Hey guys, so I was really big into maplestory. I quit playing due to the fact that theres nothing but hackers that play, and they have ruined the economy 100%. Anyways I'm looking for a game thats similar to maplestory in the sense that. Here is what I am, and am NOT looking for;
There are multiple classes - this kind of goes with what i'm about to say next
CUSTOMIZATION - I don't mean that I can have different clothes from everyone else, I mean like I can enhance my equips so that my character, and my items are unique as oppossed to someone else. Honestly I think this is my biggest pet peeve with what im looking for.
Less than a year or two old (preferably in beta, or even soon to be released) - I'm looking for a fresh start, I want to be a able to race to be the top of the rankings. I want the challenge and it makes the game overall a little more exciting to me. This is the second biggest pet peeve I have.
WoW Clone - I've tried wow, didn't mind it, wasn't all that into it, but now it just seems like all of these other games are the same thing, with some slight alterations. Now Maplestory is a 2D sidescroller, so no the game i'm looking for doesn't have to be 2D and of course the graphics don't have to look like anything specific but with a game overall I'm trying to completely avoid any type of WoW Clone there is. Graphics aren't a big deal for me!
Grinding - Grinding for levels isn't a big deal sometimes its enjoyable
Random loot - Sometimes I like to hunt mobs and sometimes get that "rare" item/weapon it adds a little bit more depth to the game.
The above is pretty much the biggest things that matter to me. Any recommendations would be awesome! Also If you have any suggestions on cleaning up this post that would be appreciated, I feel it's a bit sloppy for some reason.

Wakfu might be your type of game, it's either in beta or newly released (It was released sometime in Februrary but I can't remember the date.) It's 2D anime inspired, has loads of classes, it's a sandbox and it has turn based combat which is fun when you get used to it.
Other than that maybe you should wait for the likes of Secret World and Tera, they both look great and different to the clone filled MMO genre.
Thank you for your reply, I'm checking out wakfu right now. It honestly doesn't sound like the best BUT it came from Square Enix which single handedly made me fall in love simply because i'm a hardcore final fantasy player. I'm going to try out the game and will reply after I get a feel for it. Thank you again.

Tried out Wakfu, the fighting felt too slow paced. Really didn't like the turn based fight style in it. =/
I suggest Tera, it looks to be very promising, the combat is fast paced, yet strategic, the graphics are gorgeous and from what I've heard about it thus far in beta, the leveling isn't too bad (although I've heard something about it getting a tad more slow around 40-50s) there are 8 classes and 7 races to choose from. There is also a PvP server that looks like it will turn out to be very interesting.
You can play the the closed beta phases if you preorder the game (5$ at your local GameStop) even if you don't like it, you aren't forced to buy the game, so you may lose 5$ at the most (although I believe most stores give you the 5 back as store credit)

TERA looks like something I definitely might get into although I have a question. How is the customization in the game? (ex. can I craft a sword and then enhance it's abilities to get different stats or even for equips) Such as how maplestory you can use scrolls to make your equips better. As I said above this is my biggest pet peeve about a game and it's one that I think maplestory really took to a whole other level opposed to other games.
Alright so I did some more research into TERA. Found out they do have err somewhat of customization when it comes to builds and what not, doesn't seem to be exactly what im looking for but am definitely going to try it out! Still looking for possible game recommendations!
I know it's an old game , but have you ever tried Ultima Online. They have added quests to the game but you don't have to do any of them , there are also no levels in the game just skill based. You can make all of your own armor and weapons as well. They also have player housing, pre-set house;s as well as design your own, and they are in the world and not on a seperate sever. It is the game that set the standard that just about everything else is based on.
I've heard alot about ultima online. The only problem for me is its a fairly old game and im looking for something more new. Thanks for your recommendation though!
