I've been playing MMOs for most of my life, and specializing in support/mages for nearly a decade with a few years of tank/peeler experience in pvp. This is what I excel at and what I'm most comfortable with. Being a squishy melee character has n't appealed to me (other than a balanced double assassin comp. I used in HA for gw1 occasionally).
However, being bored and perusing over the various skills of the different classes on wiki I can't help but to find myself excited for the thief. This is the only class that I look at the abilities, and see tons of opportunity for amazing combos with proper skill choices and weapon swapping. Their skills look so cohesive that I am for the first time in over a decade seriously considering choosing an assassin type as my main.
Just a example would be if you were to use dag+pistol/dag+dag:
not only can you have a 3rd evade essentially I could see someone doing
stealth-->backstab-->cloak and dagger-->backstab-->withdraw-->shadowshot-->and proceed to do whatever. This is all just theorycraft but there are so many other great combinations and skills with the other weapons and this small example doesn't even cover the elites or utility spells.
What are your thoughts?

I'm in the exact same boat. I love rangers in MMOs usually, as long as the mechanics are right, but the thief class in GW2 is looking very interesting. I may also be breaking away from my norm. I know I'll definately have one though even if I go ranger as my main. I've never ever played a assassin/thief class properly before... ever.
Hopefully this gives you an example what its like when a thief meets a warrior
Incredibly bad warrior vs a thief with pretty decent play.
I'm pretty interested as well.
Ah I remember that video, but thanks for posting it. It'll be really interesting when the game is closer to launch and we're able to see the real dynamics of each class in the hands of skilled players.
I'm making a Charr thief day 1. Can't wait! Going to try sword and pistol combo.
Grim Dawn, the next great action rpg!

Yeah, I've been theorycrafting the Thief ever since we learnt a bunch of it's Traits.
Like if I feel like going 2xDagger & Sword/Pistol, I will go: 30 Shadow Arts / 20 Deadly Arts / 20 Critical Strikes.
And When I go pure range with 2xPistol & Shortbow, I will go: 30 Critical Strikes / 20 Trickery / 10 Deadly Arts / 10 Acrobatics.
Man I love theorycrafting. Only reason why I played Rift as long as I did.
The thing I'm most concerned about with my favorite combos is constantly being depleted of resources and by the way things look , unless you have a ranged weapon in your main hand to switch to you become too susceptible to dying without being able to put out much dps. I could be wrong because I do see skills to help combat those "breather" moments but I'll just have to wait and see.
