Which one

I want to get an MMORPG, I am considering Guild Wars, Everquest II, World of Warcraft, or Final Fantasy XI. I am a casual gamer, and I want to be able to play other games too so I won't be constantly on. I don't mind paying the fee, as long as any one of the other games much better then Guild Wars. Guild Wars is the one I'm kind of leaning to, since it seems to be directed at casual gamers, and has no fee, but I heard World of Warcraft is the best, EverQuest II has the best graphics, and Final Fantasy XI has been around longest and it probabally most established, and seems like it would be most fun to me. That's why I was asking which you guys think is best, thanks :)

World of Warcraft or Guild Wars would be best for your considering you are classifying yourself as a casual gamer. My preference of the two would be World of Warcraft since it best comprises the MMOG picture, but if you love head-to-head PvP action that you can jump into with little warning then Guild Wars may be just your ticket.

    I would recommend this:
Get EQII's free trial (Trial of the Isle) and try it out. Play around with the various noob classes to level 6 and play around with crafting, which you can take to level 8 or 9 on the isle and see how you like the game at that level. It'll give you a good feel for the game.

Then, find a friend who HAS the game and get them to get you a buddy code and use their DVD's to install the full game. The buddy code will give you 14 days of full access to the game (and I think you can use it with your trial account so you can continue with those characters)

That will allow you to decide, without ever spending a time, if you like EQ2 or not.

I believe WoW also has a free trial in last month's PCGamer (came with a DVD I think). You could try that.

I don't recommend FFXI... It's a decent game but I felt it was missing something intangible. EQ2 is by far the most polished of the 3. WoW is very easy to learn and very fast levelling. EQ2 is moderately paced levelling but there's tons more to do in the game.

Just my 2.5 cents. Good luck whatever you decide.

Well I've already ordered WoW, but if that one doesn't seem to be to my liking, I'll check out EQ2. Thanks :)

Unless you're a really experienced MMORPG player (and some like it even if they are) you'll probably love WoW for a while.... usually seems to be about 4-6 months... before you start getting bored with it. Hopefully by then they'll have added more content to the end game so that people don't get so bored.

If not, we'll see ya in EQ2 in about 4-6 months :)

No, I'm not an expert at all in MMORPGs, I've never played an MMORPG before (I played The Sims Online though which is kind of similar though)

if you're a beginner and want to have the taste of a real MMO, go with world of warcraft. FFXI requires you to be quite dedicated to get far, Eq2 is probably for more experienced MMO goers. Guild Wars will keep you interested as long as any other $50 dollar game on the shelf, a month or two.

WoW i would say for you.

It is probably the most casual along with guild wars .

It is also a "plug and play" mmorpg.Very easy to get into and is the ideal first mmorpg if you are new to the genre.

It has more to do then guild wars and is more fun but only downside is GW is free and WoW is monthly pay.

Well thank you, I have odered WoW, but EQ2 also seems very good so I do want to try that game out at some point. Thanks to all replies. I don't need this thread to remain open any more, I have my answer. Thank you :) I might also perhaps try Guild Wars when it settles down. (The thought that there are 3.5 million other people playing is somewhat overwhelming)

Why the heck do people consider wow fast leveling?

SHADOWBANE was fast leveling--I dont find any lvls in wow particular fast
--unless you guys think it should take a full year of your life to get a max lvl charachter

TO your question- I think you should try a free trial of EQ2 also--and the WoW free trial.
Go from there. I hear way too many desparaging remarks about Final Fantasy.

Even for a casual gamer Guild Wars can get old kinda quick.

I think wow is very fast leveling compared to games like eq2, lineage2, final fantasy although there is still a grind at upper lvls. But I agree shadowbane was fast, you had time to try out many classes without the tedious grind.

I think what makes wow feel faster is that you can blow through low lvls quickly, solo or grouped. Hmm, I quess wow is just faster and more solo friendly then the others I have played.

Obviously WoW is fast levelling compared to those grindfest games. I've played for 2 days in game time and I'm only level 20, and I'm pretty sure that is not blowing through low levels quickly.

It just depends how you play, MMORPGers nowadays just like to grind through the levels to get to the max level, but I think getting to the max level is the fun part.

I myself would suggest FFXI, i played it last year for 4 months straight till i lost my internet connection and gave the game back my my friend. But then again it's the only game out of the list that i've played so i might be somewhat biased...
