Its one thing to have players return. Its another to retain those players, which imo has always been a problem for Vanguard. The "idea" of Vangaurd is more promising than the actual game sometimes.
0 blame goes to SOE you would not have a game if they didnt step in and take a risk that burned them. Sigil was poorly managed made promises and deadlines they could not reach so microsoft got fed up and cut funding. SOE stepped up and allowed 6 more months of beta ( what sigil asked for) and the game stil wasnt even close to done. The blame is 100% brads simple as that. I did hear SOE is puting a new dev team on the game probably for a future f2p launch.
Your imagination is rich, but your grasp of reality not so much.
M$ ended business with Sigil simply because their whole game department was changed and the new guys suddenly didnt liked Vanguard anymore and didnt wanted it to be an AAA MMO.
Ok so i've had a few drinks tonight and i'm reading posts about VG and feeling nostalgic. I think i'm one of the many people that anxiously waited for this game to release. Was able to hang on past the buggy release and get a good sence off the unpolished gem the game was (is). And like many the low population and lack up support caused me to cancel. I've always kept my eye on the boards though devouring ANY new news.
Ok so new news is, according to the official boards the Dev team has doubled in size (so at least 2 people now? lol) AND there is a new boss!? So just for fun here's my conspiracy theory .... Could Brad be back? EQ1 recenly had some kind of reunion where the old team was all together and interviewed, there's a photo with Brad, Smed etc. With the timing of that and some of the news of VG getting some attention and added devs I wonder? It certainly would get a huge amount of attention! We all know Brad pretty much sucked as a CEO, but most of us agree that early EQ1 AND Vanguard behind all the crap were games that "did" something or had that "it" in the recipe that no one can really put a finger on. The one thing in comon is Brad (and the EQ1 he had with him). I'm sure it's not true but I for one would love to see where that went. Come on SOE do something crazy!
I've resubbed off and on last year and really enjoy Vanguard. LIke everyone else, population is the biggest concern. The cool thing is, Vanguard is a type of game where a lower population usually equals a better, more mature community. But it is frustrating to use certain features like the AH and know that your items may not sell at all. I'm going to resub though, because I have plenty of room for two or three mmorpgs, and community has always been the most important aspect of these types of games. I'm thinking along the lines of everyone else concerning f2p, and a few hundred more people is all it takes for Vanguard to thrive.
Well after getting bored with SWTOR I decided to try VG again from scratch and no trial island. I know it may be empty but I want to help populate the game. I find it funny that people always complain that there aren't enough players and they'll come back when more do play. We'll if everyone had that mentality then the game will never grow. BIte the bullet people and play it and at least help the game grow instead of waiting on the sidelines for something to happen.
I still have 10 gigs to download so I won't be on for like a nother day, I have slow internet. I installed from the disks I bought at launch and I was hoping it wouldn't take too much longer to patch, but I guess luck was not in my favor.

Would never happen imo, but would be th eone and only thing that would bring me instantly back to VG
You know this game is having a small resurgence when people come out of the woodwork and start trying to convince folks only 15 people total are online
Why, oh why do I come to these forums! Everytime I do I get that itchy sub finger...
Sony would stand to gain a lot of free advertising if they not only made Vanguard F2P but also had Brad as the lead releasing new content. If I remember right Brad has been in the SoE background for a while so it's not out of the question. On the other hand if Brad gives games that "it" he'd be spending time on EQNext.
It's a regular occurance here on these forums that posters will try and ham it up with rediculous claims just to get a few more people to jump on the waggon.

Don't fall for it
A lot of fans for various MMOs do that, yes. It's a real shame too as Vanguard could, or SHOULD have been the "classic" in line with Ultima, EQ1, WOW, etc.
I'd probably play, if I had anyone to play with consistently, but when I play a MMO I'm on many hours a day, I don't want a leveling buddy that logs in 4h a week every other week, while the rest of the time I play with myself.
Tortanic, if you do sub again you should check out Twighlyte Song. They have 10+ players on 24/7 thanks to the crowd that is "across the pond" and the crowd that is here both represent pretty strongly. Very good group of people and gamers.
I always had (still have) big love for this game but i have sworn to myself i wont return untill the game gets the love it deserves from their own devs.
The community in this game is awesome.....the game itself has had no work since 2010 ( Hotfix 01/20/10 - January 20, 2010 )
The only way i am comming back to VG is when the devs start to care for their product again and not just keeping it live to get your money every month while they just sit back and collect on this game.
realy hate sony for this.....
Your hate is misguided...
SoE did not stop working on the game until it was obvious no one was coming back. To say they didnt try would be lying.
For some reason they have started working on it again though, there is a new raid on the test server that the devs are actively working on. And there is a new mystery producer that is a face from the past and supposedly wille exciting news when revealed.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:
As long as it's in line to compete with EQ2 it will never receive real support or development.
Would never happen imo, but would be th eone and only thing that would bring me instantly back to VG

Well,

Vg should go F2P. That is really it's only hope of ever seeing new people come in to that game.
