Should GW2 be delayed...?

slicknslim88slicknslim88 Member Posts: 394

After checking out as much closed Beta footage and previews/reviews as I could, I'me extremely happy at all of the positive feedback.  The game I've been waiting on seems to be in tip top shape even in closed beta stage more or less.

The recurring criticism that I've seen however is the crafting system.  So here is the big question that I'm sure Anet is asking themselves right now.  Should we stick with our crafting system?  Or should we take extra time and come up with something thats innovative and unique?  This may not be exactly what they are asking themselves, but I'm sure it's crossed their minds.

But what if they asked the fans to decide, after all we have been waiting a LONG time for this game.  If Anet came out with an announcement and asked for support basically asking the questions in the poll.  What would you all answer them with?

without a release date we cant really say delay it, and they have always said they will release it when its ready, so pointless for us to tell them to release it now, its never gonna happen.

I chose extra time and make changes where needed. As to whether that is the case needed with this game at this time I have no idea.

Kind of hard to fairly assess without seeing for myself forsthand. No offense to those that have played it but for most of them seems to me they tend to go overboard and not be real objective when they first get their hands on these games.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

the following is a picture of me caring about the crafting:

oh wait. there isn't one. nevermind. in my opinion it looks like anet just has to finish off the sylvari and asura, tweak some bits, optimize some, etc. it doesn't look like there's a huge amount left for them to do honestly. obviously they still have their work cut out for them, but it looks like it's almost upon us, and i don't want to see "oh we decided that we didn't like this major mechanic, so we started over." leave that for after release (if it even needs reworking). otherwise we'll all be sitting here until 2013.

Anet needs to release GW2 ASAP because people(me) are going Insane over how long their having to wait, and there's no MMO's worth getting Into right now.

If ANet asked us (which they won't) if they should continue development or release the game, then and only then would I worry about it.  I think it's on schedule and the fact that you don't have to create several of the same item in crafting in order to level makes it better than WoW's already.

it will never be ready. hold it back one year two years, will still need work.  when it comes out there will be major bugs and things wrong with the game. mmorpg players will never be happy.

for me i say bring it out now. if you got a good base game lets go with that and work on it along the way.

I say Release NOW I LOVE BUGS.  Honestly Anet cant hope to release the perfect game no matter how many beta tests they throw.  The best way to fix a game is to release it to the community and get direct feedback from a player rather than someone who works for the press or works at ANet.  They really need the common folk to measure their game.

So yes release guild wars 2  not now , but real soon and just patch the game where needed or make radical changes. The game is downloadable which means the whole formula can be changed and written over your program file so why not just release it?

exactly. you can polish it, but you can't perfect it. so i say polish it up, and ship it out.

    EDIT: what bilbo said, too

I'm as anxious as the next fan for the game to be released already, but I think it's already ahead of schedule and won't be more than 3 months away, if that.  Of course I can't be sure, but I think if there are any bugs, they're minor at this point, so maybe we'll get our hands on it soon.

It's the one part of the game they didn't think needed change so, let's leave it where it's at or else we'll get some nasty looking old guy acting as a workstation that asks you to "bring your shinies" or something more grotesque.

    This is not a game.

Yeah, just like EA/Bioware did with SWTOR! And that turned out just fine.

    Patience, grasshopper.

Yeah, I have to agree. What's the rush? Best to let the game come out when they feel it is fully ready to do so.

Unless some prefer it to be put through the ringer like other games have that were clearly launched before their time.

Ironically though, I thought SWTOR was a decent launch. Least compared to most as of late. Rift being the obvious exception.

they might even have it out around May to compete with Tera and TSW haha.

After watching so many videos and seeing so much polish on the game in its current state, I find it incredibly hard to believe that it needs much more time in the oven.  Just release it already.

LOL your answers are so biaised.

and the three first come down to the same: wait that it's ready before release.

I answered the last one just to troll you, but it cracked me up when I saw it was the most answered one.

    haha.

I hope it gets published already as a FINISHED product, so i wouldn't mind extra time taken in development and finishes, what mostly concern me in general gameplay is the lack of collisons, after AoC and DCUO i get nausea every time i see people passing through each other or through an NPC... just like seeing a poltergeist passing through a wall.

PS: ahh yeah, poll gently sux, the answers are not really mutually exclusive.

Crafting is the least of my worries in GW2. Crafting always sucks in MMOs and its always boring.

Last time someone tried to be innovative and change crafting as far as I know was FFXIV. They tried to turn it into a mini game and that was some of the worst crafting I have ever done.

Not to say that crafting should be boring and the same in every game, there is room for improvement for sure, but I think people (including myself) are tired of waiting for GW2. They can fix crafting stuff through patches. I just want to play this game when it is ready for prime time! :D

Revamping the crafting system is one of the easier things to do after release. EQ2 have done it with some success to mention one game.

I don´t think delaying the game 6 months or so just for the crafting is worth it. If combat, skills or PvP isn´t right then they should delay the game but while crafting indeed is a part of the game it is one part that you can change while you release an expansion or something.

  • slicknslim88slicknslim88 Member Posts: 394

I've read many of your posts, and I agree that crafting is always the most boring part of an MMO.  Take WoW for example, it's crucial at end game, but getting your professions to the max level is just excruciating busy work.  I would sooner pay somebody to do it than do it myself.

That is why I think Anet should either revamp the crafting system and take a little more time, or do it after they release it through patches.  I would much rathert hey release it, then patch it after release.  GW2 is doing everything so damn well, that is a shame that the crafting isn't right in it.  It's breaking the mold on so many things, it should break the mold on crafting too and make it not so much busy work.

But tbh, I don't care so much about the crafting either tbh.  The game looks really tight and polished as is.  And believe me I would be completely content if the game didn't even HAVE a crafting system.  At least it has one thats pretty decent at least.

Remove crafting.  Just get rid of it.  Nobody needs it.

I think crafting is best handled SWG-style, or even Ragnarok Online style.  The people who make things have an entire class based around it.  It doesn't make sense to me to be both a seasoned, successful adventurer AND a master blacksmith or jeweler or whatever.

SWG had a very interesting setup in regards to that, and I'd love to see another MMO implement the idea of "Non-Combat Classes."  They're fantastic for roleplayers, too, especially things like Entertainers.

I agree, crafting is just busy work no matter how you slice it.  Instead of forumlating a crafting system, they should focus that time and attention on adding something awsome in the game, like several more dungeons, or several more awsome dynamic events.  Things that players truly WANT, rather than a decent crafting system to keep players busy if they are bored...in order to keep them more bored.
