Ive seen a few posts over the last week about people concerned about Lag in WvWvW......Well ladies and Gentlemens I give you Yogcast's latest Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxeffOuV_5o&list=UUH-_hzb2ILSCo9ftVSnrCIQ&index=1&feature=plcp
Scroll to the 14:00 mark and notice a huge group of people beating on a door with very little lag.....lets also not confuse the fact the game is in Alpha still and hardly any optimization has been done and the servers havnt been stressed yet either.

Yea but the thing that concerns me is they said that last year at one of the Cons and either they have toned it down or they havnt gotten to it yet. I just hope they tone it way down more then what it is now.

Actually there is lag (high ping) because he is playing from the UK, on US servers. However there isn't massive framerate dips. Also one has to keep in mind that he's running Fraps, so just add on about an extra 15fps, that Fraps will take off and you'll have some smooth, large scale PvP.
Semi Ninja'd ^_^
They mentioned it during last weeks Reddit post, that their programmers & tech artists are still looking into the issue of spell effects.
Too bad really, I like the chaos that the flashy effects add to the combat.
Makes it seem more like a real battle to me.
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
They're also working on the spell effects, as they're well aware of the 'effects soup' in big fights
It sounds like they're scaling down the individual effects of every spell depending on how many are being used. So a single spells still looks good, but a load don't look ridiculous.
Thats good, any developer with experiance should know how to stablize servers. NC soft has a ton of experiance, so even if the dev team didnt know NC soft probubly could awnser the question for them.
Because i can.
I'm Hopeful For Every Game, Until the Fan Boys Attack My Games. Then the Knives Come Out.
Logic every gamers worst enemy.
ya i like too, they could add option to put it down and if u prefer keep it high,
that would be awsome lol

I like flashy effects, but there is a point to where it becomes too much. I would hope they would impliment a mechanic that dimishes the look of other players effects, while keeping your own looking powerful.
Great video, WvW looks very well done, way better than alliance battles. which is good cause so many mmo fail on the endgame content.
although the darkfaller inside me still cringes at the disgusting lack of friendly fire
My blog:
Great video i'm glad the supply have such an impact on the fight, it will bring a lot strategy and a lot of small group/solo impact as well.
Friendly fire... no thanks.
(There would be no Press Beta if it were in Alpha) ;-)
Anyway...I'm looking forward to this game more and more. It is looking really good.
confusing to some but the game is in beta, the server and network they used was alpha .
They want you to be able to see which skills are being used visually, rather than having to look at the ui. However, they have acknowledged that the "particle effects soup" can bee too much at times and are looking at options for allowing it to be tuned down a bit.
I hope it is done via options, because I like the effects mostly as is, but I would like to be able to be more selective in which area of effect circles get displayed and how.

Yeah. The entire design of the game is based around cooperative game play that limits or eliminates as many avenues for potential griefing as possible.

I would not be suprised if their were multiple sliders for spell effects in the end, like EQ had back in the day, so I don't see why they won't be able to do the same.
Melee players would have an awesome time with FF.
Agreed. When you solo you could add any amount of flashy effects but as soon as you group they can easily add together to make combat feel like some cheap vegas style X-mas lightning. And when you are a huge number of players on screen it gets extremely annoying.
I prefer a slider to how much effects you should see so I can pick the perfect amount myself (and raise it for the personal story).
Same. Even though I love the flashy animations and spell effects I only like them when its small scale groups, when you got to many player flinging different animations all over the place it can look a bit gaudy for my tastes so hopefully we can tone it donw our selves with sliders in the GFX settings.
