare enough that a game comes along that unites the majority of the player base here in happiness rather then squabblling. Let folks enjoy it.

    What will be will be.

Yeah I totally get were he is coming from too. Just because good releases are the exception rather than the rule does not make it right though :).

Why do they feel the need to take the particle effects to over 9000? And why is it that most skills look like aoe effects?  I do like the pvp info they released however.

    In Bioware we trust!

NO MMO has been released without a issue that causes hate on the game, its just how the genre works in its infant stage. and yes MMORPG is still in its infant stage.

Ah before i get flamed i will simply add that i would love to see every MMO get popular.

Well since GW2 won't launch for at least 6 months you know nothing at all about how the game will be at release. Your or anyone else opinion good or bad is completely irrelevent at this stage of development.

We all know the problems with MMO releases but to start saying ohh dont think this or that because you might be disapointed is pointless - as YOU have no clue how the game will be in 6 months time.

Nobody have problem with bad launch.

If the game has potential on the table and developers show ability to fix initial bugs.

Hell , even WOW was terribly bugged on launch. Nobody seemed to care though

Don't you think they are further along than that? Just seems that they are gearing up for launch and that the stuff they are doing now is a bit premature for a six month launch window. I'm going to go with round independance day :)

Actually both rift and swtor had pretty smooth launches

So it kinda breaks the point of the previous devil advocate

    "It has potential"

    "It sucks"

there is a reason that MMO's still botch the launch in this day and age. Coding for MMO's is huge, alot more involved that single player. also with as i said in the statement. MMORPG is still in infant stages, its a young genre. we were blessed to see its birth.  if you takes its age in human years it may seem old but compare it to the other genres who have been steadly growing FPS, RTS, Racing, Adventure. these are all significantly older than MMORPG, flawless launches wont happen for afew more years i think.

There's a huge difference between botched and flawless.

Will GW2 have a flawless launch?  Unlikely.  Any code more complicated than "Hello World" will have bugs in it somewhere.

But all the indications are that ArenaNet understands what is at stake.  This is a quote from their lead designer.

"There are going to be bugs when they release it so why not just release it now and fix the bugs later?"

In the current western gaming market a game has one chance to find it's audience and that chance occurs right when it releases. The examples of games that have released with huge problems and then stabilized and gained a following after being fixed are few and far between. On the other hand the examples of games that released with a lot of potential, made a bad first impression and have since been relegated to a small audience or have even been shut down are easy to point to. We've all seen where releasing unfinished gets a game and none of us want Guild Wars 2 to fail because it was released before it was finished.

He's not the boss.  What does he know?  How about a quote from their cofounder and president?

“We can make the highest quality MMO ever released. We can be the number one MMO in the world. We don’t have to settle. And we’re not going to release this until it’s done.”

Now don't get me wrong, I'm naturally inclined to think everything a developer says is bullshit.  But this game looked great in August 2010 and if they were going to screw this up, they'd have released it right after the Manifesto trailer and the Shatterer coming out of the sky.  ArenaNet says "When it's Ready"  in November 2010 and still no release date?  Other games coming out I'm still skeptical of because I haven't seen a lot.  But everything we know about this one, coupled with the very extensive demo footage, I'm allowing myself to be a believer.  Yes, it will make the heartbreak that much worse if I'm wrong, but I'm willing to take that chance.

"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true – you know it, and they know it." -Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007

  • VolkonVolkon Member UncommonPosts: 3,748

Is it me or does it feel like there's "something in the air", so to speak, where the devs think it's ready, want to say it's ready but are so used to "when it's ready" that they're still digging to find one more thing to add or fix?

It feels like it could be released this spring, but even if it's ready it wouldn't surprise me if they took a bit longer just to be sure. So refreshing compared to companies that push a game out based on a deadline instead of a finished product.

    Oderint, dum metuant.

I am a big fan of the cynical brit, but a Video about how he is going to comment on a video from a videogame he cant play this weekend...

    So useless...

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Been married for 24 years, I can say with experience, it would not be a bad decision :)

Think of marriage like a lifetime subscription, and if you cancel. You get no refund, and then start paying $15 a month to not play the game.

    http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/gw2-community-think-we-are-t27522.html Is this truly him?

It certainly sounds like him and I can see that he has a legitamate viewpoint.

'Check your fandom at the door and objectively look at a product'

    Nothing wrong with that.

Heck, when people decried his TERA videos on YouTube (TB didn't like it apparently?) and said "i will check it out anyway" his response was 'Good for you. INDEPENDENT THOUGHT! I LOVE IT!' or something like it.

I have to agree with him. Tera fans are attacking all critics yet the game isn't doing well so far. Same thing with GW2 fans. They attacking everything

No, I would say that from Lady Noh's viewpoint, all launches are poor is 100% correct.

    (I mean, she's a fan of Funcom. :) )

So it's completely reasonable for her to expect TSW to have a horrible launch. :)
