In case you don't know what Darkfall is (you most likely don't lol), it's an mmo with full loot, open world FFA PVP, with FPS combat where you have to aim everything manually. It also has player-built and player-run cities, and guilds can siege one another and declare war on each other, and that has made for some intense politics on the server, which is amazing.
Anyway, assuming I can ignore some of the character graphics (for example those little bunny girls with big booty and half naked that look like they were stolen from Pedophile Online MMO), is there anything that this game can offer to a player like me? I don't care how great the game looks, I don't care about quests, raids, dungeons, PVE in general, crafting etc (I do enjoy all of these things in small doses, but it's not something that would make or break the game for me).
What I do care about is PVP, guild vs guild mechanics, server politics, RISK and consequences for losing, overall character specialization, progression, and uniquness. Rift for example failed in every aspect (aside from maybe character uniqueness/specialization), there was no server politics...becaus most PVP was in mini-games vs people from another server, there was no guild conflicts as there was no system to support it, there was no risk of any kind, in fact you still get a cooking for participating in PVP even if you just join a minigame and stand there, etc.
From what I understand this game has some sort of semi-manual aiming, which is the reason I decided to look into it, but that alone, while a great feature, would not be enough to keep me around unless some of those other aspects I mentioned above are within the game. So should I just go back and wait for Darkfall 2.0 or is there a chance that this game has some of the things I'm looking for (if not all).
Thanks

Well first of all if your looking for full loot game well sorry this and just about every other game made will not have it. Back than it was most hardcore gamer so game design for them. However now mmorpg has to appeal to the more general public thus full loot will not be in most game unless equips in game means nothing. Tera doesn't have full loot sorry.
So if your ok with no full loot i'll explain Tera to the extent of my knowledge
1. It is FFA open world pvp, as of now EME has not stated there will be any punishment put in for pking player which is good. How this works is basically you get a skill at lvl 11, when used you go in to outlaw status for 60s, during that time you can attack anyone and the status stay as long as your in combat. Be out of combat for 60s and it goes away. Ofc you can always just reactivate it.
2. No faction so its all about GvG. Guild can pay money to declare war on other guild, in korea its 4hrs for GvG and 6hrs for a 3way guild war. However i think the NA verison is 24hr? Need to check that. And only PvP server have guild war but doubt that matter since you obviously be on PvP server.
3. Politics wise there are 2 way to gain control of a country or area. From what i heard its each country is either you fight in arena for control or you gain votes from player for control. So country A you compete in arena with other guild and the top guild get control and country B you have to gain votes from player to gain control. To stay in power and do anything you must have policy points which can be gain from player, what i heard is when player enter/leave your area they area ask if they endorse the vanarch and if they do you get policy points. The second method is to do vanarch quest which is a very hard quest that require you to kill an powerfull and you get tons of policy points for completing it.
4.uniqueness/specialization, not sure what you mean but if your talking about class each has their own roll and is pretty good at what they do. And combat is not semi aiming its full manual aim. you aim all your attack if your not facing the right way you miss. There are certain lock on skill but that require you to first paint them (which mean target them and the skill paint them green to confrim lock on) but there only a few and some are heals.
5.Risk goes i think if you die while in outlaw state its same as dying to a monster and you loss cryatals, crystal are basically thing that you put in to your weapon/armor that give you effect to customize your character more. Whats good is you can take them on and off as you wish so when you get a new weapon you can just take the crystal off your old and put it on the new. However whenever you die you have ch ance of lossing one at random, and from what people tell me you almost always loss one.
6.Server Vs Server pvp is going ot be added in soon i hope.
Hope that answer it if i missed anything just tell me.
Based on what you said I don't think you'll enjoy it that much. This game has some fun PvP and manual aim, the combat is much more skill based than other themepark MMOs...but it's nothing like DF in terms of risk/reward, sandbox features, or twitch aiming skills (hitboxes are HUGE). Also from the sound of it you have zero intersest in PvE and you will need to do that in order to level...not to mention this is primarly a PvE game so most of the content will be certered around that.
That being said at least check out the open beta, who knows you may like the combat so much you'll enjoy the PvE and want to buy it.
This game being primarily PvE doesn't hold true imo, from level 11 you have full Open World PK, deathmatches of up to 10v10 you can schedule and wager on and guild vs guild wars.
At endgame you can become good at battlegrounds to gain control of territories with your guild. Not to mention future plans for development will be for server vs server PvP content.
This game is just as much as a PvE game as it is PvP.
I like the game a lot, I bought it and plan to sub and I'm primarly a PvPer...but your kidding yourself if you actually believe the PvP and PvE content are equal.
Everything you listed is standard in MMO's nowdays (except the town control through PvP and GvG wagers). This game at it's current state is primarly a PvE game with all the normal PvP options thown in (Open world on PvP servers, Duels, Battlegrounds ect).
That being said I still thought the PvP was done better than a majority of MMO's and I had a blast with it. I'm just being honest with the OP as it's clear he is looking for more impactful risk/reward PvP instead of a "themepark PvP server" PvP.
I don't know about any MMOs where you can schedule a group duel with up to 20 people from level 11 onward and wager on it.
Is a good balance between PvP and PvE
I doubt any game will be made purely based of pvp any more because the niche is simply too small to make up for the amount of money it takes to make these games.
I agree with you point about games being to niche if they are just PvP focuesd.
If the OP was comming from WoW, Rift, LotRO, etc and comparing TERA's PvE/PvP balance to one those then I'd definitely say it's much more balanced, but since he's comming from DF and debaiting between this and DF2.0 then it's not going to be close to the ammount of PvP content he wants in a game...that make sense?
Like I said he should still check out the open beta but I wouldn't recommended that he buy the game without trying it first.
you can basically throw down 5 dollar to pre-order it at a store, get the beta key than cancel the pre-order and keep the beta key. Also always Beta key give away event before beta. I'll try to post them as soon as i see them like i did for CBT2.
Thanks for the replies guys. After reading around a bit more, the political system is what I find really interesting. I don't mind PVEing, heck in Darkfall you have to do A LOT of PVE in order to get what you need for PVP, so I'll welcome any PVE to advance myself in PVP. What I don't particularly care about is doing dugeons/raids to grind gear, raid after raid, piece after piece, I detest that. I don't enjoy that in games, but I don't mind doing it if it gets me further in PVP, but honstly I hope I don't ever have to do a single raid to get gear to be competative in PVP, it will get old fast.
The loss of crystals is nice, I hope chances are increased when you die in PVP as opposed to PVE. This game seems to have a basic framework already in place to support guild vs guild rivalries, and that's really what makes the end game for me. Add territory control on top of that and you got yourself a decent engame content for PVPers. Mix in some politics and epeen meters (I don't know what they have in Tera, perhaps Kill:Death ratio, win:loss counter in guild vs guild, etc), and PVP can have some purpose and incentive to do it.
I will definitely check it out, especially if there is open beta. I think it will still come down to how balanced and engaging combat itself is. I just hope it's not CC-fest, it's almost impossible to balance when there is so much CC, like in Rift.

Not a CC fest but PvP is really different inTera lets put it at that lol. Grinding gear isn't that bad because hard mode dungeons at end game are pretty challenging, i mean people who run it all the time still wipes on these runs. And crystal get really expansive end game so lossing them is bad XD
But yes the no faction thing does make pvp guild driven and lot more interesting. There will be open beta in april but different site hand out CBT beta keys before the CBT. IGN handed out keys for CBT1 before it happened and Zam just handed out CBT2 key yesterday. I'll post whenever these free key goes up on this forum so hopefully you can nab a key and join us in CBT3 in 2 weeks =D
I can sure account for the crystals breaking, man it seems at endgame they always break if you do PVP, endgame dungeons..lol
Nothing is worse when you get that super rare crystal that you use only to see it break when you die..lol
As for endgame dungeons, if you don't have the skill/gear your gonna wipe. Here is a video of a guild mate of mine getting one shotted by Kesla on easy mode..lol, (He had T9 as well).

As for Guild vs Guild, it defiantly becomes more interesting. Especially guild fighting over Bams..lol
Here is one guild war that went on and on...

You get this allot, plus don't forget the political system !
Well, the guild master dying worths 10 points in a guild war, as opposed to 1 point for the rest of the members.
Poor guild masters, hehe.
It's 20 points on guild leaders on K-TERA, I don't know about NA. Man if there is a bad guild leader on a PVP server, he could get up to 3 guilds coming for his head...lol
that will def be fun though!
Why would I care about these 'points'? What significance do they hold and how are they used?

Well, it's basically headhunting. When you reach a preset number of heads, your guild is declared winner of that particular guild war.
Do you get anything for winning the war? Is there an in-game scoresheet to show your wins/losses against other guilds?
Is it possible to be in war with somebody permanently, if both guilds agree to it?
Furthermore, if somebody wants to declare a war on my guild, what are they options in terms of length of the war? How much money does it cost (I'm not asking exact amount because I don't know how much is gold worth in the game)... like is it too cheap, or too expensive, so so, not too cheap not too expensive?
And finally, can my guild choose to 'decline' a war declaration from another guild? If so, what would it cost my guild to 'decline' that war, and does the challenger guild get anything if I decline? How long does my guild have to respond to a war challenge? What happens If I don't respond in time?
Thanks.

Guild war are annouced server wide, when 1 guild declear war on other everyone see it and everyone see the result as well. There is a list that tracks guild war record. As of now guild war is for fun only. You can war up to 3 guild at once and its 24hr or 2000 points first. However 1 kill is only 1 point beside guild leader which is 10 points. You can decline war but it cost money and it counts as a lost. They nerf the cost to 30k to declear war and 3k to reject for cbt. From what i hear in korea it 3million to declear war but no idea how much withdraw. Once some one declear war it starts in 10s, you can't reject unless you pay to withdraw.
Thanks a lot. Sound great. I got EU Beta key now, I'm gonna be jumping in to test it this weekend. I'm fairly excited actually, never thought I would be excited about any MMO ever again.
