Most active/populated game outside WoW

Raceman123Raceman123 Member Posts: 8

While waiting for TERA and GW2 to come out in 3+ months, looking for a game to play.  Any genre, any art style, just as long as the game is extremely populated.  To me, the community make the game, and the bigger the community the more fun the game is.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't have any hard numbers to go on but I'm going to say RIFT and SWTOR. SWTOR will be fun for 30 days and RIFT is Diet WoW.

A large community doesnt mean a better community, WoW is a good example of that.  Better to find a game you enjoy playing, that should take presedence over population size.  FFXI had a small community in comparison to some MMO's but also had a great community, though some may have had a terrible experience with FFXI.

Depending on your playstyle TOR could give you at least 350 hours of gameplay assuming you level up and Imp and Rep and do no end game, doing endgame and with the upcoming 1.2 should hold you over until said titles arive.

I don't care about innovation I care about fun.

More accurate description would be 150 hours of chores, and thats if you do everything.

Biggest population outside WoW? Probably Lineage 2 and other such Asian games. If you want WoW clones, SWTOR at the moment. Then it'd probably be Eve.

Some mainstream safe bets right now: SWTOR, Rift, EQ2

Or if you're looking for something a little different: EVE, Team Fortress 2, League of Legends

world wide AION (although certainly not here in EU)

Nothing against EVE , but probably not a good choice, need a lot of invested time to get far in that game, SWTOR is fun, but like many said, its fun for a bit then it wears off.

Pretty much any game on the market is more active and populated than WoW, so take your pick.  If you want to be around a ton of people that chat constantly, try Star Trek Online. LotRo used to have an active community as well.   It's 50/50 with SW:TOR. My server has a few people in zones but it seems very, very quiet. Aion is a pretty quiet game but you see people in the world.  Rift didn't have a lot of chatting on my server but you always saw people in the world.

Quoted for truth. Probably even less than 150 hours.

Last I heard Korean Aion was doing very well.

    Lineage 2 is also thriving.

In the West, you've got EVE.

Um do I even need to point out how false this is?

EQ2 Freeport or AB server is a good bet.  More population than the average Rift or SWtoR server (but not as high as the top servers on those games) but a LOT more content and it feels a little further from WoW than the other two.

    Farmville..... Next question.

STO might be worth a look - changing community at the moment. Once you get access to zone chat (20 hours playtime) the world is yours. It spans across different instances of people in the same zone. Fairly nice people around but there's always the occasional troll or Trekkie conversation gone too deep. People do love poking fun at the ridiculousness of their own world though. XD

I find myself enjoying PvP when I get a team that has decent skill and doesn't use the 'I can totally beat 5 ships solo' tactic.

Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?

I'm going to throw you a curve ball OP...maybe what you should do in the interim is try to expand your horizons a little? Try something really new.

To that I suggest WWII Online (aka Battlefield Europe).  One server...people are always chatty (it's the nature of the game).  It's an MMOFPS/simulator.

In fact, anyone who's in an RPG rut, I suggest trying this game.

I would say SWTOR or RIFT, then as secondary AOC, LOTRO, EQ2 would all be good choices for the short term.

Not sure about SWTOR, its like junk food kinda nice at the time (even though you know you shouldn't) but leaves a crappy taste afterwards.

Seriously though if you are looking to kill 3 months or so you'd be better off with Rift unless you approach  SWTOR pretty casualy. AoC & LOTRO might be fun (and free to start) if you can find a populace server.

I guess I could have started off with  "Based on my experience".  I just assumed that it was implied.

Last 2 characters I leveled in Warcraft, there was one person in the zones.  Me.

All cities are dead except for SW and ORG and considering that all of the faction population are in their respective capital city, there really isn't a lot of people.

But yeah, I must be making it all up.
