What do Turbine coins cost normally? I just don't see why I should buy a box at gamestop for digital items. Seems like a waste of gas to me.

I think it's designed for the non-core F2P audience, the people browsing the shelf in the store for something to buy. It's not a fully optimized deal, but it has a good selection of early quest zones and 2000 TP is about $24 I think? Plus you can install from a DVD instead of downloading the whole thing. Should you buy the box if you already play LOTRO? Probably not. But if you do most of your shopping at GameStop, it's an easy way to get started.
This was announced awhile ago. And if you preordered you got 500 more TP.
Meh.
If Turbine would release some decent content rather than half asses ex packs, and spending the majority of their time trying to figure out how to get people to spend more money in their cash shop, this lifetime founding member would consider coming back.
Unfortunately, the above is all they've done since SoM released so I doubt I'll be back anytime soon.
Einherjar_LC says: WTB the true successor to UO or Asheron's Call pst!
This is a great deal for F2P and Premium players. I did the math and it works out to about a $80 (US) value for $29.99, so it's a $50 savings plus you get the mount for every character on the account.
