Realm of the Mad God

Overall Rating: 6/10

What is Realm of the Mad God?

Well the developers describe the game as a Co-operative Fantasy Massive Multiplayer Shooter. Yeah its a bit of a mouthful but describes the game very well. Your objective is to play as a class and shoot monsters to gain new gear, experiance and become the most famous adventuer around.

Gameplay.

The game has a classic 2.5D feel to it very comparable to the original Runescape classic. With the controls being simple to use and the game being very basic its very simple to pick up. Although the game is simple and the graphics are very retro it has a very addictive gameplay to it. Your'll think to yourself why am I still playing this? Yet, another 10minutes pass and your asking yourself the same question. (We've all been there and yes I do talk to myself). Character customization is very limited but the amount of classes is good. With there being currently  13 classes. Your automatically start as a Wizard and are thrown into the game turtorial  without having to register or download any client which is nice. Each class requires you to play a class to a certain level before the class becomes unlockable. For example the Priest class requires you to be a level 5 Wizard before your able to play that certain class, each class has its own requirments. This gives your a goal and reason to play over and over until you attain the class you desire. Leveling is easy at first but become more difficult as you begin to hit the latter stages as bosses become harder and most likely require assistance from team mate or other surronding players. Party's are not formed manually. If a player is within a certain radius he is automatically partied with you and you gain the same amount of exp as you would sololy, so there is massive benefits playing with other players. It just makes the game much easier in general. The biggest thing I should mention is that you play with only one life, there is no repawn (without purchasing an item with fame which I will tell you about soon). Once you die you will have to start again as that class from level one again. You will lose all your equipment and everything you have in your invent unless your store it away in the vault. This could be seen as a con, but I generally think it makes you play over and over again until you get what you want.

Fame.

Ive mentioned Fame on more then one occasion. Yes it is a currency in the game. It is also how the top players are ranked on the leaderboards. Fame is only gained after you die. So you wont know how well you are doing beforehand. As you progress through the game increaseing your levels and gaining equipment defeating higher level bosses. This will all determine your fame at the end.

Fame can be use to purchase such items like protection necklaces which with prevent you from dieing and boost certain stats very useful item.

Do I have to pay?

No. The game is Free. Yes it does a micro system but not one you really have to invest in to gain a massive advatage. You can play the game quite happily without paying for it. Not saying you shouldn't because all games need support. If you enjoy it and play, show the developers your support by donating. (I know its not but its a good way to describe it).

I know the review is short but I'm not the best at this. I hope it gives you some insight into the game. Its free, its addictive. Give it a go.

The problem with this game is that it lags when too much shit happens on your screen. When you're lagging, you're probably going to die. Even if you're equipped with overpowered gear. And when you die, you die for good -- plus your corpse doesn't drop your items.

It becomes a repetitive and annoying process to die for no reason. If they fixed the lag, this game would be amazing.

I liked this game a lot, the idea of perma death may be scary at first but the fact that you can hit the level cap in like 30 minutes if you do it right makes it a lot less daunting. It's a really cool game, but it just doesn't have enough persistance or anything like that, you basically level up and try to gear yourself up and get on the leaderboards, other than that it doesn't have anything to do. Run and gun, level all the different classes (which there is a lot) and try to get gear. It gets old quick, but it's a very cool game none the less.

I have experianced this slightly, but only when a large group of players are grouped and a large mob is around which is understandable. Even some of the biggest games on in the market have lag issues. There are many servers and many rooms if you continuely join the most popular ones then you will get similar results just like any other game.

Normally Lag isnt thier fault or the games code. Its generally the latency between you and the server, which is unfixable.
