Hey everyone from the MMORPG community, this is my first post, eep. I need to find a new game and I want YOU to help me! (slave labor ftw). I've been playing games for a long time and I'm going to post a list below of which ones i've played with ratings. Hope you can help! Thanks.
Game Name |
Genre |
Rating |
Brief Description |
World of Warcraft |
MMORPG |
8.5/10 |
I was addicted to this game. Lootwhoring is my thing. |
Warhammer Online |
MMORPG |
9/10 |
Rates high because of this games sheer potential. Unforunately bioware failed to deliver. |
Diablo II: Exp |
ARTS |
9.5/10 |
I think most of my love of this game is derived from nostalgia. |
Starcraft II |
RTS |
7/10 |
Couldn't enjoy this game as much as I wanted due to technical inefficiencies. |
Starcraft: Brood War |
RTS |
4/10 |
The graphics made me want to tear my eyes out, even for in it's time. |
Realm of the Mad God |
RPG |
6/10 |
Longevity is important to me. |
Counter-Strike: 1.5 |
Shooter |
7.5/10 |
I liked it for it's base game play, it had its problems though. |
Counter-Strike: 1.6 |
Shooter |
9.5/10 |
The extremely well-made successor to 1.5, and one of my all time favorite games. Repetitiveness is O.K. in my book. |
Counter-Strike: Source |
Shooter |
7/10 |
Hitboxes, 'nough said. |
Call of Duty: Modern Warefare 2 |
Shooter |
8/10 |
My first next-gen shooter that I played on my first HD graphics card on my first widescreen. Was glorious. |
Runescape |
MMORPG |
6/10 |
Only played it because my friends did, about 6 years ago. |
DotA |
MOBA |
10/10 |
This game is amazing. It's insanely high skill cap and repetitive play makes it perfect for me. The community USED TO BE good, but now I don't know. |
Warcraft III: FT Custom Games |
RTS |
8/10 |
I could sink an incredible amount of time, that I deemed worth it, into user-made maps. |
Allods Online |
MMORPG |
7/10 |
I really don't like not having an auto attack, as noob as that sounds. I didn't really give this game the time I think it deserved. I quit when I heard it was pay2win. |
Knight Online |
MMORPG |
7.5/10 |
About 7.5 of that rating is because I'm a loot whore. Getting massive quantities of gold literally makes me laugh in a maniacal manner. I couldn't continue past about level 38 because I couldn't communicate with the mostly Turkish community. |
Gunbound |
Shooter |
7/10 |
I played this a lot because of it's repetitive quality, and I was good at it. It was a little too cute for me though. |
Rift |
MMORPG |
7.5/10 |
Mind you, I only played the beta, but when I played it, I got the infamous "I could just be playing WoW feeling". |
Star Wars: The Old Republic |
MMORPG |
N/A |
Couldn't give this a rating because I was barely able to play up to level 3 in the beta without my computer having a heart attack. Never really was one for Star Wars anyway. |
Hellgate: London |
MMO Shooter |
6/10 |
Even though I'm a heart throb for repetitive games, this one took it too far. |
Lord of the Rings: Online |
MMORPG |
5/10 |
Tasteless, again got the "I could be playing WoW" feeling. |
Dungeons and Dragons: Online |
MMORPG |
6.5/10 |
Couldn't handle it's P2AP(Pay to actually play) aspect, felt like I was missing too much. |
Vindictus |
MMOHAS |
8/10 |
I absolutely love this game. It's revolutionary for free to play games. This would be a 9/10 for me if it wasn't so cutesy. |
City of Heroes |
MMORPG |
6/10 |
Was fun, when I was young. Doesn't have the smoothest game play for me. |
DC Universe: Online |
MMORPG |
8/10 |
I got to level 30 in 4 days. I think I may have assassinated the chances of me playing this in the near future by cramming too much in my head at once. |
League of Legends |
MOBA |
8.5/10 |
I loved playing this with my friends, not quite as much as DotA. I have two pet peeves. One: As I'm writing this, Riot Games is f***ing up this game beyond repair. Two: The community is the worst community I've ever played with. |
Heroes of Newerth |
MOBA |
7/10 |
Tried to be DotA, failed at developing in the same fashion as DotA. |
Runes of Magic |
MMORPG |
6/10 |
"Why am I not playing WoW". |
Maplestory |
2DMMO |
3/10 |
Terrible, just terrible. |
Rakion |
MMOHAS |
7/10 |
This rating would be higher, but the game is so incredibly prone to hackers. The game also went undeveloped for an extremely long time (still might be, haven't checked). |
Wakfu |
MMORPG |
5/10 |
Not a fan of turnstyles. Game and graphics are too simplistic. |
Silkroad Online |
MMORPG |
5/10 |
Too eastern. |
Shaiya |
MMORPG |
4/10 |
Pretty bad game, didn't even have time to start comparing it to WoW before I logged off. |
Halo 3 |
Shooter |
8/10 |
If you're my age, all of your friends were probably playing this. So it had the friend factor, which is always good. |
Bloodline Champions |
MOBA |
8/10 |
Only scores and 8 due to its high focus on european players (I'm an arrogant american), ergo I can't get a good ping. |
DotA 2 |
MOBA |
9/10 |
Only thing knocking off a point are subtle annoyances. (but it's still beta, horrah) |
Killing Floor |
Shooter |
7/10 |
Not much of a zombie slayer (me). |
Savage |
RTS |
6/10 |
Had interesting game play, wasn't what I was looking for. |
I can't think of anything at the moment, I'll edit it in later if I do.
I've tried probably somewhere inbetween this amount and twice this amount of random games that I absolutely hated and felt it didn't earn a second look.
Welp, hope you can help me! Thanks again!
Comments
I would suggest: Everquest 2 or Vanguard: Saga of Heroes
Vindictus is "cutesy"? Explain that one please.
Mind you, I would be playing Vindictus all day if it ran smoother on my PC, it's graphics are pretty good.
I would suggest: Everquest 2 or Vanguard: Saga of Heroes
Thanks, Ill give both of those a look.
You seem to like balanced PVP (as opposed to ganking), so I'm going to say you should try Guild Wars, which is very nearly the only MMORPG to try to create balanced PVP. Some will insist that it isn't an MMORPG, but from your list, I don't think that sort of hair-splitting will bother you. Nothing on that list makes me think that a slower paced, grindier game like Vanguard or EQ2 (as an above poster recommended) would be up your alley.
Vanguard = Why am I not playing WoW?
EQ2 = 3D runescape.
Just my opinions, I'll check out Guild Wars.
Given your opinions on games so far I don't think you'll like GW much. If you so play: Skip the RP character creation and go for the PvP option. Puts you right a lvl cap. As a WoW player that alone should intrique you.
I'm getting the impression you don't like games with graphics that aren't WoW-like. ie: cartoony. Nothing wrong with that; just a matter of taste.
You never stated why you need a new game. If WoW is your litmus why leave it then?

I didn't realize I needed to reveal my intentions...
Anyway, they ruined WoW with cataclsym and I'm looking for something that can offer me almost an original WoW feel with extra features.
Trust me, I have played World Of Warcraft for some years and also alot of other mmorpgs. Don't go after the look, because sometime it will take a week before you find out that a game is awesome! World of Warcraft is not "the one", there are plenty of them!
I'll give this one bump.
Atlantica Online ,well that was easy

Let's internet
Looking at your list there is one game that is notoriously missing if you are someone who is a loot-who*e.
That game is Asheron's Call.
Yes it is OLD but it is the game that invented the fast paced playstyle you see in a game like vindictus.
In essence yes you can dodge spells etc.
50 monsters on you at a time can be doable.
It has the best loot system of any game hands down. You can get say an amuli leggings which has abdomen coverage, upper legs, and lower legs that might or might not match something that you have and might have a 237 AL (or a 135 AL) and might have good resistances to something you need or have a really big hole (0.3x AL to cold making you really vulnerable if a cold critter hits your legs) and might be self buffing in several ways and have minor pierce warding and major life magic boost. This vs say a plate grieves which only covers the lower legs and might have 320 AL but be heavy for just the one slot and might be BAD against fire and electricity but have major strength on it and minor constitution and minor sword mastery and be of a low enough workmanship to be tinkered 5 times safely...
That's just plain sad. Is this really what gamers want? Really?

I think it's an eastern thing .
Hard to please? Alright, try Achaea. This game recently got me -addicted-. It has player-run guilds and cities so basically if you make a name for yourself, you can rule an entire city of other players. They are 6 major city-factions, and they constantly have raids upon each other. PK can be done anywhere, but there are rules to keep griefers away. As well, there are a bunch of different classes, each with really different strategies. Lastly, there are "Gods" in Achaea, like mods, but they run events. For example, recently, there was a "Bazaar" in which you could buy limited-time items using in game money. People were warned not to break the items, but one person decided to be a smart ass and dropped a globe. The mod coded it so everybody got a disease from breathing from the air (the globe contained dust) and everybody was on a quest to find a way to cure it.
P.S This game is RP enforced. You can get OOC help pretty easily, but you gotta roleplay a character.
Perhaps next time lead off telling us it's a TEXT based game.
EVE Online son. Play it.
Really? What's with the 5 new Achaea bots running around? Can't these guys get banned?
This is exactly how a LFG should be. Really, that was a great opening post. (no sarcasm) The only other information that probably should be present is an answer to the question, "What kind of game are you looking for OP? MMORPG? Singple player FPS? Third person stealth?" That way we know what you're wanting. Otherwise, I am impressed. Most people write 2 or 3 barely readable lines then expect a good recommendation.
Try Battleground Europe....http://www.battlegroundeurope.com/
Awesome realism, PVP is 10/10, play as many tipes of infantry (1st person shooter mode), artillery, armour-tanks, ships, and air (figters and bombers) all first person.
I've been crazy about WoW for about 6 years now, and I haven't logged once since I've tried this.
14 days free trial.
Good luck!
Earlier you said you'd only played Rift in beta and you said why not play WoW?
Well from my understanding Rift is the closest thing to what you are looking for... why not give it another try since its been a year from the last time you tried it.
