I'm seriously considering not renewing my subscription. Today we had a big fight up in tenal and we crashed the game. There were only 300 people involved. It seems lately anytime you have more than 20 people in a fight the game lags so bad its unplayable. To me the game is all about major alliance fleet combat. Balls to the wall - 100's of people - 100's of pods.. Well its just not doable any longer. I don't know where the game is heading but its not heading in the direction i want to see it go.

but anyway - fleet lag is from graphics more then from net i think - i was in FA many times in big fleet battles - and was't that bad
Whats your system specs? High? Low? Mid?
Imagine if this game was as popular as EQ or even WoW EVE is gaining subscribers and its pushing the limits on their whole idea of having just one server, at least that's my guess. Or it could just be a bad week. Has CCP ever said they would consider making a second server if many more people actually start playing or do they believe in their technology and concept?
honestly they should make a non pvp server really so many are just waiting for that , you know a server where you can just travel and explore the far reach of space .
i know myself i dont engage much in pvp because am in a manufacturing corp but 2 servers for each type of player would be nice i think even though eve core game is pvp .
I've had only a few problems with Eve. I find the game fantastic and also amazing that they can host that many players simultaneously.
Sorry about your crash, but I haven't played a game yet that doesn't crash in some way or another. WOW crashed on my occassionally, EQ1 used to bump me out. Sorry you're going to cancel your subscription.
Can you give me your stuff before you stop playing??? I could certainly use it. Just send a message to my in box and I'll give you my character name. Thanks.
I agree, I'm not too fond of PvP myself (<--carebear -.-).
However, it's the PvP atmosphere of the game, that makes it interesting in a way. But I'm sure CCP can work out someway to make PvP only in selected areas, and not possible everywhere in the future.
Until then, we have CONCORD
Seriously, simply turning off all turret effects ctrl+alt+shift+t , reduces about 95% of lag found in large fleet battles/mission running. It dosen't make the game ugly by any sense of the word and you can still see missiles/webs/scramblers and even bubbles being used without lagging. We've had several 100+ ship fleet battles, many of which involved having 4-5 bubbles in the field where we were fighting and no one complained about lag, no one dropped, no crashes or anything.
Yeah, there are instances where there are random server problems (got stuck in Uhodoh for like 2 days) but that's to be expected when playing an MMO and to tell you the truth, EVE has much smaller problems than most others I have played. Never in the 8 months I've been playing now have I seen or even heard of a problem so major that it caused a rollback in the server database (something that has happened to me several times in EVERY other MMO I have ever played for a long period of time).

No you guys are missing the point. I always have effects off. My system is top notch. During our fight you couldnt even log into EVE. People got booted from the server and couldnt get back into the fight. We actually crashed it with a fleet fight. Fleets in the south were locked up from it lol. It was horrible. It had nothing to do with graphics it was all about the servers.
SOOO it appears that Fleet battles of more than 20 on each side are going to be a thing of the past. CCP has decided since they cant fix the lag issue they will change the way things are done by putting in the new sovergnty system. What this means is instead of the fun huge fleet fight we now get to shoot at pos's for 10 hours and then come back the next day to finish them off. We couldnt fight it out yesterday to remove xelas once and for all so today we spent 8 hours killing pos's so we could take a station they couldnt even defend. So get used to pos wars because thats the wave of the future.
I seriously doubt i'll renew my eve account. I love the game the way it was. Massive fleet combat.. Massive carnage.. Might made right. Now industrialists can take systems just by hauling up more pos's.

Hello Copeland,
Please check my message to you in your MMORPG inbox. Many thanks!

If the stations are slowing down the pace of PvP combat that much then I imagine they will get a nerf sooner rather than later or I imagine others will quit with the same line of thinking you have. Player made structures are a great addition to the game but they can't be created in such a way that it takes an evening just to mindlessly blow them up to actually start taking over an area of space.
As for a PvE server...the game would be kinda gimped up. Lots of miners in the PvE world and the pirates/bounty hunters staying for the PvP. Giving the choice between a PvP/PvE land reminds of the UO trammel/feluccia split and what I consider one of the biggest downfalls of the game.
Well dreadnoughts and titans will make it much easier to take down pos's. You'll still have to wait hours when they go into reinforced mode though. So in order to take a soverign system your looking at at least 2 days if your enemy knows what they're doing and even then its not going to be hard to run a freighter through a blockade with 10-15 more pos's inside of it.
I don't so much mind the pos wars. What i do mind is the elimination of major fleet combat. 20 on 20 is fun. We went down to stain last weekend and did a 20 on 20 and kicked butt. Then ofcourse 5 blobbed us with 34 and were crying that we wouldnt fight them... (see my other post)

eve server is a set of clusters - many servers - for me - one world means i can play with everyone , im personally dont like idea where you have many separate servers and i cant play with my friends
you have non pvp serwer now... you playing on it - empire 1.0-0.5
and its really big space to explore

Just because its 1.0-0.5 doesnt mean its non pvp. It just means when someone kills you they'll get killed too.

I know where you're coming from with this, but I honestly think this would be terrible for the game. One of the things that makes EVE special is that it is one world, there is one cohesive, persistent universe that all the players deal with. For example, whomever controls Curse, simply controls Curse ... they don't control Curse on server A, they control Curse period. It makes the game that much more real, that much more persistent and immersive. It would be really bad for the game to be played on multiple servers at this point.
As for PvP vs. non-PvP I hear where you are coming from as well, but I think that when this happens it really kills PvP, because the vast majority of the people go to the non-PvP server (like happened with UO). It's a balance issue as to how to make the game enjoyable for both PvPers and non-PvPers. CCP's approach has been to make 0.5-1.0 relatively safer (but as Copeland points out, if someone is willing to get blown up by Concord, they can still attack you there), but the core concept of the game is that EVE is a dangerous universe, and so nothing is supposed to be risk-free. That's why CCP hasn't done anything about ore thieves in high security empire space, for example, despite the whinging, or why they don't allow people to secure cannisters in the highest security space, or why they allow per the game mechanics for players to tank the sentry guns and gank players at gates in mid-security space and so forth ... nothing is supposed to be risk-free. It gives the game an edge. You have to watch yourself, and be aware that in different areas there are different risks. Honestly, transiting through high security space there is no real risk ... but mining there alone can be risky because you are exposed to ore thieves. Going into lower security space, you need to know what you are doing, have scouts, use the map, rig your ship for running and the like ... it's all a part of the core dynamic of EVE.
Yes i have to agree about pve world killing the mood of eve i just didnt see it that way , ccp may be one of the only company that i believe in .
Been playing since fev 2004 and still loving it . too bad the Moo lefted they were such trouble makers :P
Well thanks for clearing that up for me , eve is still changing and when i used to be in the curse alliance there was action every night .
Lol, yeah, if you think your safe in 1.0 ... you're dreaming ... and I don't mean due to an empire DED sanctionned war. Of course, you are well protected by CONCORD and so on but ... just make sure you don't piss off the wrong people, or else, you might get a bounty of 50M on your head and you might end up getting podded ... over ... and over ... and over ... until the person is content and stops paying out 50M bounties for your corpse.
Pirating is such a thing of the pass ... suicide bounty hunting is the way of the future, oh yeah.

Thanks for this info, I was considering this game as its appeal has shown rise, but if lag is a major issue....no thanks.

Lag is only an issue under extreme circumstances. For the most part the game is lag free.

Lol, I'm not sure. Cold War rerouting has resulted in a real boon to low sec empire piracy. The highways really made it such that noone who didnt want to be in empire low sec had to be there really. Now with the old highways dismantled, people are faced with a choice between a 15 jump route through a few pirate hotpsots and a 24 jump route through 0.5 and above space ... which I think is a good thing because it makes the game edgier and encourages development of regions and so forth, but another thing it does is improve the situation for low sec empire piracy.
Oh please put a bounty of 100 million on my head..........I can use the money. Bountries are a ripoff. You put a big one on somebody they have their friends pod them and spilt the cash. For 100 million i can replace all the implants i got...........and have some left over.
I've had no serious lag problem.

Look, just forget making this game carebear. Read the September issue of PC Gamer and understand what the writer is talking about. This game is cut throat and occupies a much needed niche in the MMORPG world. Excellent article in September issue describing the dynamics of this game and what makes it hard core.
There are so many good games out there that are care bear. WOW, EQ2 are two examples. Go enjoy them! I went through both of them before I realized that Eve was my ticket. Hopefully all of you will find yours as well. Enjoy.
lol, if you read my post over again, you'll see that I never mentionned using the bounty system in-game. On top of that, you can only add bounties to people who are of negative security standing (most of the targets we get paid to take out are positive) , dosen't matter whether they are in 0.0 or 1.0, for sacrificing a cruiser for 50M is well worth it in my books.
Besides the point, 100M dosen't cover any decent implants. I mean, you might get a +4 perception for that price, whoop de doo. The game has really changed since the cold war began, although, 99% of the battles are now between alliances and asteroid belts, all rushing to get their dreadnaughts on to speed and some outposts setup in decent regions of space.
To add to the humour ... the <MC> have accepted a contract against <ASCN>. It's rather amusing since all of ASCN was ordered back into Impass and Feythabolis and most of the one's left in empire are using alts to trasnport anything of value. Don't think anyone told them that the Mercs rarely if ever fly deep into 0.0 space. They specialize in ganking, something hard to do when your flying through space where your either an ally or a target. Add to the fact that they cannot dock anywhere within 30 jumps of our nearest stations and us claiming sovereignty in most of the constallations we claim (alot of bugs surrounding POS since the patch) ... I really doubt they will come after us. Well, I guess if people wanna piss away 5 Billion ISK a week or whatever it costs now a days to hire the mercs, it's up to them.
Yes, off topic by a long shot but hey, so is everyone else.

i think this is highely unlikely they would ever do this for a number of reasons.
1. the wholepoint of Eve in the first place was to have one shard one Universe.
2. this would be very bad for the economy and manufacturing in general. who would you sell your mods and ships too, if they didn't need to replace them from PvP fighting?
IMHO opinion, if they ever got rid of alts, then Concorde would be more than sufficient to protect people from malicious characters.
If they did split the servers as suggest, i think it would be the beginning of the end for Eve.
